paint my spirit gold
ONE MONTH LATER and it was early in the morning and the wedding was tomorrow. Madelyn and Alice was trying their best with getting Bella ready for the big day, but she was being stubborn with walking in heels.
Their day was going to be eventful, seeing as once Bella is done trying to break the heels in, Maddie was going to take her out for a spa day. Bella is going to get highlights, her eyebrows waxed, a mani/pedi, a massage, and a facial.
Bella shot both Maddie and Alice a look as she stumbled in the heels. Sure, she has wore some heels before, but they were usually thick and not this high.
"You just have to break them in," Alice tried, biting her lip.
"I've been breaking them in. For three days." Bella was more than annoyed, "can I just go barefoot?"
"Absolutely not." Alice shook her head.
"I'm just thinking it's a little much, you know? The dress, the shoes, and all of this," Bella looked over to the venue.
The altar was beautifully decorated; small white flowers were twisted in between the pieces of wood. The same white flowers hung from the tree branches, dangling down in long strands.
"It's exactly enough," Alice disagreed, "tomorrow will be perfect."
"Where do you want this boss?" Emmett walked by the balcony, carrying a large log.
"On either side of the aisle," Alice instructed.
"What aisle?" Rosalie followed behind Emmett.
"Does no one have vision?" Alice snapped, causing Bella to jump. She walked away from the two girls, showing the vampires where to put the seats.
"She gets on my nerves, still," Maddie said after a second of silence. It took weeks for Maddie to be able to be in the same room with the Cullen's alone and not almost kill one of them. And the past month has been spent spending time with the pack, her family, and helping plan Bella's wedding. The redhead clapped her hands and fully turned to face her sister. "You ready for your spa day?"
Bella sighed. "As ready as ever."
THEY HAD SPENT the rest of the day getting relaxed for the wedding, and once they got home, Maddie gave Bella some herbs to help her sleep. And once the brunette went to sleep, the redhead went to her room and texted Dean and Sam to remind them that they need to arrive early morning.
Once she received a message saying that they were already on their way, she smiles and tossed her phone on her bed.
She placed her hands on her hips and stared at herself in her floorlength mirror, taking in hear appearance.
For the first time in forever, she looks healthy. There is no bags under her eyes, her hair was shiny and silky, her eyes had a sparkle in them that hasn't been there in years. Her dimples are more prominent due to her how much she has been smiling lately.
Things are looking up.
Smiling, Maddie turned to face her bed, her dark eyes focusing on her phone that seemed to be taunting her. She rolled her eyes and grabbed it. Biting her lip, she dialed a number and then held the phone to her ear, waiting.
"Maddie, are you okay? Why are you calling?"
The redhead sat down on her bed, her lips turning up in a smile at the voice. "I just... I don't know." She slapped herself on the forehead, shaking her head. God, Im so stupid. "I wanted to check in and, um, make sure that—"
"Don't worry. I'll be there tomorrow," he said with a small chuckle. "I'm your date, after all."
She smiled, picking at her blanket as she absently nodded at his words. "I didn't doubt you for a second, Lahote."
He smiled, rolling over in his bed. "Sure you didn't, Swan. But it's alright, I forgive you."
Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, she laid back on her bed, still smiling. "What are you wearing right now?"
Paul laughed loudly, his whole body shaking. His eyes twinkled and his smile widened when he heard her cute little giggles. "I'll tell you if you tell me first."
She snorted, beginning to twirl her hair. "That would ruin the fun. The mystery is what makes it fun."
He grinned. "You're just a bunch of mysteries, Madelyn. And that's what I like about you."
She rolled onto her side, chewing on the inside of her cheek. They haven't talked about the imprint since the day on the beach which was pretty much considered a 'date'. They all have been too busy planning the wedding and trying to get back to normal after the newborn fight.
"Are you okay?" Paul asked, hesitation heard in his voice.
Maddie sighed and sat up, running a hand down her face. "I don't know. This whole... wedding thing is crazy. Edward is Bella's first boyfriend, first everything, and I feel like she is lucky to be marrying her first love, you know? But—"
"— she hasn't had time to find herself and be peaceful," Paul finished for her, nodding, sitting up, back to the headboard.
"Am I terrible that I don't want her to marry that pansy?" The redhead asked, genuinely.
"No. Not at all. You just want her to be happy, and you're worried that he'll just leave her again. And that's valid."
She groaned into her hand. "I hate being so protective of my loved ones sometimes."
