Chapter 10: The Second First Day

The students flood the hall walking in, and sitting at their respective houses, before quietly waiting for the new batch of first-years. Darco, Pansy, Blaise, and Theo hadn't found me yet and were walking in.

"Kaiyo!", Pansy yells hugging me.

"Pansy you saw him not even 2 weeks ago", Draco says chuckling.

"Your hair got longer", Theo says walking up.

"Yes, I'm planning to grow it out", I say my hand coming up to the back of my nape half covered by my hair.

"You'd look good with long hair, who knows maybe I'll try it myself", Blaise says pretending to think about it interrupted by a black blur jumping from my arms into his chest. "Kuro! I missed ya you little menace!", Blaise says holding Kuro above his head.

"Come on the ceremony is about to start", Draco says. They all sit down beside me and we watch the sorting ceremony start.

The redhead from the bookshop was sorted into Gryffindor. A Weasley tradition I suppose. I did notice the disappearance of Potter and the other Weasley, and it seems like Granger was as well by the way she was looking around.

Dumbledore introduced Lockhart as the new Defense against the Dark arts teacher and I could swear the entirety of the female community of Hogwarts sighed in unison. Granger was even in awe of the man. The 'best student' of Hogwarts believes this phony!

The rest of the ceremony was no different from last year. We left the common room once everyone was done.

"The password is pureblood", The perfect said leading us into the common room. "First years stay with us, everyone else goes to your rooms and get settled in". We left for our respective rooms. Blaise, Draco, Theo, and I looked for the room with our nameplates on the door.

"Over here!", Theo says waving us over to a room with our names on it. "We're all roommates again!".

The night ended similarly to last year except Blaise didn't fight Kuro for a bed. I had the bed at the very end, furthest away from the bathroom. Draco was the middle-left bed next to Theo which left Blaise with the bed closest to the bathroom. The night ended as we all settled into our rooms.

=====================================================

We were in herbology class. The sun was still rising and the greenhouse was packed with Griffindors and Slytherins.

"Welcome to Greenhouse Three, Second Years. Today, we will bere-potting Mandrakes. Now, who here can tell me the properties of the Mandrake?", I was about to raise my hand, but Granger beats me to it. "Yes, Miss Granger?", Professor Sprout asks calling on Granger.

"Mandrake, or Mandragora, is used to return those transfigured to their original state. It's also quite dangerous. The Mandrake's cry is fatal to anyone who hears it", Granger answers.

"Excellent. Ten points toGryffindor. As our Mandrakes are only seedlings, their cries won't kill yet. However, they will knock you out for several hours. That is why I have provided each of you with earmuffs. If you would then", Professor Sprout says gesturing to the earmuffs in front of us. I had a pair of black earmuffs. Draco had a pair of white earmuffs. He pointed to the earmuffs and then to my hair. I assume he was saying that it was the same color as my hair. I gave a soft giggle and turned back to my pot.

====================================================

Lunch came around after Herbology. Draco was ranting about how the baby Mandrake bit him.

"The bloody thing bit me!", Draco said.

"To be fair you put your finger in its mouth", Theo says looking up from his book his elbows propped up on the table.

"It was funny though Dray, you have to admit", Pansy says giggling as Draco grumbles about how we took the plant's side. Blaise was laughing beside her as an owl flies down into the Great Hall swooping down to the Gryffindor's table landing in a bowl of food.

"Heads up, everyone. Weasley's gotten himself a Howler", a Gryffindor says. A howler?

"RONALD WEASLEY! HOW DARE YOU STEAL THAT CAR! I AM ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED! YOUR FATHER'S NOW FACING AN INQUIRY AT WORK AND IT'S ENTIRELY YOUR FAULT! IF YOU PUT ANOTHER TOE OUT OF LINE WE'LL BRING YOU STRAIGHT HOME!", the yelling voice of Mrs. Weasley softened. "Oh, and Ginny dear.Congratulations on making Gryffindor. Your father and I are so proud".

I could see the youngest Weasley visibly shrink from the sudden attention and embarrassment. The red letter that was screaming blow a raspberry at Weasley and tore itself up leaving only scraps of paper behind.

"Serves them right", Draco says leaning on his palm.

"They broke wizarding law, they should've been expelled", Theo says closing his book and taking a bite of the toast on his plate.

"Honestly, Dumbledore's biased opinions couldn't be more clear", Pansy says stretching.

"We should get moving if we don't want to be late for our next class", I say getting up and collecting my books. I wasn't excited about Lockhart's class, but I'd rather not listen to Weasley's pity party.

"What do you all think of Lockhart?", Blaise asked his arms stretched up.

"I don't understand why all the girls are so into him, " Pansy shrugs.

"His books aren't consistent. His writing is switching between perspectives and the stories are questionable", Theo says flipping through one of the books we were all required to buy.

"My father says he's a fraud, and I agree", Draco says.

"What about you Kaiyo?", Blaise asked me.

"He... makes me unsettled", I say with hesitance.

"What do you mean unsettled?", Draco asked.

"He gives me a bad feeling", I say opening the door to the DADA classroom. The room was covered in paintings of Lockhart. Each looked worse than the last. We took the seats in the back where there were fewer paintings as students began to pile into the classroom. The girls were giggling like crazy as the guys were grumbling about having to attend. When the classroom filled up the door at the end of the stairway in the front of the class burst open.

"Let me introduce you to your new Defense Against the Dark Arts Teacher. Me. Gilderoy Lockhart, Order of Merlin, Third Class, Honorary Member of the Dark Force Defense League, and five times winner of Witch Weekly's Most- Charming-Smile Award -- But I don't talk about that. I didn't get rid of the Bandon Banshee by smiling at her!", Lockhart says posing in between his words.

