Chapter 38

"Can you tell me a bedtime story Mom?", he whispered to her, which she responded with a little kiss on his forehead.

"Once upon a time there was a little girl. She wasn't confident, she was scared of the world and she was heartbroken. But her doe eyes sparkled whenever she could see the sun setting over sea. When the bright fireball would glow in the sky, the clouds would be painted with the most beautiful colours she had ever seen, whenever the sun brushed the surface of the sea, the blue sea would perfectly reflect the red sky. From yellow, red and blue to emerald, ocherous and moccasin, she knew all the colors. She could look at something and would be able to name all the hundred colours contained. And whenever she watched the sun and the sky play their colourful game, she calmed down. And for a moment she could feel that happiness and faith she ever wished for. Happiness in life, Faith in Love. And when the sun would have vanished behind the horizon she could still imagine the sky's colours when she look at the millions of stars. And even if she felt so small, she felt secured. It was her home."

When Jia finished her story she could see Bo smiling brightly at her, something he hadn't done for weeks.

With teary eyes and a broken heart Jia glanced at her child and caressed his head. Bo would just smile consistently and a little tear now glided down his cheek.

"You are my home Jia."

"We are a family, Bo. I never loved someone as much as I love you."

Bo nodded approvingly to her words and grabbed his stuffteddy to cuddle it.

"You'll get a sibling, Bo."

Surpised Bo's eyes sparkled and he stumbled: "I always wanted a brother, but a sister would also be okay."

"I want you to choose a name."

"That's easy. Eddy. Just like my stuffteddybear."

"Beautiful."

All of a sudden Bo starting coughing again and bended from the severe pain in his fragile body.

"Make it go away!", he screamed for help and tossed around in bed. Millions of tears streamed down his young face.

"It hurts so much!"

The woman just held him close and began to sing a song to his ears. She inwardly hoped this would help and he would calm down soon.

After a while he calmed down and Jia gave him some tea. A few minutes they just stared at the ceiling next to each other until Bo finally came out with a question that had been bothering him all the time.

"Does dying hurt much?"

"You won't die my love.", Jia promised and held back her tears.

"I'm scared."

"You shouldn't be scared Bo. I'm here."

"I think I'm dying tonight.", he murmered through tears. Jia could see the sheer panic in his big eyes.

"The medicine will arrive soon, you'll make it."

"Promise me to not cry too much if I'm not here anymore."

"Promise me to not give up!"

"I promise... "

Jia kissed his head carefully and her sight turned blurry from looking at the innocent child.

"I'll just sleep for a moment."

Bo hugged Jia tightly and his tired eyes closed again. For a while Jia stared at the little child, before she also closed hers.

Shortly before she had slept in he opened his lips once again.

"Thankyou, Mom."

And afterwards the only thing she heard was the steady heartbeat of her beloved son.