"That's just your love language. It's real sweet, to be honest." He smiled at the thought of how amazing his imprint is.
"Thank you, Paul." She smiled and then looked at the clock, pursing her lips. "I should go to bed; gotta wake up early in the morning."
"I'll see you there, Mads." He wanted to say something else, but held his tongue. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight."
She hung up and laid down on her back with a sigh.
BELLA HAD WALKED into Alice's room looking refreshed and more alive than she ever looked before, but she was still having wedding jitters.
"Here." Maddie walked into the room, handing her a iced vanilla latte, and saved one for herself.
Rosalie scrunched her nose up at the smell of the coffee's, but continued messing with Bella's newly done hair.
Bella had hair extensions in, making her hair go all the way down to her butt, and her hair was pretty much ombré now, just a little darker.
Maddie was already wearing her dress, and it was long, lavender, and there was a slit on the right side of it, and she was wearing silver high heels which had a snake going around her ankle. Her makeup was light and simple, and she smiled in satisfaction.
Purple wasn't really a color she wears often, it sometimes clashes with her hair, but seeing as it's Bella's big day, she went along with it.
Brushing her hair down her shoulder, she turned around when a knock sounded from the door.
"Hello, girls," Renee's voice sounded before she peaked in with a wide smile. Once her eyes landed on Bella and Maddie, she gasped and covered her mouth. "Oh, my gosh!" Renee covered her mouth. "You're both so beautiful!" She sniffed, reaching up to dab at her eyes. "Crap my mascara!"
Alice grabbed a tissue, and handed it to Bella's mother.
Maddie smiled tightly and nodded. Renee has been in Forks for a week now, and she has tried to get to know Maddie more and apologize. But, the redhead is still hurt by her past doings, and it'll take longer than a few days to get over that.
Maddie smiled as she heard Charlie outside the door, and she shouted. "Come in, dad!"
The door moved open, and Charlie poked his head in. "You sure? I don't wanna..." Bella covered her mouth, giggling at how her father was dressed. "I know. I look hot." Charlie reached into his pocket, and pulled out a box and presented it to Bella. She looked at it confused, before taking it slowly.
"We thought you needed something blue," Renee explained with a small smile.
"And old — other than your mother," Charlie added, and Renee slapped him with a scoff. Bella opened the box, and smiled. Maddie peaked over her shoulder and smiled in awe at it. It was a beautiful hair piece. "It was Grandma Swan's."
"But we added the sapphires," Renee pointed towards them.
"It's beautiful. Thank you guys." Bella handed it to Maddie who gently added it to her hair.
"It's your first family heirloom," Renee stayed before clearing her throat. "Pass it on to your daughter, and her daughter." She looked over at Maddie who smiled at Bella. "We'll give you one once you get married, too. Maybe it'll be with that hunk out... what's his name? Paul."
The redhead choked on her spit and shook her head. "We aren't even dating!"
Charlie rose a brow and shared a look with Bella. He knows his younger daughter has a thing with the Lahote boy, and he knows the boy is deeply in love with her.
"Mum, I love it," Bella murmured before moving in for a hug, but Alice quickly stepped in between them.
"No smudging my masterpiece," she teased.
"Ah, right," Renee grabbed Bella's hand instead. "Can I see the wedding dress?"
Bella grinned and reached over, gripping Maddie's hand. "You ready for the next step into our lives?"
Maddie smiled and nodded. "Lets get the show on the road."
EVERYONE TOOK THEIR places, and seeing as Maddie was Bella's only brides maid, she was all alone up there, but she didn't care, she was excited and happy for her best friend. She looked out to the right, and saw the Cullen's and Renee sitting out in the front. In the other isle was the pack, Paul sitting out front with a grin on his lips as they made eye contact.
Music began playing, and Maddie stood straighter with a wide smile on her face as everyone else stood up. The hunters eyes widened at the sight of Bella who looked radiant.
Yes, she had seen Bella in the dress before, she helped pick it out, but this was different. This was her wedding day.
The white lace dress looked stunning on Bella, and hugged her everywhere. Her breasts were more prominent, showing some cleavage, and it showed off her hour glass figure which made some people gasp in shock.
Bella caught Maddie's eyes before going straight to Edward, and her brown eyes never once left his golden ones.
Maddie smiled softly at Charlie as he gave away his daughter before sitting down. Her brown eyes found Paul's in the crowd and she sucked in a breath as she saw him already gazing at her with something different in his eyes.
