Itachi Uchiha is a young man, he's currently eighteen and lives alone. He has a family that love him dearly, friends, females and males constantly throwing themselves at him. A skilled Shinobi, a good life that many envy, but something he didn't have was a lover.

Many had wanted dreamed to be his lover, but he had his eyes already set on someone.

Shisui uchiha

His best friend since he was young, he stopped seeing him as a older brother figured. He had the biggest crush on him, but shisui didn't know. How he longed for the day to call him his, the day where there lips touched, where he says ' I love you itachi '.

But it seems that day was far from happing, shisui was straight unlike him who was gay. He didn't see itachi like a lover, but as a younger brother and nothing more.

Shisui was currently with a lovely female, it hurt itachi's but he was happy for him. His feelings for shisui were growing by each passing day, and today something strange happened.

He was in his apartment doing nothing really, when he felt his chest hurt a little. He felt like he needed to cough, and he did and when he looked at his palm, his eyes widen.

There in the palm of his hand where red rose petals, he knew all too well what it meant. This was common in konoha, it meant he had hanahaki .

A disease that is caused when you have a one-sided love, and the one you love dosen't love you back. If the feelings are mature enough you start to cough up flowers. The only way to get rid of this disease is, you can have the flowers surgically removed, but once removed the feelings you had for the person, goes with it. Or the victim dies.

Itachi looked at the petals, knowing he's started to cough them up meant his feelings for the elder were strong. But knowing this meant he had another problem.

Not only did he have to deal with but his illness, since young itachi was told he was sick with a incurable illness. He didn't know how long he had, and so far it wasn't as bad. But this was something he couldn't hid from his family and friends, I mean he's coughing up flowers.

Itachi was over at his parents house, they were talking about recent missions, and stuff.

" I'm glad to hear you're doing fine with your missions itachi "

" Of course mother and father "

" I wouldn't expect anything less from you "

" Of course fa- "

He suddenly felt the urge to cough, he placed a hand over his mouth. He began to cough, alerting his parents.

" Itachi!, Sweetie are you alright? "

His mother told him, placing a hand on his right shoulder.

" I'm fine mother, no need to worry "

He took his hand away from his mouth, and opened it to see a couple red rose petals. His parents eyes widen a little, there's only one reason why someone cough up flowers.

" I-itachi "

" I was planning on telling you guys later, but now seems like I have to. I have hanahaki "

His parents eyes widen, there son just told them he had a disease. Yes it wasn't as deadly but at the same time it was, some people do die by it.

" Itachi son, who is this woman "

" Well actually it's not a woman "

" What? "

" I really didn't want to say this, but what I'm about to tell you I'll fully understand if you hate me. I'm gay and I love shisui uchiha "

His parents eyes widen a little, itachi felt nervous and waiting for his parents to disown him. His mother placed a hand over his right shoulder, and gave him a gentle smile.

" Itachi sweetie, gay or not you're our son. We'll never hate you "

" Your mother's right son, sexuality dosen't matter to us. Secrets like this aren't something to hid, we're your family. We'll be there for you, no matter what son "

Fugaku placed his hand on his left shoulder, and gave him a smile. Itachi eyes widen a little, and felt happy.

" What do I do? "

" Well son, if you love someone you go after them with all your might. That's how I got your mother "

It's been four mouths since itachi got, hanahaki throughout those four months he's bearly hanged out with shisui. He wanted to fight for his love, but he already had a special someone in his life.

He couldn't bear to see that, so he began to distance himself from him. Making up any excuse to not be with him, shisui began to grow supisious of it.

He missed hanging out with his best friend, so today he was determine to get to the bottom of it. Today was itachi day off and so was his, and he knew damn well he had nothing to do.

He was in the forest and saw itachi was training, he began to walk up to him slowly, to sneak up on him. But before he could, itachi quickly turned around and pined him to the ground, and held a kunai knife to his neck.

" Shisui, how many times have I told you not to sneak up on me? "

" A lot "

Itachi got up and offered him a hand, and shisui excepted it. Itachi helped him up, feeling warm inside just by a simple touch.

