Chapter 29

Luke pinned my arms to my side, making me squeal. He was putting all of his weight onto me as a thrashed around under him. I managed to get my arms loose and push him to the side and kicking his legs off of mine.

"No!" He shouted, a short grunt followed after as his back hit the floor. "I always win these!" He was now tangled in a blanket, his feet and ankles caught which I used to my advantage and laid on his back, making sure he couldn't move. I silently counted to three, letting me know that I had won a round of play fighting.

"I win!" I shouted, hopping off of him and clapping. He loudly groaned, rolling onto his back and staring up at the ceiling, both of our chests rising and falling rapidly.

"I let you win." He smirked. I raised an eyebrow at him and I crouched down, tapping my chin a few times as if I was deep in thought. I sighed and put a hand on his shoulder.

"You just got your ass kicked by a girl." I easily said. He was about to pounce on me again, but was stopped by the sound of his mom calling him from the top of his basement stairs.

"Coming." He groaned, getting back to his feet. "I'm an adult and still get lectured by my parents." He let out a sigh as he went near the stairs.

"How do you know you're about to get lectured?" I questioned, sitting up and crossing my legs.

"Because then they would've come downstairs." He rolled his eyes, climbing the stairs and leaving me down on the couch by myself.

"Right." I mumbled, picking up my phone and aimlessly scrolling through it. I fell on my back, pulling one of his fleece blankets that laid on the arm of the chair over my legs.

I patiently sat for about 10 minutes, waiting for Luke to come back down. I checked the end of the stairs every few minutes, but the sound of him practically stomping down the steps caught my attention.

I sat on my elbows, watching Luke rub his extremely pink face, collapsing onto me with no word. I let out a short groan from the sudden weight as he buried his face into my shoulder. I fell to my back again, placing my elbows on his shoulders and continuing to scroll through my phone. He peered up at me once, catching my attention to his hidden face.

"What'd they lecture you about?" I asked, quietly laughing at his state of dissatisfaction. He sighed and looked up at me, collapsing back onto my chest.

"Safe sex." He mumbled, his cheeks turning red again.

"What?" I traced my fingers across his shoulders and down his back as i chuckled at his statement, trying to get him to perk up.

"My mom found a condom wrapper in the back pocket of my jeans when she did my laundry." He explained. My face burned for him, or for his luck.

"Oh my God, that's so embarrassing." I replied, watching as he shifted to my side and clung onto me.

"Tell me about it. She nearly came down here and talked to you about getting on some pill." He muttered. I instantly pulled away from his body, a pang of fear running through me.

"Why did she think it was me?!" I nearly shouted.

"She's known I've liked you since the summer." He shrugged his shoulders as he obviously hadn't seen it as a big of deal as I did.

"But you didn't tell her we did, did you?" I nervously ran a hand through my hair, glancing down to our tangled legs stuck in the small space.

"Well, no, not really." He stammered. "My parents already has suspicions of us and that kind of gave it away." He let out another sigh, this time against my skin, causing me to feel relaxed for a moment.

"Oh my God." I mumbled, shifting my view to him. "Your parents know we've had sex." I buried my face in my hands while Luke buried his head into my shoulder.

"Don't remind me." His voice was muffled by both my shoulder and his feeling of embarrassment.

"What if they tell my mom?" I suddenly asked, sitting up, Luke following my actions.

"They won't do that, they don't like to meddle." He assured, rubbing his face in his hands.

"Luke." I whined, burying my face in my palms again. "I don't think I can face your parents again." I stuck out my bottom lip, only to have his arms wrap around me and comfortingly pull me closer to him.

"Then act like it didn't happen." He suggested, lazily twirling the ends of my hair between his fingers.

"I don't want to do that." I told him, sitting back up straight. I grabbed his hands in mine, intently watching his stare on our fingers. "I like being able to say that you're my boyfriend." I laughed, watching as a small smile crept onto his face. "And we can tell them whenever you want. It's just my parents I'm worried about." I explained.

"Let's tell them now." He quickly brought his head up, squeezing my hands once.

"What?" I stuttered through the word, furrowing my eyebrows at him. He stood up, pulling me off of the couch with him.

"The sooner the better." He started dragging me towards the steps, but I stopped him before we could actually reach them.

"You want to tell them we're dating right after they just lectured you about sex?" I tilted my head slightly as him as he pursed his lips.

"Yep." He easily said after a moment, walking back towards the steps, climbing up them while I stayed at the bottom, confused by his sudden change of mood. "Are you coming?" He suddenly asked, turning around and peering down at me.

I opened my mouth then quickly shut it, hurrying my way up the stairs and to his side, grabbing his hand that reached out for me.

