Chapter 3

The next morning I went to school even though I still wasn't feeling well. Those of you that remember high school understand. You can't miss a day when you can help it. It's not like middle school or younger where being sick meant lying on the couch eating soup and watching movies all day. In high school you always worry about what make up work you have to do.

I sat in my first period seat and laid my head on my desk. Litho came in as it was her class as well. She walked over to me, worried. "Are you ok?" She questioned.

"Fine." I answered. "I'm just not feeling well, I'm sure it's nothing though." I said remembering what Athena said last night.

"Are you sure?" She asked. "I've known you forever. I know when something's wrong. Tell me."

I shook my head. "Just wake me up a minute or so before class starts." I laid my head down and closed my eyes.

About fifteen minutes later she shook me awake. We said the pledge and did the moment of silence just like any other day. I won't bore you with all the details of the school day, if you remember high school you already know.

Anyways, after school I had marching band rehearsal and I absolutely could not miss. During break I was still feeling absolutely horrible I ran into Litho on my way out of the school for a bit of fresh air. A limo pulled up and a strange man walked out with Athena and somebody else I had never seen before in my life. I don't remember much of the conversation just that I had started running with Litho.

"Anna! Your hand is on fire!" Litho yelled as we ran.

I looked down at my right hand. "Huh." You would think you would feel some sort of pain if your hand was burning but I didn't feel a thing. I shook my hand and the flame flew. "This has to be a dream." I stopped running.

"What are you doing? Why did you stop?" Litho asked.

"I'm done running." I turned to face our pursuers. "They will catch us eventually so I am just going to stand my ground and fight." I threw fire at them but Athena must have had her shield up as it bounced off them harmlessly.

They walked closer.

I couldn't produce the fire any more.

Ten feet away.

A pulsing headache came to me.

Five feet.

I fell to my knees in pain before the earth rushed up to meet me.

Blackness. Inky blackness was all I could see. I couldn't feel anything.
