The First Note (Dialogue)
The quiet hum of the night was broken by the soft crunch of footsteps on dirt. The moon bathed the forest in pale silver, casting long, eerie shadows between the trees.
"Tanjiro," Zenitsu whispered, his voice shaking. "I-I really don't like this place. It's too quiet. No birds, no insects—th-this is definitely demon territory!"
Tanjiro sniffed the air, his brows furrowing. "You're right. There's something here. The scent is faint, but... it's strange. Not like other demons."
Inosuke let out a laugh, his boar mask tilted upward. "GOOD! I was getting bored of walking around like weak little snails! Let's go find it and—"
"Shhh," you hushed, holding out a hand.
The group fell silent as you closed your eyes, listening.
A sound, distant and haunting, drifted through the trees. Not a scream. Not growling. But... music.
It was a melody, eerie yet beautiful, weaving through the air like a ghost's whisper. A slow, sorrowful tune that sent chills down your spine.
Zenitsu stiffened. "That's... that's music, isn't it?"
Tanjiro nodded. "But it doesn't sound human."
Your grip on your sword tightened. "It's not. That's a demon playing."
A gust of wind rushed past, carrying the melody with it. The air grew heavier, pressing against your chest like a warning.
Nezuko stirred inside her box. Even she could feel it.
"Let's move carefully," you said, stepping forward. "Something tells me this isn't a normal fight."
As the melody continued, the Kamaboko Squad moved forward, unaware that this battle would be unlike any other they had faced.
