Barbara was eager to reveal her wings as Angel had done moments before; but she was told that it would be extremely shocking for the Commoners to know that there was another Royal before the Queen had met her first. The little girl agreed to keep her wings hidden until she was approved by the Queen, knowing she had no other choice.
However not discouraged in the slightest, the little girl was practically skipping wherever she could walk. Angel was scanning through the different booths with mild interest, but stopped to point out a couple of Vampire knickknacks and foods to Barbara, and explained what they were. At one particular booth, Angel bought the little girl a pumpkin pastie that was filled with pumpkins and the icing topped with pig blood.
"Why pig blood and not any other animal or person, for that matter?" Barbara asked her blonde, Vampire friend.
"Pig blood is the most common animal Vampires go for, along with cow blood. It probably has to do with the fact that their organs are most similar to human beings; but I don't really know."
"Oh okay. I guess that makes a little bit of sense." Barbara didn't understand what Angel said at all.
They continued to make their way through the open market place with no trouble. Barbara enjoyed her pastry and occasionally talking to the different people behind their vendors, but became even more overjoyed when she noticed the castle.
The castle matched the bricks Barbara and the hundreds of people in the Palace were stepping on, however it was a more shiny white than the slightly dirty pavement. It gave a great shadow to the part of the marketplace Barbara and Angel were venturing through.
Once they made it to the mahogany castle doors, a guard, who recognized Angel, greeted her happily as he allowed them to enter without a single question. Barbara turned to thank him and received a kind smile in return.
The castle was as beautiful as the outside. The throne room was made of white marble with the matching columns, which held the magically-sky-like ceiling, were draped in fine rugs. Barbara immediately recognized the rugs' designs as the Royal bloodline.
Another guard walked over to them with a kind expression on his face, and explained to Angel that Val had wanted to meet with the little girl privately before she greeted her niece.
"You can trust Andrew, Barbara." Angel said as she parted ways with her caretaker. Barbara, a look of distrust written all over her face as she walked with the man, waved goodbye as politely as she could.
"It's alright, Miss Potter," the man named Andrew began, "I grew up in an abusive home myself. I ended up running away and ran into Val as she was in Diagon Alley one day. She told me I could move here after I graduated Hogwarts."
"I'm sorry to hear that, Andrew. At least you're here now, right?" Barbara replied. He seemed genuine in the little girl's eyes and she began to trust him a little bit. They conversed until he brought Barbara to the end of a hall, the door of the room she was about to enter stood ajar.
She looked into the room expecting to find the Queen perched in a chair behind a desk; but she was mistaken. Andrew had lead her to an office, the Queen sitting in a chair off in the corner looking out a window with a solemn expression.
"My Lady, the young Potter has arrived." He bowed respectively, shot Barbara an encouraging grin, and left the two alone.
"Hello, Barbara." The Vampire Queen said kindly, peeling her disturbingly blue eyes from the busy marketplace to look at the little girl.
"Hi, Queen Valerie."
The beautiful woman in front of Barbara smiled. "Please, sit down and call me Val. Everyone here does." Barbara obediently sat in the empty chair across from Queen Valerie, who sighed.
"Alright, now.... let's start from the beginning before any questions."