" Itachi your no fun "

" Shisui were both shinobi's "

" Hmph "

He pouts and itachi Blushes a little, he had his lower lips out and a little angry look on his face. It was cute, itachi always liked when he pouts, but quickly looks away.

" What are you doing here anyways?, Shouldn't you be with you're girlfriend "

" I wanted to see if you wanted to hangout, emo's out on a mission "

" Sorry I can't shisui I have things I have to do "

" But it's your day off "

" Yes, and I have to things to do either way. Maybe next time "

Itachi turns away to walk away, but shisui grabs his right wrist and pulls him towards him. Itachi looks back at him and sees shisui has a serious look on his face.

" Okay, what's up with you? You never have time to hangout with me anymore "

" I'm simply busy "

" Since four months ago "

" Yes shisui, I have duties as a Shinobi to do "

" Then why do you have time to still talk to your mom, train sasuke. Everyone but me! "

" Shisui lower your- "

" No itachi, there's something clearly bothering you and you won't tell me. I'm your best friend, I opened up to you. Why can't you open up to me! "

" Shisui it's not- "

But before itachi could finish his sentence, he placed a hand over his hand and began to cough. Shisui got worried and placed a hand on his right shoulder.

" Itachi!, You okay?! "

" Yeah "

He pulls his hand away from his mouth, and opens his hand. In the palm of his hands where red rose petals, and shisui looked confused.

" Did you eat a rose? "

" No shisui I didn't eat a rose "

Shisui looked at him a little shocked but quickly brushed the thought away.

" That's okay, then let's find this guy and- "

" No shisui I can't "

" Why not? "

" He already has someone he loves dearly, I don't want to see that get ruin because of me "

" But you love him, come on itachi tell me who this man is "

" I'm sorry shisui but I can't, I don't to ruin what he has "

" But itachi- "

" Please shisui, as my friend could you just stand by my side until the end "

Itachi gives him a pleading look, shisui wants to say no. But he's always been stubborn and went with what his mind said, and not his heart.

" Alright itachi, I'll stand with you till the end. As your friend, best friend "

A year passed now, everyone around itachi now knew he had hanahaki , sasuke was angry at itachi for not wanting to do anything. But in the end gave in, and was going to spend time with him till he died. No one but his parents knew who he liked, he refused to tell anyone and so did his parents.

His illness was getting worse, he felt more drained and couldn't use his Sharingan as much. He's been coughing up more rose petals and each day, the amount increased.

Itachi was over at kakashi's apartment, and was hanging out with him and obito.

" So itachi who do you love? "

" I'm sorry but I wish not to say "

" Have you even tried to go after this guy? "

" He's with someone already "

" But still this is your life were talking about, you're just going to wait until the day you die "

" I just want him to be happy, and nothing more "

" It's shisui isn't it? "

" Huh? "

" What!?, Are you crazy I don't like him, I see him as a older brother! "

' itachi it's obvious how you look at him, the loving look you give him, how you'll do anything for him. Itachi it's so clear "

" So what I love shisui, but he already has someone. I can't break it up because I want to live, besides he doesn't even like me "

" That's because you haven't fought for his love "

" Why are you even telling me this, how would you know what I'm facing "

" Because I had Hanahaki Too "

Itachi looks at kakashi with a suprised look.

" I used to cough up white flowers "

" How did you get rid of it? '

" I got with obito, I was on the bridge of death when I went to him. He excepted my feelings, and we've been happy since then "

" I see "

" What I'm saying itachi is, go and chase him. If you don't you will die, you can be happy "

Itachi looked at the couple and saw a whole new light, he saw how happy they looked. He thought him and shisui could be like that, but he'll end up dying from his illness and leave him alone. Was he really going to take that risk?

Yes, he was.

Itachi was currently was with shisui at there spot the cliff, shisui was quieter than usual. It made itachi uneasy, and worry.

" We broke up, things weren't working. All she wants to do is argue "

" I'm sorry shisui "

Itachi placed a hand on his best friend shoulder, and rub it up and down.

" I guess, but we didn't even love each other anymore. So what was the point in staying together "

Itachi pulled him into a hug and shisui hugs him back, shisui burned His head in-between his right shoulder and neck. Itachi felt something warm, he knew what it was and rubbed comforting circles on his back.

