A Slippery Slope

Feyre's POV

---

After a long night of torturing, I woke up to the smell of trees and grass. I wasn't sure I was still in the Summer Court anymore.

Eric walked in, his pitch black hair offsetting the pale colored tent behind him. "Look who's finally awake." He said with a sly smile.

I groaned and tugging against my restraints even though I was well aware of the fact that it would do nothing. My raw wrists were numb at this point so it didn't really matter.

Eric walked over to the wooden table I was laying on, my blood coating everything. "I will make you mine, one way or another." He said, picking up a knife. "It's just a matter of you coming voluntarily or not." His smile reappeared.

"I c-can't. I can't hurt Rhys even if he is gone." I said in a depressing tone.

" Your 'mate' is dead, Feyre. Gone. I'm not sure how many time I have to tell you. It's just you and I." Eric said, plunging the knife into my thigh, twisting.

I let out a blood curdling scream that could be heard for miles.

A few seconds later a loud alarm sounded through out the camp they obviously were in. It was different from the sounds of the insects buzzing in the moonlight or the ones the bigger animals made, looking for prey at the crack of dawn. No, this was a warning sign. Had my friends finally come for me? But they couldn't have. They were all dead. I saw it with my own two eyes.

Eric swore under his breath, and then ran out of the tent a few moments later, leavinf me all by myself.

I screamed for the pain of losing, I thrashed against my restraints but they held firm. Hot tears burned down the side of my face. I just wanted to go home and mourn the loss of my friends and my family. Cass, Az, Rhys, Luicen. All dead. Mor too. I can't pinpoint when they died but I was their to witness every single one of them dying. I don't think I could ever forget that.

A few minutes pass by as I continue to scream out loud. I hear many people rushing outside of my tent, running and rushing off to where ever the alarm had sent them. I pulled harder at the binds on my hands but it was no use. I laid back on the filthy table.

The sounds of screaming infultrated my daydreams of a escape. I looked to the right of the tent and blood was cakes on the outside, seeping through towards the inside. Almost like it was out to get me.

Men were screaming everywhere, which in turn, only furthered my panic. I tugged harder and harder as the screams of death filled the silence.

The back corner grew darker and it was difficult to see since eric had left the spolt light right on me, shining in my eyes. After a moment of trying to get myself oriented, Az sttepped out of the shadows, cautiously walked towards the grime filled table that I laid on.

No. This can't be happening. He was dead. Azriel wasn't supposed to be here. I was there when he died. I saw him die. I buried him, along with the others.

I started crying even harder. "You're not supposed to be here! You died! You're dead! Get away from me!" I screamed at the ghost of my long dead friend.

Az ran towards the table now and started undoing my restraints. First my hands, then my feet.

"Feyre, it's me. I never died." He said, trying to put my mind at ease.

"N-no. Eric said you died. I was there!" I screamed. A look of panic flashed across his face as I turned around and ran out of the tent. The moonlight cascaded across everything in sight. Blood and bodies lined the forest floor and even the insects were silent.

I looked around and took off in the opposite direction, throwing off my trail. I ran like my life depended on it. I only got forty meters before I dropped down and hid behind a huge root of a tree. I tried my best to slow the bleeding that I was now coming from my wound from this morning. Was this even real? Should I even be trying?

I groaned in pained and tore off part of the pants Eric had given me and wrapped it around my leg. I hid there for awhile until I was sure, they wouldn't be coming down this path anymore, trying to find me.

I slowly stood up, gripping the side of the tree for support. I started walking down the path, my limp clearly evident. The darkness was pulsating all around me, calling out for me. I walked until I came to a clearing. Trees surrounded on all sides, the grass rising to my waist.

Az and Cass were waiting on the other side. It looked like an illusion. I locked eyes with Cassian. In that moment I realized two things. I missed my bestfriend more that I ever thought I'd be able to and secondly, no matter he or Az were now dead, I wanted to go tell them goodbye, hold them one last time.

I started running across the clearing towards, Cassian and he the same. I was about 45 yards away from him when Eric winnowed infront of me, panting and bloodied. The war general ran faster, but Eric didn't even notice him.

"You little bitch." He scolded. His hand went directly to my throat and started to squeeze. I let out a gasp and he squeezed harder. I scratched at his hands but he didn't let up. Black spots swirled around in my vision.

The pain let up when I'd realized Eric's head fell off his shoulders. His body crumpled to the ground as I noticed Cassian standing on the other side, not even panting. He looked and me and before I could fall to the ground, he reached out and brought me to his chest, holding me steady, protecting me from any other monsters that would come my way.

"Cassian.." I started, but he shushed me.

"No Cassian. We don't have much time. I'm going to wake up soon and I just wanted to let you know how much I love you. Thank you for everything you've taught me over the years and for accepting me, the broken girl you once knew." I said, trying to hold back the tears.

"What do you mean Feyre? I'm not going anywhere." He said, concerned.

"You're dead. You're dead and I watched you die. I'm just content that I got to see you one last time before.." I trailed off.

"I'm living breathing in the flesh, darling. Sorry to break it to you." A sly grin slowly creeping across his face. But a loock of confusion and hurt crossed his face as Az appeared behind him and I started screaming at them both.

"You're dead! NO! You're dead, you two! I watched you die! I buried you both since everyone else was dead!" I screamed.

Az and Cass passed a look of urgency between each other and looked back at me.

"Feyre..." Cass started.

I slowly started backing away, trying to run away from the ghosts of my two dead friends. I turned and ran, only to find myself trapped in someone's arms. But not just anyone. Rhys.

"Feyre..." Rhys started but everything else was cut off as I passed out, collapsing into his arms.