"I see you've all bought a complete set of my books. Well done. I thought we'd start today with a little quiz. Nothing to worry about. Just to check how well you've read them, how much you've taken in...", he says as if we had a choice. Lockhart passed out papers with ridiculous questions that had nothing to do with the subject.

"What the?", Draco said from his eat next to me. "None of these questions have anything to do with Defense against the Dark Arts!". I was no different. I knew he was an imbecile, but this is ridiculous. Yet, something about him told me to be careful.

We wrote out their answers before handing them in. Draco chose to read a book from his sachel while I laid my head onto his shoulder and closed my eyes.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Draco looked to his right as he felt an extra weight on his shoulder. he looked to see the white-haired male sleeping, his head on his shoulder. He stiffened up not wanting to wake up the boy. He heard snickering as he looked at the sound to see Pansy and Blaise giggling at the sight.

Draco glared at the two especially as they made kissy faces at the blonde. Draco long excepted that he had a crush on the boy and the rest of the group never let him live it down. Whenever Kaiyo wasn't in the room they would tease him about how he blushed whenever he was in close contact with the male.

He looked away back to Kaiyo who was breathing softly, his chest slowly rising and falling. His face was relaxed, something that was normally rare. Draco's content ignored a certain pair of green eyes from across the room.

Harry didn't know why, but he was drawn to the boy. Harry was mesmerized by the boy and how he held himself. Kaiyo held himself with confidence and grace. His every movement seemed calculated and careful.

That night in the forest made him more interested in Kaiyo. How he could stand up and fight Voldemort, while he was frozen in fear. How he fought in fluid motion as if a dance. Harry since then kept an eye on Kaiyo for what reason, even he didn't know. He found himself staring at him whenever he was lost in thought.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Tut, tut. Hardly any of you remembered my favorite color is lilac. But Miss Hermione Granger knew that my secret ambition is to rid the world of evil and market my own range of hair care potions. Good girl", Lockhart says as I glare at the man. Mori was bad, but he had intelligence that made him vital to the Port Mafia. This man was an idiot with fewer brains than the mindless drones in the lower levels.

"Now... be warned! It is my job to arm you against the foulest creatures known to wizardkind! You may find yourself facing your own worst fears in this room. Know only that no harm can befall you whilst I am here...", Lockhart moves to the cage in the middle of the desk in the front of the room. "I must ask you not to scream. It might provoke them". Lockhart throws off the tarp to reveal.

"Cornish pixies?", a Gryffindor says with a laugh. I've seen them in the forest. They aren't dangerous, but they are annoying.

"Freshly caught Cornish pixies", Lockhart says proudly as a Gryffindor laughs. "Laugh if you will, Mr. Finnegan, but pixies can be devilishly tricky little blighters. Let's see what you make of them now!", Lockhart says as he releases the pixes from their cage.

The pixies start to torment the students as they stole books, and pulled at their hair, and two of them lifted Longbottom onto the chandelier. The pixies tried to come closer to us but stayed away.

"Come on now, round them up, round them up. They're only pixies", Lockhart says charismatically pulling out his wand. "Peskipiski Pesternomi!". As a shock to no one the spell fails and he has his wand stolen by the pixies and thrown out the window.

"Get away!", Pansy yells at two pixes who start pulling at her hair.

"Oi! Let go!", Theo says as a pixie tries to pull a book from his grasp.

"I'll ask you all to just nip the rest of them back into their cage", Lockhart says as he retreats into his office.

"Enough, Immobilus!", I yell out freezing the pixies where they stood.

"Why is it always me?", Longbottom says hanging from the chandelier.

"Can someone get Longbottom down!", I yell leaving the room.

"Where are you going!", Granger yells as I open the door.

"I will not clean up that man's mess. He is the teacher we are his students. We shouldn't need to fix his mistakes", I say walking out.

"How is that idiot our teacher!", Blaise says fixing his uniform.

"How could Dumbledore hire that oaf!", Theo says flipping through his book to make sure nothing was damaged.

"I'm leaving", I say walking out the door into the forest.

"And where are you going?", Draco yells out.

"The forest", I say entering the forest. I heard running footsteps before turning around to see Draco running up to me.

"I'm coming with you", Draco says. I raise my eyebrow in confusion. He's terrified of the forest. "Don't look at me like that. Someone needs to make sure you remember to get back in time for the feast".

I just smile at him before heading further in. I was originally heading into the heart of the forest, but I can't take Draco in. Instead, we head to a small clearing that had flowers growing in the center. The trees let the sun through causing the small patch of forest that be lush and green.

"I didn't know this was here", Draco says as he makes his way into the sunny patch of grass in the middle of the forest.

"I found it in the summer", I say laying down on the sunny patch of grass.

We stayed there for the rest of the day. The forest animals started to come out, they were curious about Draco. I came into the forest often the animals were used to me and Kuro. A fox with antlers was the first to come out. Draco was scared at first gripping my arm before he realized that the fox wasn't dangerous. The animals slowly came out and enjoyed with sunlight with us. Eventually, Kuro came out along with Fluffy.

We stayed for a long time until the sun started to set. Draco woke me up when the sky was a brilliant shade of purple and pink fading into an orange hue. The fox tried to get us to stay pulling at the ends of his pants. Draco bent down and gave the fox a head pat before explaining that we had to leave.

That moment was the happiest I had ever seen Draco. His platinum hair mirrored the sky of the setting sun. His eyes seemed to shine.

I snapped out of my trance when he grabbed my hand.

"Come on we don't want to be late", Draco says pulling me along the way we came.

"Hai", I responded walking alongside him.
