The exhausted teenager slides off the bed to the annoying doorbell constantly ringing, forcing an annoyed groan out of his lips because his parents are currently out for their cute dinner date so obviously they couldn't get it. There's no doubt that it's Lisa. That girl has been out until past midnight many times, sometimes even knocking at Jeongguk's window to let herself in around three in the morning.

Of course Jeongguk is no snitch, he backs his sister up when his parents asks where she is most of the time.

But this girl really needs to learn to take her damn key with her.

"I'M COMING DAMN!" Jeongguk snarls bitterly as he walks down the stairs, "You seriously need to start taking your key-"

....

What the fuck?

Did she evaporate?!

Jeongguk's eyebrows furrowed when he opens the door, not seeing anyone in sight outside the warm September night. There's no doubt that this could be some sort of sick prank from the neighborhood kids, which only raised much more of Jeongguk's anger that he had to get up from his comfortable bed for this, forcing him to roll his eyes with a string of curse words before closing-

"Kookie?"

The soft and quiet voice grabs Jeongguk's attention back once again, looking around slowly but then to slowly look down, nearly jolting on the spot in shock from seeing two familiar twins standing there staring back at him.

Chungha and Yeosang....

Wait what are they doing here?

Wait.... Is...

Jeongguk instantly looks around, searching for the familiar girl with the cute smile if she's anywhere in sight since it's obvious that the kids didn't get here on their own.

But she's not... Here.

Confusion flooded Jeongguk's mind but a small tug on his shirt adverts his attention back to the pouty boy staring back up at him, "Protect us?"

The sudden statement caught him off guard but Jeongguk clearly didn't want to make it too obvious that their presence here is a little.... Unexpected to him. Who knows what happened or how they're feeling right now, so he has to be calm with how he approaches this. So he changes his attitude after settling his thoughts and shifts a smile, crouching down to their height before looking at both of their tiny faces.

"Hey... What are you guys doing here? Where's your mommy?"

Chungha's tiny face falls more sullen, sniffing a little with a shrug, clutching tightly to the blue straps of her my little pony backpack, "I-I don' now.... Mommy said you take care of us."

Excuse me?

Did she go on vacation? Family problems or something?

Well shit isn't that a little bit too much of a responsibility to give to a fifteen year old, who can barely take care of himself? Besides they've only been talking for like two months and it wasn't anything serious.

Shit, what if she doesn't come back to get them?!

Okay okay, not the time to panic, maybe it's to stay for a little while but she'll be definitely be back.

It's her kids after all.

So with that little reassurance, Jeongguk only ruffles Yeosang's chocolate brown hair and stands back up straight, "Come in. I got some ice cream and endless shows you can watch until your mommy comes back."

The bright smile that flashes Yeosang's their lips was enough for Jeongguk to feel this warmth in his heart to the fact that he made the small child happy, who quickly runs inside with his tiny legs and clutching to his own paw patrol backpack.

Meanwhile Chungha was a little hesitant, eyes seeming a little loss of it's own spark as she looks shyly to the ground.

Hm....

Jeongguk tilts his head to the side with his own frown, "What's the matter? You know I wouldn't hurt you."

Chungha's fragile gaze looks up at him, taking a step forward with a deep frown, "P-Protect us..... Are you going to... Protect us?"

The sudden question weighed a heavy tug in Jeongguk's heart seeing how pleading her gaze is staring into his, clearly unsure if she's ever going to see her mommy again and doesn't know what to even feel.

Jeongguk is the only person she trusts  right now.

And Jeongguk is very much aware of that, so that's why extends a hand out to her with his welcoming smile, "I'll always protect you and your brother.... I promise."

For a moment the little girl on stares at his hand, twitching a small smile before taking it and letting the teenage boy guide her inside his home.

At the moment was when a flickering source of need to protect them blossomed in Jeongguk's greater conscious, now that their mom isn't around at the moment. He's definitely going to have to contact her since she should give him some sort of explanation for this.

If only he knew that from that day on his whole life was never going to be the same again.

And he was never going to see the mother of those two small angels again.
