Love, SiriuslyxPadfoot
As sixth year was coming to a close, everyone was counting down the days. Barbara had just edged out Remus's bet; and it was now between her and Sirius. They always talked smack in private, but they both truly hoped that they would get together as soon as possible.
The only problem was that James and the other Marauders still went after Snape occasionally. Barbara had told Sirius off multiple times, trying to make him see that he's not helping James's case at all. Sirius's defense was putting Barbara in the line of fire by telling her that she needed to make Lily see what James was really like; but Barbara always countered that she saw James as a bully because he was being one. But the biggest problem was when Sirius had almost killed Snape and spoil Remus's secret. She barely spoke a sentence to him a day due to that nasty prank. Sirius still maintained that he deserved to be scared, not processing the fact that was almost scarred by Moony.
It had put a strain on their relationship. Not a big enough one to cause a lot of drama, but a strain nonetheless. Barbara retreated from Sirius by hanging out with her rock, Marlene. The blonde seemed to be the best at giving advice even when she had never been in that situation.
One night, Barbara and Marlene were in the Potter's room, a sound charm placed on the room so no one could hear Barbara complain about Sirius.
"I mean, Marley, our first year anniversary is coming up and we can barely be in the same room with each other! It's gotten terrible and there's no way I can avoid him!"
"What about one of your missions? Can you take off for a few days and tell him that you need space?"
"No, I can't do that. I told you we admitted that we loved each other during Valentine's Day. How can I take that back?"
"You can take it back if it's not true." Marlene was met with silence. "Is it true?"
Barbara sighed, her hair falling in front of her face. "Yes, its true, which is why I couldn't stand to take a break. Why are hormones such– such assholes?!"
Marlene chuckled at Barbara's dramatics. She loved the girl but her best friend could be pretty terrible at noticing how obvious the answer was. "Barb, if you're meant to be, you're meant to be. You really can't do anything about it unless you talk with him."
Marlene's last day at the Potter's household was filled with meticulous planning with James. Barbara was on a grocery run while Sirius was helping Mr. Potted with his potions. They both saw the declining relationship between their best friends; and they both deemed it unacceptable. Of course, Marlene knew the real reason behind it but didn't mention it to James, who thought they had just hit a rough patch when he had pranked Snape the last time.
When Barbara returned from grocery shopping, Marlene gave a signal to the house Elves to put the groceries away. "Barb, come here for a second." She motioned Barbara towards upstairs.
"Marley... what did you do?" Barbara said cautiously. She knew that tone all too well. She used it regularly when tricking James into tripping into a wall.
"I might've gotten ink all over your sheets and didn't know what to do." Marlene whispered in Barbara's ear, eyeing Mrs. Potter. Euphemia, who was on on the plan, smiled and winked at Marlene in return.
"Oh, well let me get it off. I can't believe you managed to sit on your wand, Marley." Barbara lightly scolded her friend. Unbeknownst to her, Sirius was tricked into Barbara's room, James telling him that he left something in there and needed it back.
As soon as Barbara saw Sirius, she literally put her foot down; but it was too late. Marlene had shoved her in the room so hard that Barbara was sure she would fall.
But she fell into his arms instead.
"You alright?"
She didn't answer, she didn't know why to say.
Sirius was the firsts to speak. He sighed heavily and took a seat on the bed. Barbara stood in front of him, her eyes downcast to the floor. "We may have our kinks, love, but we somehow always manage to get into a room together and alone."
Barbara hid her smile under a small frown. She heard Sirius sigh and get up again. She saw his feet blocking the view of her floor, and she felt his hand under her chin. Sirius gently pulled her chin up so their eyes could meet.
"I don't care how many little fights we've had over those two, I don't think that's what really got you like I originally thought. I know the prank I pulled could've been executed better-"
"Better? Better?! You almost killed him!" Barbara finally snapped. She went from sad eyes to angry ones in less than a second. "Do you not understand how dangerous that was?! Not only for Snape, but for Remus, your best mate?! How could you do that to-"
Sirius's frightened eyes made Barbara stop yelling. My eyes must be that blue, Barbara thought to herself, forgetting that in her angriest of times the electric blue still held true. She took a deep breath, not being able to bear the sight of scared grey eyes, and continued. "Look," she said calmly, "you're an idiot."
"I know. I can't apologize to anybody anymore without making it sound insincere at this point, though. So you have to accept me now or never, Love."
"What kind of question is that?" Barbara exclaimed. "Why do you sound like I'm breaking up with you? I told Marley earlier and I'll tell you now: I love you and I'm not taking that back, Sirius."
"Good, because I love you too. Now get over here and hug me my crazy Vampire!"
Sirius embraced Barbara, a feeling of relief washing over him. In the darkest of times, she was his light. And he knew that their relationship may have a couple dents, but it was just sound all the same.
All that mattered was his Vampire was safe, sound, and only pissed off at Death Eaters. If they meet her when she has more time on her hands for missions, I'll feel really sorry for them.