I took a nervous breath as he opened the door, calling out for his parents who were just in the room over. He popped his head into the room, tugging me along with him and standing right in front of his two parents who were trying to watch the TV in front of them that Luke now blocked.

"I have something important to tell you." He dragged on his words as he rocked back and forth on his heels. I shook my head slightly, constantly looking between Luke an his parents.

"I asked Autumn to be my girlfriend and she surprisingly said yes so we're going to be in the basement having a movie night." He quickly said, almost so fast that even I couldn't catch onto what he was saying. I was quickly spun and pulled back by Luke when I pulled him back.

"Luke." I groaned, pulling him by the arm and back into the room. He gave me a displeased look which I returned with a smile, turning him back to his parents.

Their faces were brightened, obviously enjoying the news they had just been informed with. There was no denying that they've wanted us together just as bad as my parents, they just weren't straight forward.

"Luke here is obviously embarrassed, so I'm going to embarrass him more." I told them with a gentle smile, pushing Luke's arm as he brought a hand to his forehead. "I not so surprisingly said yes to him this morning, but he's still Luke and I'm still not sure how this all happened." I said, watching his parents exchange looks.

His mom shrugged her shoulders once, causing me to look over to Luke who was nervously biting the inside of his cheek.

"We're fine with it." She laughed, taking a sip of the drink next to her. "There's just rules that we should lay down, but I'm pretty sure you know those." I nodded my head at her as Luke did to, reaching for my hand and intertwining our fingers again.

"We're going back down to watch a couple movies." He told them, hurrying to get back downstairs.

"Don't stay up to late!" His dad called out as Luke opened the door. "You have to be up early if you want to beat the traffic." He said, referring to us leaving to head back to school.

We jogged down the stairs, flopping back onto the small couch, listening to the music that played on the home screen of the movie we put in before Luke was lectured the first time. We sat in a short silence, mostly because I was waiting for him to say something.

"That was scary." He stated, bending one of his legs as an arm wrapped around the back of the couch. I laughed lightly, getting up and actually playing the movie.

"It wasn't that bad." I walked towards his open arms, sitting down next to him and leaning into his side. "'She surprisingly said yes.'" I mocked his voice, listening as his laughter filled my ears. "Smooth."

"I just didn't know if you would say yes!" He defended himself as he locked gazes with me.

"Why would I not?" I nudged his side as he smiled wider, turning back to the TV.

"I don't know." He easily said, now only half smiling. I shook my head and curled up even more to his side, sighing as my words fell from my mouth.

"You really are something."

I slapped Luke's hand away from the radio, him glaring at me as he pulled back and turned his focus back to the road.

"I like this song!" I exclaimed, kicking a foot up onto his dashboard.

"You're so difficult." He groaned.

I stuck my tongue out at him, the same way I did when we were little, and he instantly returned it back. I giggled as I leaned back into my chair, letting the song mixed with Luke's soft hums flow through my ears.

Our drive was mostly silence since it was early and we were heading back to school again. The first term was hard enough for us so knowing that the last term was easier was a huge weight off our shoulders. I let out a soft sigh at the signs that were becoming more familiar and when we began to get clumped in traffic.

Luke gripped tighter on the wheel, leaning back into his seat, then dropping his hands into his lap since we were in stopped traffic. He glanced over to me then turned down the radio.

"Your birthday is coming up." He said, giving me a sweet smile.

"It's next month." I corrected, seeing that it wasn't very soon at all.

"We have a whole month to prepare then." He reached over and gripped my thigh once, causing me to let out a small squeal.

"I don't want anything big, maybe we could head down to Times Square for the day." I suggested, breathing out and blinking a few times at him.

"So no party?" He raised an eyebrow at me and I pushed his shoulder, getting a laugh out from him.

"No more parties for me for another good six months." I chuckled. He nodded his head once, turning his attention back to the road and slowly inching his car forward.

"I can do that." He sighed, nodding over at me. "And spring break." He suddenly said, causing me to glance over to him.

"What about spring break?" I questioned, shifting in my seat to where I was now facing him.

"Where do you want to go?" He let go of the wheel again, stopping the car after we moved a few feet.

"Anywhere but Florida." I laughed. We've gone there for the past 4 years and it was starting to become a little too familiar.

"No to the beach or no to Florida?" He asked.

"No to Florida." I clarified. I loved the beach which is why I dragged him there every year, it was a nice contrast to the big city.

"How long do we have until then?" He looked over at me as I calculated the amount of time we had.

"End of March, a little over two months." I told him, which he returned with an easy smile.

"We can make something work in two months." He assured, grabbing my hand as I leaned my head against the window, not exactly ready to handle normal life again.