The priest instructed everyone to sit, and he opened the Bible. "Ladies and gentlemen," he started, "we are gathered here on this glorious day to witness the union of Edward Cullen, and Bella Swan. Repeat after me."
"I, Edward Cullen, take you Bella Swan to have and to hold," Edward said, "for better or for worse..."
Maddie watched the couple as they repeated their vows, happy that her sister has found love, even if she — herself — couldn't care less about Edward.
Paul wasn't even paying attention to the wedding, no, he was paying attention to his imprint who he has fallen deeply for.
Edward pulled Bella into a kiss, and the wedding guests began to clap loudly, which pulled Paul out of his daydream.
Maddie rushed towards Bella, not caring about Edward as she pushed him aside, and pulled her sister into a tight hug. Bella laughed loudly and hugged her sister back.
THE WEDDING FLOWED into the reception party smoothly — proof of Alice's and Maddie's flawless planning, which is funny because for a whole two weeks they couldn't agree on anything.
It was just twilight over the river; the ceremony had lasted exactly the right amount of time, allowing the sun to set behind the trees.
The lights in the trees glimmered as Paul led Madelyn through the glass doors, making the white flowers glow. There were another hundreds of those white flowers throughout the area, serving as an aesthetic.
Things slowed down, relaxed as the evening surrounded them. The little crowd spread out under the soft shine of the twinkle lights, and Maddie was quick to be embraced by arms.
"Hey, Seth." She smiled at the sixteen year old boy, wrapped her arms around him in a comforting embrace.
"Hey, Made." He pulled back and looked at Paul with a smile. "I'm watching you, Lahote. Keep your hands north of the equator."
The redhead snickered, wrapping her arms around Paul's left one.
Paul rolled his eyes. "I'm the mature one here, pup. I know how to respect a lady."
"Good answer," Bella stated as she walked up to them, a fond smile on her lips. "She's my best friend and sister, if you so much as make her cry, I will kill you."
"I'm gonna go get some cake," Seth called out as he was basically sprinting towards the cake.
That was when Billy, Charlie and Sue came up to them. "I hope you'll be very happy, Bella," Billy said with a warm smile.
"Thank you, Billy," Bella said gratefully as Edward came up and wrapped an arm around her waist. "Have you heard from him yet?"
Jacob was the only person not at the wedding ever since Bella sent him an invite to her own wedding. Which was stupid in Maddie's opinion. After the boy had the audacity to kiss Bella without her consent, their friendship has been rocky.
"I'm sure Jake wishes you the best," Billy responded and Bella nodded.
"Well, I plan on getting drunk," Charlie spoke, earning laughs from everyone. "They're serving up some pretty fancy champagne. Sue, can I get you a glass?"
Before Sue could reply, Billy quickly turned his wheelchair to Charlie. "Sparkling fire water? Sounds great," he said before they all left.
Maddie let out a loud laugh and smiled at Charlie and Sue who happened to have gotten along pretty well. They would be cute together — she thought.
"Congratulations," a woman said, a man at her side.
"Bella, Maddelyn, Paul, this is Eleazar and Carmen," Edward introduced the two vampires who looked the sisters up and down with smiles. "And these are our cousins from Alaska." They turned to look at the two blondes who were slightly off to the side. "Tanya and Kate."
"We've heard so much about you," Kate said with a warm smile.
"Welcome to the family," Eleazar greeted Bella who smiled and linked her arm with Edward's. "You are very radiant."
Bella's smile widened even more. "Thank you."
Carmen turned around to look at another blonde haired vampire behind her. "Irina," she called out, getting the vampires attention. "Come meet Madelyn and Bella."
Irina hesitated before walking up to Carmen. "I can't do this."
"You promised," Tanya said sternly.
"They invited them," Irina growled, looking from Paul to across the room.
Maddie followed her gaze and noticed that she was staring at Seth. "Do you have a problem with my date and sixteen year old best friend?" She asked harshly and narrowed her brown eyes at the vampire.
"They killed Laurent!" She snapped and Maddie frowned, remembering the vampire who's broke her arm and tried to kill both her and Bella.
"He tried to kill Maddie and Bella," Paul responded which made the cold ones turn to him with narrowed eyes. "He broke my— he broke Maddie's arm."
"I don't believe that," Irina stated, stepping in front of Paul. "He wanted to be like us, to live in peace with humans, with me."
