Just Over There

After Wilbur's steady recovery things had become somewhat normal. Somewhat. It was becoming a new normal. Tommy was getting to the end of the term, Phil and Kristin had made it official together, Techno and Wilbur had been making good money. It was better. Better than ever. None of the boys thought it could get better. And somehow it was going to.

Tommy's birthday was rolling around quickly. The blonde hadn't told the adults, but Wilbur had kindly informed them. One day away from his birthday and the family was putting preparations into plan. Wilbur and Techno were trying to do a cake for their little brother as they could never do so before. This was their 3rd attempt that day. 1st batch was set on fire and the 2nd containing too much baking soda. The brothers had laughed off each attempt, but their souls grew heavier with disappointment.

"How hard is a fucking cake?!" Techno plunged a knife into the cake which actually looked extremely satisfying. Wilbur had gone quiet and that was never a good thing. Techno placed a hand on the brunette's back. "Hey we got this. 3rd times a charm?" Wilbur nodded holding back persistent tears. Techno noticed and pulled him into a hug soothing him with quiet words. After another dozen failed cakes, they just went and sat on the couch and moped in their own self-loathing. That's when the adults arrived home.

"What happened?" Kristin giggled seeing both boys lying dramatically on the couch. The teenagers groaned and sighed. She smiled ruffling their hair. "How's the cake?"

"Ha!" Phil's voice came from the kitchen. "You guys never make cake before? There's like 12 cakes in the bin!" Both teenagers pouted with sad faces.

"It's unbearable!" Wilbur commented. "The trauma we have faced at that benchtop slaving away!" Techno nodded sombrely.

"Well," Kristin sighed. "He definitely doesn't come home in a couple hours. 3 maybe?" Both teens raced to the kitchen their low moments now out of their mind as they raced to make their brother's cake for the 100th time. Both adults laughed but left them to it preparing things for tomorrow. After 2 hours and 36 minutes the cake was done. And they speedran the icing. A knock came from the door and the two boys were quick to hide it in the fridge, but Tommy never looked around cause he never expected anything. And he secretly knew his brothers always tried so hard for his birthday.

Phil answered the door and greeted the 10-year-old with a smile. Tommy hugged him and raced to his room to do homework. Phil smiled and watched the two other boys go to help him with his homework. He then entered his room to find Kristin getting the gifts ready for tomorrow morning. He smiled and lay a kiss on her face. She returned the smile and they spoke softly. Meanwhile Tommy and his brothers were doing homework. English in fact. This was primarily Techno's subject along with art. Wilbur with history and geography. Tommy with maths and science.

"So you did more spelling today?" Techno asked him. Tommy nodded and both elders looked through his book to quiz him. "Spell, troublesome."

"T-r-o-u-b-l-e-s-o-m-e," Tommy sighed. "Why is it always that one first?"

"Because you are troublesome," Wilbur commented, and Techno snickered. "Spell, child."

"That's enough!" Tommy commented as they all laughed for a bit. As the quiz was resumed, they were nearly halfway down the page now.

"Spell...." Wilbur looked at the word for a few moments. "Hand... ker? Handker... seef?" Wilbur looked puzzled at the word for a few moments.

"Wil?" Techno looked just as puzzled. "Ya right?" The brunette nodded. Techno saw the word. "Handkerchief." Tommy did not in turn spell the word out and watched as Wilbur looked to the floor possibly feeling awful, he couldn't pronounce something.

"Sorry..." the brunette whispered. Tommy sniffed feeling tears come to his eyes.

"It's not your fault Wil," Techno comforted. Tommy tackled his older brother in a hug. Afterall, it wasn't his fault he didn't know how to pronounce something. The rest of the afternoon and night flew by quickly. Soon the boys had been put to bed and Tommy lay awake not feeling tired. He was thinking. Thinking about what had happened.

"Hey Wil?" Tommy whispered. "I was wondering if-" He stopped seeing both his brothers were asleep. He figured another time and rolled over. And yet he couldn't get the question out of his mind. Did his brothers not get as much schooling as he thought. He thought they had at the orphanage. He shrugged it off and left a mental note for later.

The rest of the house awoke early to surprise the youngest. The tip-toed on egg shells to get things ready before he went to school. Phil was preparing Tommy's favourite breakfast as Kristin was getting things set up. Techno was upstairs doing something else, and Wilbur was finishing off card details. Soon the blonde had awoken and made his way downstairs already dressed for school to find everyone and everything.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" they all yelled in union. Tommy smiled, quite embarrassed. Tommy looked at his brother's who gave him smirks of glee.

"Come on breakfast is ready!" Phil commanded as they sat at the table munching down their food. As soon as they were finished the boys cleared the table and Kristin grabbed the presents and card.

"We probably don't have time for this," Tommy tried to escape but Phil had trapped him.

"It's best you open these now," the elder smirked and Tommy was bright red as a card and box was put in front of him. He opened the card first having some overwhelming tears brought to his eyes. He held them back long enough they seeped back into his skull. But he was not ready for the box. He ripped the wrapping off gently, in other words, not like a child. And it was a box. Seeming confused he opened the box to find papers. He looked to Phil who nodded.

"Read them," Phil whispered, and Tommy picked up the first paper. His heart dropped. These papers, he didn't understand them, but he could understand som part.

Orphanage

Tommy

Adopted by:

Philza

Tommy gaped slowly at the paper before looking at Phil with teary eyes. The adult nodded slowly. Tommy's hand flew to his mouth as tears poured from his eyes. He sobbed for a few seconds before looking at the other papers. 2 more. Again the same as the first one, he didn't understand it, but managed a few words.

Enrolment

Technoblade

Enrolment

Wilbur

The blonde turned to his brothers who looked confused as if it were a surprise to them as well. Tommy pressed the paper towards them, and they read it, eyes widening. Tommy grabbed the last paper and just like the others, he only understood some.

Sold

Philza + Kristin

Tommy looked to the adults who smiled kindly to him. Tears streamed down everyone's faces now and they joined in a group hug.

"W-What does this mean?" Tommy sniffed looking at Phil. The blonde smiled.

"This means," the adult paused. "We are all officially family, your brothers are going to finish their education, and we are moving to a much nicer place." Techno looked at the floor.

"Money," was all he said before meeting Phil's eyes.

"From the left overs of Wil's treatment and savings."

"Ohmygosh..." Wilbur wiped his face.

"You boys better get ready quickly for school," Kristin said with a smirk. Both teens rushed upstairs and started getting ready in appropriate clothing. The walk to the school was nice. Walking like a family like that. Sure it would be the only time the parents would walk them to school because it would be embarrassing otherwise. As they waved goodbye and entered the school Tommy was stopped by some kid.

"Hey orphan freak!" the bully grinned, and Tommy sighed. "Where are your parents you freak?!"
