Paul's truck pulled up beside Skylar's house. She scanned the area around the house, frowning when she didn't see Charlie's car parked. Knowing that he must still be at the Clearwater's she turned fully around to look at Paul, only to see that he was already staring at her.
Clearing her throat, Skylar spoke up. "Thanks for everything, you know, that you did today. You um, really helped me get through the day."
"Of course," Paul mumbled, tucking a stray piece of hair behind her ear. "Anytime."
Nodding, she ducked her head down. "Are you sure you don't want to tell me, like, what you were trying to say earlier?"
He took a deep breath, chuckling slightly before giving her a smirk. "Yeah. I'll find some time to tell you. I promise," he breathed out.
"Okay," she agreed, smiling back up at him. "I guess I'll wait to find out." Laughing, he nodded his head. "Yeah, I guess you'll have to."
Both became silent – too caught up in looking at each other to say anything. Slowly, Paul began to lean in, brushing her lips with his own before chuckling.
"What?" Skylar breathed out, heart fluttering when her lips moved against his slightly.
"I can hear your heart beating, Sky," he whispered back, a smile stretching across his face. His eyes flickered down to her lips before staring in her eyes again.
She blushed slightly, tilting her head. "Oh."
He barely nodded his head – the slight movement giving Skylar butterflies again – before fully connecting their lips, slanting his head as he did so. Skylar froze in shock for a small moment before fully returning the kiss. Gradually, Paul pulled back only to peck her lips one, two, three times more. Fulling retreating, he cupped her face with his hand and gave her a small squeeze.
Laughing quietly, her face broke out in a wide smile. "Do you, um... Do you want to come in?"
"I'm definitely coming in." He smirked.
Rolling her eyes, she looked back, her eyes widening when she noticed Bella's truck parked behind them. "How long have they been there?"
Paul snickered, motioning towards the old truck. "Oh, I'm sure Jake will have nightmares on how cheesy that was."
"He saw?" She shrieked.
"Sure did, baby." He gave her a wink. His face quickly dropped as he looked over Skylar's shoulder. "Stay in the car."
"What?" Skylar asked, confused. Turning her head, she saw Bella running towards the house only for Jake to grab her arm. "What in the hell is she doing?" She opened the passenger door to get out, yelping when an arm shot out across her and slammed the door shut.
"I'm getting you out of here," Paul said quietly, moving quickly to start up the truck.
Stopping him, Skylar stared at him. "Why? What's wrong?"
"Vampire," he growled out, shaking his arm out of her grip and turning it on.
"Vampire?" She shot around, whipping her head around to see Jake walking back to them, frustrated. "How do you know?"
He clenched his jaw. "I can smell it." Paul growled again when he saw Skylar trying to get out of the truck again. "I'm getting you out of here now, Skylar."
She shook her head furiously. "Bella's in there. I have to make sure she's okay."
"Right now I don't care about Bella. Jake can handle her. I'm getting you out of that bloodsucker's range."
Skylar scoffed, throwing her hands up. "Paul, I have to make sure she's okay."
He glared at her. "I'm not letting you go in there."
"Why? Why do you care about me going in there but not Bella?" Furious when he didn't answer, she pushed his shoulder. "She's my sister! I'm going in there to make sure that's she still alive."
"No!" He snarled lowly.
"Why?"
Paul slammed his hands against the steering wheel. "Because you're my imprint, dammit!" Taking a couple of deep breathes, he leaned forward on the wheel before straightening back up. "You're my imprint," he softly repeated, not looking at her.
"I'm your..." she drawled out, shocked. Gulping, she nodded her head. "Okay. We can talk about this later... But I need to see if Bella's okay." Quickly shoving the door open, she leaped out of the truck, ignoring Paul's shouting and ran for the front door. Flinging it open, she frantically looked around. Striding around the corner, she froze when she saw Bella sitting down, a female beside her. "Alice."
The said vampire leisurely turned around and faced the seething girl. "Skylar. It's nice to see you again."
"Oh, spare me the freaking formalities. What the hell are you doing back?"
"Skylar!" Bella scolded, only to be stopped by Alice. "No, it's okay. I deserve it."
Skylar scoffed. "You deserve more than just a few harsh words, bloodsucker."
Alice's eyebrows shot up. "You know?"
The human girl glared at the vampire. "Why are you back here?"
"I saw Bella jumping off of a cliff," Alice muttered. "I came to see for myself." Skylar shook her head. "Oh you came for the funeral. How nice! Really, you have outdone yourself!"
"Skylar that's enough!" Bella shot up, defending her friend. "They had to leave."
"And left you in a crippling depression! What a true freaking friend," Skylar shouted back.
The three of them were interrupted by the front door being thrown open, revealing Paul and Jake. Paul visibly calmed when he saw Skylar, quickly approaching her and encasing her tightly in his arms. "I had to make sure. I had to see that you were okay."
"I'm fine," Skylar muttered, wrapping her own arms around him, hugging him just as tight.
"Bella... Werewolves are not good company to keep," Alice whispered. Paul tensed up, snarling at the vampire in front of him. "Speak for yourself, bloodsucker."
Alice shook her head and stood up, facing the two wolves. "I'm not going to hurt them."
"No, you're just a harmless Cullen," Jacob scoffed. "We're talking about the other bloodsucker who tried to kill Bella because of you."
"Victoria," Alice asked, turning back towards Bella.
Bella nodded. "Yeah, Victoria's been around."
"I didn't see her," Alice began. "I didn't see you get pulled out of the water either. I can't see past you and your pack of mutts."
Paul growled. "Do not get me angry." Skylar placed a hand on his chest, stopping him from attacking the vampire. "Paul, stop. Stop."
Alice backed away as well, looking between the two human girls and the two werewolves. "I'll give you a minute."
Skylar looked up at Paul before glancing at Bella. "And... we'll be upstairs." Grabbing Paul's hand, she pulled him towards the stairs. Tugging him up, they reached her room and she shut the door behind them. Taking a deep breath, she turned to face him. "So..."
"Don't." Paul trembled, clenching his eyes shut. "I told you to stay in the truck."
Skylar threw her hands up. "I had to make sure that Bella was okay!"
"I know. I'm keep telling myself that to calm down. But it's not working."
She went up to Paul, wrapping both hands around his arms. "Hey. I'm alright now. I promise."
He tightly covered her smaller frame with his own, placing his head into the crook of her neck. Inhaling deeply a few times, he raised his head but still kept her close to him. "So. Do you want to talk about it?"
Skylar bit her lip. "Right. The imprinting."
Paul nodded, looking her in the eyes. "I didn't mean for it to come out the way, I promise. I was gonna tell you better, in a more... romantic way." As he explained, a light blush covered his face, making Skylar coo. Swatting her hands away playfully, he smiled at her. "Stop."
"Or what?" Skylar challenged, smirking up at the taller boy.
"Oh you're gonna get it!" Paul reached for her but was stopped when someone pounded on the door. "Dammit. What?" He shouted at the other side.
The door opened with Jacob on the other side. "It's Edward. He's going to kill himself... and Bella is leaving to save him."
