The sun was high above the mountain top as Abigail laid stretched out of her family's back lawn. She sighed turning towards the hillside, trying to figure out what to do for the day. Her siblings were out for the day and her parents left to do some grocery shopping at the local market.

“Ugh.” She said exhaling an exasperated sigh.

Her eldest brother Malcolm was with his newly pregnant wife Prudence, at a doctors appointment. His twin Nathaniel, who was the first to leave the home, was with his wife Crystal and their triplets; Liam, Brian and Mary. Her eldest sister Loralie was out with her husband Brock, who were taking their children Riley and Clayton to Angel Square.

Though she enjoyed being alone, she also disliked it at the same time. She pushed her brunette hair out if face, replacing it with her arm as she blocked out the blinding light of the sun. She got up off of the long grass and walked inside, her bare feet feeling the ground below her. She opened the oak door and moved along the marble floor. A chill went down her spine as she made it further into the house.

She rubbed her left arm, that had been wrapped in a bandage after she fell on her arm during combat training. Growing up in the shadow world wasn't easy and Abigail couldn't wait to live a life of her own. She knelt down to pick up her family's Miniature Pinscher Gizmo, with her on good arm. She brought Gizmo up to her room and sat him down on her bed, while she went over to her wardrobe.

“Abigail, where are you?”

“I'm in my room.” She yelled in response.

She heard the pitter patter of little feet, coming up the stairs and she went over to open up the door. Gizmo began to bark as the Riley and Clayton came running into her room, jumping up on her bed.

“Did you have fun at the Square?” She asked them.

“Yeah, Daddy fell in a puddle.” Clayton said pushing his sandy blonde hair out of his face.

She looked over to see her brother in-law Brock leaning against the door frame, with a smile on his face. She covered her mouth, trying not to laugh at his wet clothing.

“How did he manage to do that?” she asked the five year old.

“I wouldn't have fell, if someone hasn't insisted we get them ice cream.”

“They had been behaving, and deserved a treat.” Loralie said, walking past her husband.

Riley got off of her aunt's bed and ran after her mother down the hall to her room. Though their home was big enough for their family, it was starting to get a but crowded with all the new additions.

“Mum and Dad want to talk to you when they get home.” Loralie called from downstairs the hall.

She got off her bed, picking up Clayton and propping him on her hip as she walked to her sister's room. She sat down on their bed, with him resting on her knee.

“About what?” She asked wrapping her arms around her nephew.

Her sister gave her a look that she knew all to well, a look that meant she knew actually what she was talking about. She had heard her parents talking about her getting engaged to one of the other noble shadowhunter families in Idris. She hated Michael Wayland with a burning passion and didn't understand why he believed in such awful things. Though she loved the beautiful city of Idris, she hated how they treated and kept out all of the “downworlders”. She hated calling them that, she felt as if they were just people with different aspects that made them unique in their own way.

She sighed and fell back on to the bed, “When will they understand? Even if they make me marry him, I will never love him.”

“Just give him a chance.” She said, ushering her children to leave the room.

“That's easy for you to say, but now there's a war ahead of us.” She said, whispering the last part.

“Don't you think I know that, we all know that.” She said, slamming the drawer shut.

She sat up and glared over at her older sister, who had her hands spread on each end of the dresser. Her dark brown hair was hiding her face as her breathing began rapid.

Abigail groaned and rolled her eyes, “Then understand where I am coming from, we are on opposite sides of this war and I'm not going to change all because they want me to marry him.”

She pushed her hair out of her face and into a loose ponytail, “There only trying to do what's best for you.”

“What's best for me...’ She shook her head slightly laughing to herself. “Or what's best for them.”

“It's what's best for all of us.”

She throw her hands up in frustration, “Are you even listening to me! What about me being happy? What about my happiness. If I'm not happy them what's the point of caring on the family name, what's the point of getting into a miserable relationship.”

“How do you know it's going to be a miserable relationship, if you don't give him a chance?” Loralie said sitting down next to her.

She sighed resting her head on her hands, “Getting engaged to him goes against my morals and values as a person. I don't agree with his views towards others that aren't shadowhunters. We're practically polar opposites!”

“Opposites attract.” Brock said walking back into the room.

“Not in this case and no one asked for your input.” She spat out at her brother-in-law.

“Don't take it out on him, he did nothing to you.”

She ran her hands down her face, “Sorry.”

She pushed herself up and walked out of the room, ignoring her sisters attempts to continue the conversation. She went into her room and closed the door behind her, trying to figure out what to do next. She rummaged through her drawers and took out her stele, tracing the locking rune on her bedroom door. She laid down on her bed, staring up at the ceiling and soon fell asleep.