That night he held him and let him cry out his pain, and when he got home he cried himself. Wanting his lovers to hold him, kiss him, tell him ' it's going to be alright '.

But it never happened, and that part hurt him the most. Knowing he wasn't there, he eventually cried himself to sleep.

It's been a mouth since shisui break up, he was doing good. Itachi feelings grew and since he was single now, it was the perfect time to show him how he felt.

Currently they were out on a mission, it was team minato and them. Itachi was trying to show him how he felt, but he wasn't picking up on it.

Causing the other three to shake there heads, on how dense shisui is. But soon they were ambushed by a group of rouge ninjas, itachi was fighting and looking back seeing no one would hurt shisui.

" Shisui look out! "

A ninja was going to stab him, and as shisui turned around he saw itachi took the hit for him. His eyes widen and itachi coughed up some blood, and feel to his knees.

Kakashi quickly killed the man, and shisui held him bridal style.

" Itachi, why did you get in the way?! "

" To protect you "

" But I could protect myself "

" I'll do anything to protect you shisui, because........I- "

Before he could finish his sentence he passed out, and shisui's eye's widened.

" No, no, no, itachi wake up!! "

" Shisui!, I can't heal him if you keep moving him!!! "

" Sorry Rin "

Shisui watched as Rin healed him, but he wondered what itachi was going to say.

Another year passed and itachi tried to show shisui his love for him, but the idiot sadly didn't see it. Each passing day itachi was getting close to death.

Currently it was October 19th, shisui's birthday, itachi had gotten shisui a good gift. He asked shisui to meet him at the cliff at nine, itachi currently stood there waiting for him.

He heard footsteps behind him, he turned to see shisui walking over to him.

" Yo "

" Hey happy 23 birthday "

" Thanks "

Itachi held out a box nearly wrapped in blue wrapping paper and with a red ribbon on it. Shisui took it from him, and began to open it up and his eyes widen.

Inside was a set of kunai knives that he's wanted, but didn't have enough to buy it.

" Itachi...."

" I Know you really wanted it, so I took up a couple side jobs. I even sharpened them myself, but did cut myself a couple times "

" Is that why you have bandages wrapped around your hands? "

" Yeah "

" Itachi, thank you "

He pulled itachi in for a hug, itachi Blushes but hugs him back. He wanted to go further than a hug, but knew it might never happen.

It was now currently winter, and they were snow everywhere and kids playing in it. Itachi forgot to grab his jacket this morning and rushed out of the apartment.

It was really cold but itachi tried to brush it off, and walked in the forest to meet up with shisui. He soon got to the cliff and saw shisui, he wore a brown jacket the tip of his ears and nose were red from the cold.

" Oh hey ita-, itachi where's your jacket? "

" I forgot it at home "

" But it's freezing out today "

" I'll manage, let's just get to training "

Shisui frowns a little, he walked over to itachi. He pulled him close to him, and wrapped the both of them in the jacket. Itachi Blushes as his face was against his chest, he felt how warm he was.

" Sh-shisui "

" You'll catch a cold, let's just stay like this. My jacket big enough for the both of us "

Itachi Blushes and hugs him around the waist, shisui smiles and runs a hand through his hair. Itachi so badly wanted to lean up and kiss him, but knew he couldn't.

His eyes show a little sadness, and he puts his face on his chest, causing shisui to chuckle.

Another year happened and shisui still didn't notice his feelings for him, itachi illness been getting worse. He was getting weaker and cough up blood sometimes with the roses.

He knew his time was coming closer, but shisui was now conflicted. Lately he's been feeling weird around itachi, and he didn't know why.

Currently itachi, Shisui, sasuke, fugaku, and Mikoto were at fugaku and Mikoto's house. Having some nice family time, and everyone was having so much fun.

Throughout the whole time, itachi chest was hurting and he kept coughing. But the pain was increasing and it felt oh so bad.

Sasuke was currently telling everyone about his most recent mission, the pain in itachi's chest hurt. Each minute it increased itachi knew what it was, his time was coming.

