By My Side
~ A Year and a Half Later ~
"Hah! Look at this, you damn extras!! I scored one hundred percent on the first exam of third year. What did you morons do, today?" Bakugou smirked at Todoroki and I, as we walked towards the direction of the dorm rooms.
We had just finished a long week of work studies, and were currently back at UA, itching to get out of our sweaty hero costumes.
I quickly pulled out my phone, wanting to check my grade as well.
Aizawa made a deal with me, a while back. He said, if I picked up some slack with the chores, he'd give me the money to get a phone. You can bet I didn't say no to that.
"Oh really, Bakugou? I also scored a hundred. But, Mr. Aizawa actually gave me two points of extra credit for the last question. So, I really scored a one hundred-two percent. It looks like we are pretty alike." Todoroki said softly, completely oblivious to Bakugou's angry shakes.
I couldn't help but crack up at the sound of Bakugou's grunts, as I loosened the black, tactical oxygen mask that accompanies my hero costume.
"Ahh, that's better. I scored a ninety-nine percent. But, I'm sure I could go back to Aizawa and ask him to give me a point of extra credit, so we can be twinsies." I retorted at Bakugou, grinning as I noticed his angry shakes getting worse.
"J-JUST SHUT UP!! BOTH OF YOU!! I DON'T WANNA HEAR IT!" He yelled, slightly sulking now.
"Margo!!" Mina called from behind me, before practically knocking me over as she jumped onto my back.
"Mina!" I called back, trying to match her tone.
"I can't believe how cool you were out there today! We saw you all over the news!!" Mina exclaimed, ruffling the top of my head.
I noticed the other UA girls had come up behind her.
"Yeah, Margo! Seriously, it's all anyone's talking about." Ochako chimed in, causing Bakugou to quake in anger.
I chuckled nervously, feeling a little embarrassed.
Mina quickly hopped off my back, giving me some air.
"Oh, thanks guys! Yeah, I was definitely a little nervous. I'm just really glad everyone ended up being okay—"
"THERE SHE IS!!" I heard someone call out from down the hallway.
I laughed at the voice, already knowing who it was.
"Eijirou, don't make it a big deal—" I started protesting, before I felt him take me in his arms and spin me around.
"OI, GO TAKE THAT LOVE SHIT SOMEWHERE ELSE! IT'S MAKING ME FUCKING SICK!" Bakugou screamed from next to us.
Eijirou laughed, still holding me in his arms, as he turned to Bakugou.
"Oh come on, man! You'd be over the moon too, if your girlfriend saved a building full of people from a mass terrorist attack!!" Eijirou exclaimed, before turning back to look at me.
"Hah, as if Bakugou could get anyone weak at the knees with that glare." Kaminari laughed, as he and Sero walked over now.
"I saw the whole thing, live, from the city my work study was taking place. Damn, you scaled that building so fast, babe! You and Mr. Aizawa did that entire rescue by yourselves! You'd debilitate one of the bad guys, just long enough for Eraserhead to grab them with his scarf. Then, when there were too many bad guys in one spot, you and Eraserhead would take them straight on, while making sure the hostages were out of harm's way. You guys saved over a hundred people!!" Eijirou narrated excitedly, causing my cheeks to blush like crazy.
"To do something like that, during the second year of your work study. It's a big accomplishment, Margo." Todoroki congratulated kindly, giving me a small nod.
Bakugou continued quaking jealously, from next to Todoroki.
I wrapped my arm around Eijirou's neck, as he easily held me in his arms. He's gotten stronger and bigger in this past year and a half....a few more scars donned his body, and his hair was a little longer.
But, he was still a giant teddy bear.
"Alright, alright. Thanks guys. But, enough about me. I want to hear how everyone else's week went." I quickly said, trying to get the attention off me.
"Endeavor's a bitch." Bakugou blurted out, causing Todoroki to shrug in agreement.
"Kacchan!! You can't say things like that!" Midoriya defended, rolling his eyes at Bakugou's behavior.
"Someone had too." Bakugou mumbled, as him and Midoriya began subtly arguing.
Everyone began talking about their work studies now, as I felt Eijirou nudge my shoulder softly.
"Hey, we're still going out tonight, right?" He whispered, trying not to interrupt Ochako's crazy story about her work study.
I smiled, lightly intertwining my hand with his.
"Hmm...go out with my boyfriend, who I haven't seen for a full week, or...watch Netflix, alone in the dark—actually, you know what...that's a pretty hard decision." I teased, feeling Eijirou playfully flick me in the forehead.
