Chapter 16

"Mia! We saw Minions!" Presley, AveryJade, and Rowe cheer. I pause the music, and turn to them, "Was it any good?" Presley nods, "The best."

"Mmm, it smells good in here, hon," Brycie says. "I made dinner for everybody. Caleb helped, but I just kicked him out," I giggle.

"Kids! Let's eat!" Alan says, swooping Rowe onto his shoulder. Rowe squeals with delight, and Alan grabs Presley and puts her under his arm.

Everybody gets into the kitchen, and sits down. Alan blesses the food, and I begin serving everybody.

"When you're done, there's peach pie," I say, slyly. Alan kisses my cheek as I scoop mashed potatoes onto his plate, "You're the best pretty girl, you know that?" I feel my cheeks getting warm, and quickly try to hide it.

I get everybody, including the girls their food, and take my seat on Alan's left, next to Rowe.

We finish our dinner and our pie, Brycie and the girls clean up the table. Alan chases me to the living room, threatening me with the "Tickle Monster".

"Did you have a good afternoon with your girls?" I ask him. He nods, "Yeah, but one of them was home hanging out with Caleb."

"It's okay, I wanted to do something nice for you," I sigh. "You did good, princess," he says, patting my hand. "Thanks Al. What are the plans for the rest of the evening?"

"The guys are on their way over," he replies. I nod, "Oh cool."

A few moments later they burst into the room. "Hey shorty," Chad says, reaching over and putting me in a headlock. I don't even squirm, knowing if I do, I'll only be trapped longer.

"She's too smart for me," Chad sighs, but he still decides to hold me in his grasp for a while longer. Once I'm finally released, he reaches over to ruffle my hair, "Go away now shorty."

"Chad, you're such a weirdo," I sigh. "And you little girl, are a pain," he fires back. "I hate you," I mutter approaching Caleb. "Love you too!" Chad shouts at me.

"Hey kid," he grins wildly at me. "Hiya," I say. He reaches over, and pulls his arm around me, "Feels like I just left this place." I giggle and nod, "You did you grammar freak."

"Joey!" I exclaim excitedly. "Mia!" He says in exactly the same way. "And how is the princess doing?" He asks. "Good now that I'm no longer in a headlock."

"I can help you with that," Chad says prancing over. "Please just leave me alone," I sigh. He shakes his head, "No can do, sour patch." I feel his arm yet again around my throat. This time I do struggle, playing along with his game.

"Let. Me. Go," I protest, wildly flailing my arms. "You know my policy," he says calmly. I stay still for a few short moments and I'm set free.

"Why do you hate me?" I ask him. "I don't, I'm just showing my love," he replies, with a toothy grin. "You must love me a ton then," I reply. "Oh I do," is his only response.

"You're a weirdo," I decide. "What are we gonna do with you?" Chad asks, raising his water bottle in defense. He tosses it at my face.

"Thanks for that," I sigh. He ruffles my hair, "Anytime." I shake my head, as I walk over to Alan.

"Is Chad being a pest?" He asks. I nod, "Yes." Alan sighs, "Don't worry bout him, pretty girlie, he's always a pest."

"I heard that!" Chad yells. "Oh, you were meant to, buddy!" He says.

We decide to pull out some old board games. The five of us play, me always being on a team with Alan.

"What should we play next?" Alan gestures towards the pile that's now down to CandyLand, and Chutes & Ladders.

"CandyLand," Chad says, "So I can crush Mia!" I laugh slightly, "There's something seriously wrong with you."

"My dear, there's always been something wrong with him," Caleb chuckles, reaching over to pat my shoulder. "It just took you long to figure it out," Joey says, playfully punching my arm.

"My Mia," Alan says, "we'll play with the green pawn."

"But I wanted green!" Chad and Joey both exclaim at the same time. I turn to Alan, and we he winks. We then back to them, "Too bad!"

Caleb quickly snags the red piece, leaving the blue and yellow ones laying there. "Blue!" Joey says, pulling the blue pawn and wrapping it in a fist. "Yellow is yucky," Chad grumbles.

We play the entire game and Alan and I win. "Haha Chad, in your face!" I do my victory dance, and stick my tongue out at him.

The guys all tell me goodbye, and head home, since it is kinda late. "You doing okay, kid?" Alan asks. I nod slightly, "Yeah, I'm all good."

He nods, and stands up, "I'm gonna take the girls to bed." I nod, "I think I'm gonna go to, night Alan." He leans over and hugs me, "Night princess, thanks for everything you did today." I grin, "No problem Big Al."
