4: Will
When Will felt the warmth of the writing on his arm, he didn't look right away. He was discussing a patient's condition with them and he felt it would be rude to look. But his eyes did wander towards the clock by the door. Now he wanted to be quick and see the writing.
Ever since he was young and the writing was just colorful splotches of color due to markers, he found it wondrous. He always wanted to know what would appear next. And as a child, he tried to contact them. He would say hi and they would always reply hi but after that, Will would become shy. But at ten, "hi"s stopped being exchanged. There was writing still but no longer for him. He wondered what had happened.
When he entered middle school, he tried asking where they lived but every time he asked, no reply came. Eventually he learned that locations would not appear. It had to happen naturally. It didn't matter anyway, his soulmate had stopped completely writing to him. In high school, the surprise came. He woke up one day, nearing the end of the school year, and found an unfinished tattoo on his back. It took a week for the tattoo to be completed. They were angel wings. The artwork was beautiful. He had never seen art more stunning.
After the tattoo, he liked going to beaches and really anywhere where people had the excuse to take off their shirts. Will being Will, enjoyed the sun and the time outside, so he figured he was hitting two birds with one stone. All of his summers in college consisted of him dragging his two best friends often to lakes, pools, beaches, spas even, to try and find anyone with a matching tattoo. He never did and unfortunately once he started working, he didn't have much time to visit bodies of water. While he still tried keeping his eye out for anyone on days he wrote on his arms, he thought that with having less time to look, he was failing. So the amazement when he realized that the patient he had just saved wrote back to him was immeasurable.
Finally ending the conversation with the patient, he looked at his arm. He didn't waste a second to run to room 102. A couple other doctors chided him as he ran past them but none actually tried to stop him. All the better for him. It meant he would arrive sooner to his soulmate. At the door, he had to take a moment to compose himself. He was breathing harder from running and no doubt excitement and nerves.
He opened the door slowly, not wanting to disturb him. He didn't have to worry though, he was fast asleep. Will wondered if it was okay to go inside and wait for him to wake or if that would be considered weird. But he took so much time considering it that Nico awoke in the middle of it. He noticed when he was suddenly too still. Will took that chance to pull out a pen and wrote, I can't believe I found you this way. Because he absolutely could not. All that time searching only to find him at the hospital.
It took Nico a couple moments for him to talk. Will waited patiently. "How long did I sleep?"
"Since you asked me to come here? Maybe about an hour. I couldn't come right away. There was another patient." He suddenly wished there hadn't been so he could have been here right away.
Will didn't know if Nico had recognized him yet but he definitely did once he decided to sit up. Will ran to his side and gently settled him back down. "Didn't I tell you to stay down? You'll hurt yourself even more."
Nico looked at him tentatively. Will took note of his blush. "What did you say your name was again?"
"Will Solace."
"Will Solace," he repeated. "Who would have thought it was my doctor who's my soulmate."
Will smiled, "If I'd known it was you, I wouldn't have left your side."
"You might not have wanted to but as you said, there was another patient."
Will scoffed. "I'm not the only doctor here y'know. We are in a hospital."
After taking a moment to think of his reply he said, "So what do we do now?"
"What?"
"What happens next?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean," Nico started, "So we found each other. You're my soulmate. I'm yours. What happens now?"
"I...m not sure. Do we have to know right away?"
Nico tried to shrug but when that brought a fresh wave of pain, he let his shoulders sag in defeat. Will noticed and reached out but it wasn't like he could absorb the pain, so he too let his arms settle back at his side. "I guess not."
"I have a suggestion."
"What is it?"
"We take it one day at a time."
"I like your suggestion, Solace."
Will smiled, "I think━"
The door opened. The nurse poked his head through, "Will, good. I thought you might be here. They need you. A surgery is coming up soon. You need to set up."
"But I━"
"You did a great job. So you're up again."
Will rolled his eyes. "Yeah right. She's stuck in traffic again isn't she?"
The nurse smiled. "It's a good thing you're here right?"
Will sighed and stood. He sent Nico a smile on his way out. "I'll see you later?"
Nico smirked, "I can't very well leave, now can I?"
Will chuckled. "Alright."
The nurse gestured for them to go and Will quickly followed him out. "You're really serious about this taking care of your first surgery patient."
Will smiled, "Who do you take me for? Of course I am! Especially now that I know he's my soulmate."
The nurse sputtered, "What really!? He's your soulmate?!"
Will laughed, "Yeah. Can you believe it? I have amazing luck. My fist surgery patient, completely successful by the way, and he's my soulmate!"
The nurse, shocked, was left behind as Will continued walking. When he saw he was no longer walking beside him, he turned and gestured for him to follow. "What are you waiting for? We have to go."
