~ Surprise~
Annabeth's Point of View
Slam.
Britney sure was harsh on her locker door. This happened everyday. She'd get upset over how she couldn't get one of the jocks to fall for her fake charm, and take it out on her locker and minions.
Now she's starting to sound like the Queen Bee of high school, right? That's because she is.
I sighed as I pulled out my binder and a file from my locker. Way to start a day. Piper wasn't here yet, and I really didn't want to walk to class alone. Shit happens here.
After the Giant War, all of us split as Chiron suggested we should finish education, and I agreed whole heartedly. Education isn't something you can play around with.
That was until I realised we'd be split apart. Percy and I will be going to different schools.
Why? Because Athena decided to make a choice of schools. And seven demigods in one place is too dangerous.
So here I am, in my school with Piper and Jason while Percy goes to Goode. I'm two and a half hours away from camp and three hours away from Percy. We're in a boarding school. Yeah, pretty much all options are out of reach.
Percy and I Iris Message each other almost everyday, but we haven't talked in two days. I wonder what's up.
"Hey, Annabeth."
Piper's voice pried me out of my thoughts.
"Hey Pipes, where's Jason?"
"Oh, there's a new student... he's got showing around duty"
"Oh, okay. I guess you're stuck with me, then?"
Piper chuckled, "Gladly "
I took her hand and walked to homeroom.
•••••
First half was usual. Jason joined us from 3rd period, not talking about the new student at all. I didn't really bother. Lunch was when things got interesting.
As we reached the mess, Jason and Piper kept scanning the hall, now that was something out of the usual...
"Hey, Jase, something up?"
"Uh-um, why would you ask?"
"You're not acting usual" I said, shrugging.
"It's nothing, really."
I gave him one last glare, and let it go.
The three of us walked to the queue in front of the food counters, word was around we had pizza today.
Not gonna lie, school had good food.
After ten painful minutes it was finally my turn. I didn't waste ten minutes, no. I was thinking about Percy and how he might be doing. That doesn't count as waste, or does it?
As I turned to the lady at the counter, she handed over the two pizza slices to me.
"Plea-"
"Could you maybe give her some extra olives please?"
Okay, I was rudely interrupted.
But... where had I heard that voice before... it couldn't be...
No, no you're being stupid, Annabeth. Don't even-
But it doesn't hurt to turn around and see- also, who else knew of her obsession?
As soon as I turned, I was met with the startling, bright, sea green eyes that I had missed so much.
"Percy?" I barely whispered.
"Hey to you too, Wise Girl."
Oh my, he was actually here.
Percy Jackson was here.
Her Seaweed Brain was here.
"Hello kiss?" His voice floated over her thoughts.
"I-"
I just grabbed his wrist and pulled him away.
We moved out of the cafeteria, and I pulled him towards the staircase.
"You're here? You're really here? But... how did you... my mom would never..."
She was silenced by a kiss pressed firmly to her lips.
"Yes, Annabeth, I am really here. And yes, Athena allowed it, and before you ask, I'm here to stay." Percy said, after pulling away.
"You- what?"
"You heard me."
I couldn't resist, I just pushed myself into his warmth, resting my head in the crook of his neck, wrapping my arms around his neck. His arms automatically went around my waist, and held me tight.
"I missed you so much, Seaweed brain,"
"Me too, Wise girl"
"The nightmares... they are so much worse without you here..."
"Do Piper and Jason know?"
"They never needed to."
Somethings were best kept a secret.
"Let's head back to the cafeteria? I'm sorta hungry." Percy said sheepishly.
"I've got a Jason to kill, so sure."
Just as they started to move to the cafeteria, I stopped Percy,
"Just promise me something"
"Anything."
"Never ever leave me."
Percy let his lips curve into a smile.
"You are not getting away from me wise girl, never again."
Just like that, I knew I was safe again. Not from monsters, I could take care of them myself, but from the world. From people. From judging.
I guess I can stop hating surprises.
I also forgot all about the olives. It was worth it.