His family didn't know, they all looked so Happy. Itachi was glad to see them all happy one last time.

Then a Terrible pain shot through his body, it felt as though someone just stabbed him through the chest. He placed a hand over his mouth and began to cough violently, his alarmed his family, he hasn't coughed up that bad ever.

" Itachi! "

Itachi felt his onxy eyes full with tears, the pain was terrible. It felt like someone was slowly pulling out his heart. He couldn't breathe as well, hot tears fell down his cheeks to the ground.

Everyone's eyes widen when they saw him began to cough up blood and rose petals. When you started to cough violently flowers and blood, it usually meant the person was going to die.

" No!, Itachi stay with me!! "

Shisui held him in his arms, itachi held a hand over his mouth. His hearing was going out, and his vision was blurry, and all he felt was pain nothing more.

' I'm sorry Mom and Dad, sorry I couldn't be the brave son you wanted.

" Itachi sweetie stay with us!! "

" It's going to be okay son!!, Get a medical ninja!! "

Sasuke I'm sorry I didn't hangout with you as much as I should of. I just wish before I go, for you to call me elder brother one last time

" Nii-chan!!, Don't go!!, Hang in there please!!! "

Shisui I wish I could of had more time with you, but it just couldn't happen. I loved the time we spent together

" Itachi hang in there!! "

I love every second of it, I was glad to be your friend. I'll never forget you and your kindness, I love you with all my heart shisui uchiha. maybe then, if I had a little bit more courage and stood before you, would things be different

" Itachi please!! "

Shisui began to tear up and his tears fell down on itachi's face, and itachi eyes began to feel heavy. He tried to keep them open but couldn't, slowly he felt the life in him began to fade.

I'm sorry everyone, I love you all. So long and goodnight, Goodbye '

Itachi cough one last time and he fell limp in shisui's arms, everyone froze knowing what happened. They didn't want to believe it, itachi uchiha died.

Mikoto let out a loud scream of his name and began to sob, sasuke eyes were wide tears falling down his face. Fugaku held a suprised face and tears fell down his cheeks, and shisui grip tighten around him.

" ITACHI!! "

Itachi funeral took place a week after he died, friends and family gather around to grief over him. Throughout the whole time shisui felt numb, he just lost his best friend.

He didn't remember what went on, he was the last to stay at his grave. He had sad eyes, and slowly he placed a single rose, a red rose on the grave.

He soon walked away and to his apartment, he saw a letter was on his coffee table with a note next to it. He picked up the note and read it.

We found this in itachi's room, this was address to you. I didn't see you at home so I left it here.

Shisui placed the note down, and picked up the letter. It was in a nice white envelop, and had a nice red wax stamp to keep it close shut. In the front was written shisui uchiha in black bold cursive letters.

Shisui opened the envelope and pulled out the letter, he unfolded the paper and began to read it.

Dear shisui,

If you are reading this then I'm already dead, I'm sorry I was never able to fully open up to you. I loved the time we spent together, I loved no matter how much pain you were going through, you always smiled. They are a lot of things I'll regret when I'm gone, but something I'll never regret is loving you shisui uchiha. You are the man I loved, I loved you with everything I had, I won't ever regret it. Even if you never returned my feeling, as long as I was able to stand next to and be called your friend, that was enough. I don't ever want you to think it was your fault I died, it wasn't your fault you never returned my feelings. I had the option to tell you, but I didn't. Even if you never got the hint I loved you, but no matter what I'll always Love you. Thank you for everything you ever did for me, I love you shisui uchiha I'll be watching you from above.

Tears fell down his face, and he placed down the letter. He cried, it was his fault he died, he loved him and he didn't notice.

Shisui thought back on the Time they spent together, and his heart clenched. But then as he though back he realized he always felt warm and fuzzy inside when he was with him. He also realized throughout all his relationships he never really liked any of those females, and was always happier with itachi. Then it all clicked together.

His eyes filled with tears, he loves itachi but he's no longer with him. But suddenly he felt his chest get a little tight, and got the urge to cough.

He put his hand over his mouth and coughed, once done he pulled away. He opened his hand and his eyes widen, there in his hands were red rose petals.