"Shit, I didn't think it was possible, but I think you've gotten feistier in the past week." He chuckled into my hair, holding me from behind.
I hummed contently, leaning back into his bare chest.
"Spending a week straight with Mr. Aizawa will do that to a person." I said, shaking my head in amusement.
.......
"Are you sure this looks okay? I mean, remember....I haven't seen him in a week. I want to look my best." I said to Mina, gesturing to my date outfit.
Eijirou would be outside my room any second to take me out.
Mina lightly rolled her eyes, before lying back on my bed.
"Margo, you could go out in a potato sack and that guy would think you're the prettiest person in the world. Seriously, you've had him hooked on you for almost three years." She chuckled, shaking her head lightly at my nervousness, as she wandered over to one of the pictures hanging on my wall.
It was the one Eijirou gave me a while back. The very first picture I ever hanged up in my room.
I put the finishing touches on my lip gloss, hearing Mina chuckle softly at the picture.
"Man, this one was taken when we were first years, right?" She said quietly, clearly reminiscing a little, as she pointed to one of the many pictures in the frame.
I walked over to her side, sitting on the bed as I looked at the picture, too.
"Yeah. Seems like forever ago, huh?" I chuckled softly, remembering my crazy first year at UA high.
"It does. And here we are now, third years. Just one more school year away, from being pro heroes." She whispered in disbelief.
I noticed her serious mood change, throwing my arms around her neck for a hug.
"Yes, and you'll be a great hero. The same way you're a great best friend." I encouraged, squeezing her tightly.
I felt her hug me back, hearing soft sniffles coming from her now.
"Margo, I'm really glad you're here." She whispered kindly, hugging me a little tighter.
I chuckled softly, not used to this sentimental side of her.
"Me too." I reassured, rubbing her back, hearing a knock on my door.
"Kirishima, you jerk!! We're having a moment!" Mina called out teasingly, not releasing her grip on me.
Eijirou opened the door, seeing Mina and I.
"Oi, don't steal my girlfriend, please." He retorted lightly, leaning against the wall.
Mina and I chuckled, as she released me.
"No promises. Have fun you two. Use protection!" She called out loudly, quickly walking out of the room.
Eijirou turned his attention towards me now, his eyes widening slightly when he saw me.
"Wow....you look amazing." he breathed out, not being able to take his gaze off of me.
I smiled at his words, walking over and planting a kiss on his lips.
"So do you. You're wearing the shirt I got you." I said in content, as we began making our way out of the dorm rooms.
Now that we were third years, the students were allowed to come and go as they please. They just needed to be back by midnight, and of course...,boys still weren't allowed to spend the night in the girls' rooms.
Once we got to the stairs, I was expecting to start walking down them, to head out of the building.
I was slightly surprised when Eijirou dragged me in the opposite direction, causing us to go up the stairs instead.
As soon as we began the trek upwards, I already knew where we were going.
"Is she coming, too?" I asked him eagerly, a giant smile already spreading across my face.
"Yep, she's eating dinner first. But, Aizawa said he should get her here in time. Speaking of dinner, you and I have reservations at 8. I booked that Italian place you like." Eijirou called out, as he opened the door at the top of the stairs.
The evening breeze immediately hit us, as we walked out onto the roof. The sky was already starting to turn that orangey, pinkish color.
I hummed lightly, lazily twirling around on the roof.
"You know food is the way to my heart!" I said, feeling Eijirou grab my wrist and pull me to him.
"Well, we'll be eating good tonight. I ran into a Red Riot fan today—man, I still can't get used to saying that. But, anyways I ran into one and he gave me a gift card to the place! He said he was a waiter at the restaurant, and saw you and I on a date there, one time." Eijirou explained, sitting comfortably on the roof.
I smiled softly, at the thought of Red Riot's fans. Eijirou's fan base was growing more and more each day. Among all the people in our class, he was one of the most well liked heroes to the citizens.
I plopped down into his lap, resting my head against his chest.
Eijirou and I talked for awhile, about anything and everything, as well as just catching up about our work study week.
"So, have you talked to Hiroki, lately?" Eijirou asked softly, tracing small circles on my thigh.
"Yeah. I met up with him, during my lunch break, last week. He also texted me a congrats, saying he saw the crazy citizen save I made with Aizawa, live." I said, looking up at the gorgeous lavender clouds that sporadically graced the sky.
