Chapter 2

POV: Falconkit (3 Moons Old)

"Okay, look. I know I'm just a kit like you, but I still have lots I can teach you." Snowkit stated after the millionth time of me saying no.

"How much more could you possibly know?" I meowed skeptically from the rock I was grooming myself on. I was tired of Snowkit asking me. I tried to ignore her but she was — unfortunately — a extraordinarily persistent cat. She just. Wouldn't. Stop. "You're not even an apprentice yet."

"No, but Mom's determined to make me and Rainkit the best warriors ever." Snowkit explained. It was actually almost hilarious how vastly different Snowkit's mom and my mom were. Lilybloom wanted her kits to become great warriors. And my mom wasn't even letting me become an apprentice because I had ONE TINY FLAW. "And she was a mentor before she had us, so..."

"So she taught you a bunch of apprentice stuff." I finished briskly for her, speaking with a tone only slightly bitter, not pausing my grooming to look at Snowkit.

"Exactly!" Snowkit said, either not noticing or not caring about my tone. "So, will you let me train you?"

"Hm..." I pretended to think about it for a second, even though I already knew my answer, stopping my grooming and trying to jump from my rock, but I ended up tumbling onto the ground, and Snowkit, of course, caught me. I stared at her awkwardly, quickly standing up. I looked into her wide, ice blue eyes, pretending I didn't just tumble right into her. "No. Nope. Definitely not. Never." I replied. "When will you ever stop asking?"

"When you agree." She answered matter-of-factly.

"Well, it's good you're patient." I started padding over to the fresh-kill pile, since I was starving and hadn't had food all day. "Since you'll be asking for a while."

"...So, that means you'll agree eventually?" Snowkit asked, then noticed me grab a small mouse from the fresh-kill pile. "I never understood that." She commented. "Doesn't your mother give you milk? You're only three moons old, I don't think it's healthy for a kit for a kit your age to eat fresh-kill."

"Tell that to my mom." I half-meowed, half-hissed, beginning to eat the mouse. "And what would you know? Don't tell me you're training to be a medicine cat too."

"No, I'm not." Snowkit was unfazed by my bitter words. She was used to that by now. Acornfur had completely abandoned me soon after I befriended Snowkit, and I wasn't taking the rejection very well. Acornfur had moved on from her mess of a kit and decided to become a warrior, leaving me to learn how to survive on fresh-kill on my own. Well, Snowkit was there, but she wasn't much help, as she was only drinking milk provided by her much more loving, much more caring mother.

"...sorry. I... I don't know what came over me." I said awkwardly after a minute of silence, realizing my mistake. I looked away from her, embarrassed.

Snowkit ran over to me and touched her nose to mine. "It's okay." She purred supportively. "I'd fight the world for you. Staying by your side when you're angry at the unfairness of this world is nothing."

Her words fuelled me. If she'd be willing to fight for me, than I should be able to fight for myself. "You know what, train me." I was finally willing to fight to become an apprentice. I was going to fight for my right to be given a chance.

"Really?" Snowkit asked, surprised. But, Snowkit being Snowkit, she didn't even wait for me to reply. "YES!" Snowkit exclaimed. "FINALLY!"
