2 centuries have passed since the famous Battle of Hogwarts. In those centuries, muggles have learned of the existence of magic. There have been many conflicts, naturally, but in the end, one thing brought both peoples together: space exploration.

When the first muggle scientific research vessel was launched into space, wizards and muggles alike wanted to know about everything it found. This gave rise to an entire generation of young witches and wizards who wanted desperately to go into space and see how magic would work up there, as well as to find new magic civilizations. This was the beginning of the Intergalactic Society of Magic.

The ISM has been going for forty years strong, and has six members: humans (obviously), Perronians, Seyans, Kaovinians, and Etrinites. Naturally, they know of other magic societies, but those just aren't in the Society for whatever reason. The Society also has good relations and alliances with non-magic civilizations; they just don't communicate much.

Meanwhile, the muggles and wizards are much more connected because of new breakthroughs and an open channel between them for learning about each other and having a better understanding of each other. Of course, there are still many people who agree with the ancient "anti-wizard" and "anti-muggle" ways, but those people are few and far between.

Over those forty years, the magic community has made many huge leaps. However, there is still much to be learned and discovered!

The year is 2292, and the Explorer Starship Merlin is getting ready to begin her maiden voyage into the great unknown!