"Good. I'm glad you guys saw each other." He reassured, kissing my temple lightly.
Nyushin Labs was completely shut down, about a year ago. All of it's employees were found guilty, and the scandal made international news.
Hiroki Samuels and I, surprisingly, ended up keeping in contact over the past year and a half.
I'm not gonna lie and say we're best friends, because we're not. The terrors of Nyushin still haunt both of us everyday, but for different reasons. Hiroki and I are still fighting our own demons, from those ten years. But, him and I still see each other every couple of months just to check in. Maybe it's fucked up, but I care for the guy in a way...and I know he cares for me.
Once everything was said and done with my trial, a year and a half ago....Hiroki and I decided to see a therapist together, to help us work through our traumatizing time at Nyushin.
It's helped a lot. Occasionally, I still get nightmares about my past. But, they are become less and less prominent, every day...and they are never about him. They are usually about Overhaul, or the other scientists from Nyushin.
As for the league of villains, I'm sure Shigaraki is still out there...baking a giant revenge cake for me. But, when he comes back, I'll be ready.
I haven't heard from Dabi since the Overhaul earthquake. But, I've been keeping tabs on his track record. I wouldn't be surprised if I see him again, with how open he is with his presence nowadays.
Suddenly, the door to the roof flew open, causing Eijirou and I to look towards it.
"There they are! Go get 'em!" Mirio exclaimed, nudging the little girl he had with him, to move forward.
"Ms. Margo!!! Mr. Kirishima!!" The familiar little girl cheered, as she sprinted over to me and Eijirou.
"Hey, it's Eri!!!" Eijirou and I exclaimed, as she jumped into Eijirou's lap with me.
Mirio laughed, walking over to us.
"Man, she ate her dinner so fast because she wanted to get up here. I thought she was gonna choke!" He exclaimed, as Eri immediately ran back to him, holding his hand.
Eijirou and I have taken Eri to watch the sunset, and sunrise, many times now. It's become a regular part of our routine.
Mirio likes to join too, a lot of the time. It's nice. Him, Eijirou, and I usually talk for awhile...while little Eri usually falls asleep in Mirio's lap.
"Mirio!! Look at that cloud!!" Eri exclaimed, jumping up and down as she pointed to a cloud.
"No way!! It looks like an elephant!" Mirio called back, getting animated with his gestures to delight Eri.
Eijirou and I laughed, as we talked with Eri and Mirio for awhile.
Pretty soon, the sun began setting.
Mirio and Eri were a few feet in front of us, talking like crazy about the size of the big, orangey sun.
I leaned back into Eijirou, looking at the gorgeous scenery with him.
"Man, the sunsets never get old. Do they." I stated matter of factly, feeling Eijirou rest his chin on my head.
He chuckled softly, looking at the pale pink sky.
"No, they don't. Sunsets are my favorite." He whispered, holding me tighter.
"There it goes!! Behind the mountains!" Little Eri cheered, as the sun finally went to sleep for the night.
"But, the night is just as beautiful." I whispered, looking up at the night sky.
"Mhmm. But, you're the most beautiful of all." Eijirou retorted, smirking at the cheesy pick up line.
I laughed at his words, feeling my heart flutter in warmth.
"God, I love you." I said to him honestly.
"What?!? You bought that, Margo?! Damn, I guess I've gotta try that cheesy pick up line approach more often. Seems to work like a charm." Mirio chuckled, upon hearing my words to Eijirou.
Eijirou laughed, as he looked down at me....gazing warmly into my eyes.
"You know....I never would have guessed you'd fall for a goof like me. But, I'm definitely not complaining." He smiled, pushing the messy hair out of my face.
He leaned down, warmly planting his lips on mine.
"Go undercover. Pretend to be a UA student." Shigaraki said to me, almost two years ago.
"Alright. I'll do it."
Who knew that decision, would be the one to completely change my life.
Meeting Eijirou Kirishima was either a chance with luck, or my fate. I'm not sure which one it is, but I don't even care.
I'm just glad it happened.
Because, without him....I never would have become the person I am today...the person I am constantly working to better. He showed me what it's like to be good. Actually, he showed me the goodness I already had inside myself, and that is something I will never forget.
We've been through a lot, him and I. I had no doubt we'd go through a lot more.
But, we'd be ready because we have each other...and if that sounds like something a shitty, romantic comedy would say....
Well, good.
"Oh, and just in case it wasn't already obvious....I love you, too." He whispered against my lips, before pulling me in for another kiss.
END.
