3: Nico

Nico noticed his leg wasn't just broken when Hazel visited him at the hospital the first time and he tried to sit and there was extra pain in his thigh, (and of course the pain from his broken rib). At first he thought it was just the broken leg but then he remembered it hadn't hurt like that when he was a kid and he broke his arm. Even if the arm and leg were different body parts, a broken bone must hurt the same.

After Hazel left, making sure to order Nico to call her as often as he could, a nurse came in. Nico asked for the blonde doctor. The nurse seemed to guess what it was that Nico wanted to know and tried to give him the reason behind the pain in his leg but Nico refused any of it and insisted on the blonde doctor. That one was the one who did the surgery. He wanted his explanation. So the nurse fetched him and Nico got his answers. And he was not happy about it. Why did he have to be so stupid? Driving and drinking. When it was snowing so the roads were icy. He wanted to punch himself. So stupid.

He brought his hands up to his face and dragged them down in exasperation. "Why am I like this?"

Well, he could be angry but there was nothing he could do now. He decided to sleep instead to calm down and forget for a while how completely messed up his life was. He had only just gotten comfortable when he felt the familiar warmth of the writing appearing on his forearm. He usually ignored it since all it ever was these days was a name and a time. Just a month ago, there were times when it was whole paragraphs of notes. From those notes, Nico was able to discover his soulmate was at the very least interested in medicine or being a doctor of some kind. When the notes turned to names and times, he figured he had been right and his soulmate had become a doctor. But he had stopped caring a long time ago. He didn't think he would ever find him. Not with his luck. So when he turned fourteen he stopped looking to the random writing on his arms for comfort. But for some reason, right now, he wanted to look. He wanted that familiar comfort he had gathered from it as a kid and up until he was fourteen. So he lifted his arm, and looked.

Nico di Angelo

Nico took a breath. His name. He watched as a number wrote itself under his name.

102

What did that mean? It suddenly struck him that he was in a hospital and if his theories really were true, his soulmate was a doctor. Was that his room number? His heart sped up. This entire time...his soulmate was in this town too? He needed to know his room number. He pressed the button by his bed to call the nurse. Anxiously, he waited. When the nurse opened the door and came in, Nico almost expected him to be the one with the identical writing on his arm. After all, he was one of the ones who knew him and his room number. He wanted to narrow it down to which other doctors or nurses it could be but there were the ones he hadn't seen when they moved him into this room. And the ones who had taken care of him over night.

Nico didn't even let him ask what was wrong before he asked, "What's my room number?"

The nurse frowned, confused by the question, but he answered. "One hundred and two."

Nico stopped breathing. His soulmate was in this hospital. And he had already met him. He started breathing again when the nurse started looking worried instead of confused. "I'm fine," he said, "You can go."

He gave him one long look before deciding that he was, in fact, fine and then turned to leave.

"Wait," an idea had sprung to him, "Do you have a pen?"

The nurse wasn't surprised by this. Nico knew at the hospital, lots of people could want pens to write something to their soulmate. The nurse took the a pen from the pocket on his shirt and handed it to Nico. He left right after. Nico considered what he was doing. Once he did this, he could meet hi soulmate. Once that was done, his life would be completely changed. Even if nothing else changed, he knew his nightly routine would definitely change. No more one night stands with strangers who also never believed would find their soulmate. He would have someone he could confide in. So he took the chance and wrote under his soulmate's writing.

Come to my room.

Once his soulmate saw that, he would immediately know that Nico was his soulmate but Nico would have no way of knowing until he came to him. So while he waited, he tried to calm his nerves by taking deep breaths. When that didn't work, he covered his eyes with his arm and tried to relax. Nico must have dozed off at some point because next thing he knew, he was waking up to the soft heat of something being written on his arm. He was suddenly very aware of his surroundings. Was he there? When he removed his arm from his eyes and opened them would he find him standing there?

First, he lifted is arm and opened his eyes to see what was being written.

I can't believe I found you this way.

He felt someone staring and he knew that he was there. Too nervous to look at him right away, he asked, "How long did I sleep?"

"Since you asked me to come here? Maybe about an hour. I couldn't come right away. There was another patient."

From his voice I knew immediately who it was and there was nothing else to do but look. When I tried to sit up, the blondie rushed to my side and stopped me. "Didn't I tell you to stay down? You'll hurt yourself even more."

"What did you say your name was again?"

"Will Solace."
