Squirrels are everywhere in the park. That's the great thing about being a squirrel. Steal something then you can just disappear into a tree and that person is left scratching their head trying to figure out which squirrel took their stuff. First thing first, you're going to want to select a target. They should be alone or there can be two of them. Generally, if there are more than three things gets a bit tricky. If there are more than three, it's helpful to call in another squirrel or two to get the job done. But it's easier if you can get a person by themselves. Once a victim has been selected, you pick what to take. With ladies, they usually have fancy bracelets or earrings. Earrings are harder to get and usually, you can only grab one before they start screaming. Bracelets or anything that they set down is easiest to grab. With the gentleman usually, the easiest thing to grab from them is their pocket watches or their handkerchiefs. The men usually don't wear too many shiny things, which is a shame when you're looking for shiny things. Once the items is selected, you have to grab it. Waiting for a distraction is always a good idea. More often than not people are too busy reading their papers or talking to their friends to notice a squirrel scurrying up to them. Grab the item and then run like hell before they can grab you. Up a tree is usually your best bet. Luckily, humans can't climb very well.

Gregory scampered along the branches. He had lost the heavy gold object, but the gold chain was still his. That would please the Queen. She liked shiny objects. The squirrel who brought back the shiniest object got that pleased the Queen the most, got the best acorn from the harvest. Gregory was determined to not get the small crappy ones this year. He jumped from branch to branch until he reached the largest oak in the center of the park. Landing on the branches, he slowed to a walk.

The Queen was seated in the heart of the tree. Surrounding her was a vast pile of various trinkets and shiny objects that other squirrels had brought back for her. Her favorite item was a small gold ring with a large white stone. The ring was small enough to have fit on slender fingers, but the Queen choose to wear it as her crown. Gregory paused at the edge of the ring she sat in, waiting for her to notice him. She waved him forward and he presented the gold chain with as much dignity as he could muster. The sun shone off the items, nearly blinding Gregory as he handed the Queen the chain. She examined the item, turning it over in her small paws. After a moment's review, she placed the chain on the ground and handed Gregory a large fat acorn that shone nearly as brightly as the chain he had given her for it.

I can feel the coldness seeping through the park. The first breath of winter is frosting the leaves and trees with intricate white designs. The younger squirrels who have not seen winter are all in a flutter. Dividing their time between collecting nuts and chasing the first snowflakes that have just a started to fall. The excitement reminds me of my youth when I used to run all over the park. I had loved shiny things in those days. Eventually, I had built up quite the reputation as an excellent thief. Some of the items I still have. My favorite is a gold chain. There used to be a pocket watch, but I lost that in the escape. Some silly man had set it down on the bench next to him and I had seized the opportunity to make off with it. He had chased me, but of course, I got away. My greatest regret was losing that pocket watch. It would have looked so pretty among my collection of stolen items.