"I'm sorry," Edward apologized before Irina turned and walked away from them.
"We're sorry about her," Eleazar apologized before he and the rest of his family walked away from them.
Paul still has his eyes narrowed before he turned to Maddie, trying to lighten the mood, "Well, what's a wedding without some family drama?"
Maddie shrugged. "Wouldn't know. This is the first wedding i've ever been to." She smiled at Bella. "Thank you so much for this experience." She then sent the brunette a wink before walking up on the stage.
"Oh, no," Bella grumbled, already knowing Maddie might say something embarrassing.
"Hi, excuse me." Everyone turned towards the small stage as Maddie stood in front of the microphone. "I didn't come up here prepared, but... I love Bella with my whole heart." Her brown eyes met Bella's. "Sister hood is, perhaps, one of my most favorite things right now. We have argued a lot, but we always get by it, and we're there for one another no matter the cost. Family is everything to me, and to be Bella's sister, it's truly amazing. And even though I disappeared for years, we still got back into rhythm like I never left."
She smiled and tears began to shine in her eyes. "Bella is such a wonderful person. She is caring, understanding and extremely loving. She goes above and beyond for those she cares about and so, it's absolutely heartwarming to see that she found someone who will do the same for her." She then rolled her eyes as she said, "even if it's with a disco ball." Everyone chuckled, the humans not understanding the joke, but the vampires and wolves did which made it even funnier. "We have both found our future, and I am so glad to be going into this new part in our life."
Paul smiled at her as she walked off the stage, and Seth nudged him with a smirk, a bit of cake falling from his mouth.
Bella clapped loudly, tears stinging her eyes as she pulled the redhead into a long and tight hug. "I love you so much."
"I love you too, Hells Bells." Maddie kissed her forehead and then giggled once she saw Charlie walk up on stage. "Uh oh."
Charlie winked at both of his daughters before speaking, "Edward will be a good husband. I know this because I'm a cop. I know things... like how to hunt somebody to the ends of the earth and I know how to use a gun."
"Go to sleep, my love. Go to sleep, when you wake up... you'll see me." Renee sung into the microphone which caused both Bella and Maddie to laugh. Renee might be a terrible mother, but she had her moments — Maddie guessed. Things are slightly better than between them, but the redhead will never see her as a mother.
Emmett walked up on the stage, doing a weird dance thing which made Maddie snort un-ladylike. He tapped the microphone and cleared his throat. "Excuse me? Is this thing on? Hello." Bella wolf-whistled, and Emmett grinned. "I would like to propose a toast to my new sister. Bella, I hope you've gotten enough sleep these past eighteen years, 'cause you won't be getting anymore for a while."
Bella was nudged by Maddie which made her chuckle. It could be taken either way — sex or because cold ones can't sleep. It made the situation even funnier.
Edward made his way up on the stage and stood in front of the microphone, staring straight at his new wife. "It's an extraordinary thing to meet someone who you can bare your soul to, and who will accept you for who you are.
Paul turned his head to stare at Maddie with love in his eyes. Edward continued, "No measure of time will ever be long enough. But let's start with forever."
Everyone clapped and Maddie turned around to face Paul, her eyes softening once she made eye contact with the wolf. Her heart beat picked up it's speed, her cheeks turning a rosy shade. She wrapped her arms around one of his, leaning her head on his shoulder.
Paul grinned and swiftly pulled her onto the dance floor once slow music began to play.
Maddie laughed lightly as she moved his hands to her waist. "You don't know how to dance, do you?" Paul grinned, about to play it off, but ended up stepping on her feet which made her laugh loudly. "Just sway to the music," she instructed. "Follow my lead."
"I'll follow you anywhere," he stated before dipping her, and slowing bringing her up. "I might not know how to dance, but I do have some moves."
Maddie smirked and looked up into his eyes, chest heaving up and down form the sudden move. She swallowed thickly, staring into his chocolate eyes, feeling at home in his embrace.
They then slow danced together the rest of the time, just enjoying this moment in front of almost everyone they cared about.
AFTER BELLA AND EDWARD left to go on their honeymoon, Maddie said goodbye to everyone and made her way home to call the Winchesters, and updated them on how everything went.
That's also when she decided to take a break from Forks for a little, informing them that she'll be joining their tag-team soon.
She went to bed, feeling like she is finally at a place in her life where everything feels good.
No one knew what was about to go down in just a few weeks.
