Chapter 24
I wake up a few hours later and smile. I'm going to my first Broadway show today. I sit up and kiss Chad on the cheek, "Thanks for not letting go." He nods, and pulls me in for a hug, "It's almost Broadway time." I jump up, and grin, "I know! Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get ready." I grab my suitcase, and dig through it.
My rainbow knit sweater, dark jeans, and bright red boots. I get my makeup bag, and walk towards the bathroom, but somebody blocks it. Joey.
"What are you doing?" He asks. "Putting on makeup," I reply, trying to push past him. He shakes his head, "No. God made you way too beautiful to cover it up. I'm not allowing you to wear makeup today."
"But I have to look nice today," I point out. He nods, "I know. You already look beautiful, trust me, love." I try arguing, but my efforts fail. Joey wins. I sigh and throw my makeup bag back in my suitcase. I change my clothes, and French braid my hair.
"Okay, I'm ready. This is as good as it's gonna get," I sigh, eyeing Joey. "You look beautiful, kiddo," Caleb says, standing next to me. I smile, "Thanks bro. I'm totally ready for this play."
We get into two taxis for our ride to the theater. Joey, Caleb, Chad and I in one, and Alan and the kids in the other.
We get to the theater, and I'm in awe of how beautiful it is. "Wow," I gasp, "I can't believe I'm actually here." We get to our seats, and I reach over and squeeze Alan's hand very tightly. "These seats are perfect, Alan. Thank you so much!" I gush, anticipating the start of the show.
I open my playbill and skim through it. Before I know it, the lights are dimming and the overture is playing. I watch in awe through the entire first act, wishing it could all slow down. I don't want this night to end.
The lights come up, and it's fifteen minute intermission. It's hard to believe we've already been here over and hour. Caleb leaves with AJ to take her to the bathroom. I lean my head over onto Alan's shoulder.
"You having a good time, my Mia?" He asks, kissing my forehead. I grin, "Yes. Thank you for doing this Alan, it must've costed a fortune. I'm just so glad I get to be here." He lets out a chuckle, "I'm so glad I got to bring you here."
Caleb returns just as the lights are dimming for Act Two. I'm again awestruck through the performances, and when the finale music plays, I find myself emotional. This perfect night can't be over already. The last note to the finale is struck, and I'm on my feet clapping for the cast. They all come out and do their final bow, and I clap until my hands are numb. I cheer and scream for each cast member until my throat is hoarse. Once the last person bows, the cast disappears, and that's it. It's over.
"If you want to meet the cast, I'll go with you to the stage door," Joey volunteers. I hug him, "Thanks Joey, you're the best person in the world!"
"Hey! I thought I was the best person in the world," Alan jokes. I nod, "And you are. But you have to take all four of your children back to the hotel."
"Okay. Be careful. Stay with Joey. Don't come back too late, and most importantly have fun, my dear," Alan says, kissing the top of my head.
I walk over to Joey, and grab his hand. "The stage door's this way," he says, tugging me towards the stage door.
We get there, and the first person I spot is Adam Jacobs, who plays Aladdin. I walk up to him, and he smiles. "Hey, did you enjoy the show?" He asks.
I nod, "Yes, it was fantastic! I'm glad it was my first Broadway show!" He looks kinda shocked, "Your first show?! Did it live up to your expectations?"
"It shattered them!" I say. He hugs me, and I grin, "Would you like to sign my playbill?" He nods, "Of course." He scribbles down his name, and after we pose for a quick picture, he walks off.
"He was so nice!" I gush. Joey nods, "Let's meet somebody else." When I notice that Courtney Reed, who played Jasmine is walking towards me. "Hi," she waves.
I smile, "Hi, you're a beautiful Jasmine." She grins, "Awh, thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the show." After signing my playbill, Joey snaps a picture of us, and she moves on.
"It's James," I whisper to Joey, seeing none other than Genie. I walk over to him, and he strikes up a conversation. "Aladdin's my favorite Disney movie," I tell him, "I'm so glad I got to see the play adaptation."
"I know how it feels. I used to obsess over Disney too," he laughs, "and when I saw The Lion King on broadway I couldn't believe it. Whatever you dream is, just chase it. I didn't think it was possible for me to be here, but I am. You can do anything."
I tuck a piece of hair behind my ear, and grin, "Thanks James. I actually really needed that." He smiles, "Glad I could help." As he wraps his arms around me, Joey takes a picture. James signs my playbill, then walks away. I'm really happy there's only a few people at the stage door, because the actors can actually take time with us.
I talk to a few ensemble members, and Jonathan Freeman, who plays Jafar. Then Joey tells me we have to take a taxi back to the hotel.
We get back to the hotel, and quietly enter the room, because the girls are already in bed. "Thanks for staying with me, Joey. You're really the best!" I hug him. He grins, and smooths my hair, "Anytime Mia, I love you." I grin, "You too Joe. Tell Caleb I said night."
I walk into my room and toss my stuff down on my bed. Chad looks up from the computer, "You have a nice time?" I nod, "Yeah, my playbill has autographs, and my phone has pictures. I'll be back."
I go next door to Alan's room, and cautiously open the door. "Hey Al, I'm home," I whisper. He walks over to me, and wraps his arms around me, "Okay. Thanks for letting me know, kid. Night." I smile, "I'll tell you all about it in the morning, love you." He kisses my head, "You too girl."
I go back to the room, and see Chad. "I'm going to take a shower," I inform him. I take my shower, and go back to the room. Chad's still fooling around on his laptop. I brush out my hair, and sit next to him on his bed. He pulls the duvet up around us and grins, "Tell me all about it."
I begin telling him every detail, using my phone and playbill as visual aids. I almost tear up while telling him what James said, "I think I know what I'm going to do with my life."
"Really what?" Chad asks, sounding very intrigued. I shake my head, "Nope, sorry Chadster, you'll have to wait until morning so I can tell all four of you, plus Josh and Jax via Skype at once."
He pouts, "Pwease, I'm your bestest friend." I shake my head, "I want to tell you all at once." He nods, "Okay, we better go to bed so that tomorrow we come sooner." I shake my head, "Let's Skype with Fallon."
We Skype with her for a quite a while, then Chad decides it's actually time for bed. "See ya in the morning, baby sis. Sleep well," he says. "You too Chadster," I reply, getting cozy and drifting off.
