Luna's PoV
I left the Tarron's home, Krel following. I led him to my bright red Vespa and tossed him a helmet.
"What is this for?" He asked, spinning it in his hands and scrunching his eyes at it.
"It's a helmet; it protects your head if we have a... ya know, wreck or something." I replied, putting on my black helmet and sitting down on the scooter.
He put on his helmet, after about five minutes of difficulty, and sat behind me.
I turned my head and glanced at him out of the corner of my eye. I turned back and grinned at the sight of him awkwardly placing his hands behind his back.
"Put your hands on my waist, not behind you, dingus." I said.
I felt ten long and slender fingers grip my side.
"Oh, and hang on." I added, hopefully unnecessarily. I gripped the handlebars and pushed on the gas, speeding out of the driveway.
Krel hurriedly put his arms all the way around me and held on like he would fall off if he didn't.
I swerved around the town, enjoying the wind on my face, and then slowed down and came to a stop in front of the library.
Krel still held on tight.
"Krel... you can let go now."
He reluctantly let go and shakily stood up. "That... that was not pleasant." his fingers began to fumble with his helmet strap.
I laughed as I took off my helmet and parked the Vespa. "Never been on a Vespa before?"
He shook his head "No. Wait, are we leaving the transportational device here? Why?"
"Because, the library is a safe place for it. No one will steal it while it's here." I responded. "Now, what first? How about the park?"
Krel nodded his head "Sure. But what is a park?"
"You're kidding me, right?" I asked him with my eyes wide "Do they seriously not have parks in Canada?"
"Cantaloupia." He corrected "And, no, we do not have the parks."
"Well, smarty pants, a park is a place where people meet up. It's full of pretty plants and lots of grass. I think I saw your grandpa there yesterday when I was walking out of the school."
Krel's face lightened with understanding "Oh... is that's what that is! Yes, I have seen this park from a distance before."
"Okay, then. So let's go, and I can show you the cool plants they have!"
We walked over to the park in silence. I wondered about Krel. He seems like a nice guy, but I still think that he's a bit too odd for any normal person to be. And I still wonder about his old home. Really, what country doesn't know what a park is?! He seems like me when I came here six years ago. I didn't know anything about anything, either. Especially not a park.

"Woah! This planet it so green!" I cried, falling down onto the soft grass below. The grass felt like a pillow, and was almost enough to make me forget about the past few days. The coup, the loneliness, the crushing realization that I may never see my home or my parents ever again...
Almost, but not quite.
_____
I grabbed Krel's arm as soon as we hit the bright green grass that I had rolled on oh, so many years ago, and pointed to the different species of plants, naming each one as we passed it. Krel took a very special liking to the bright blue hydrangeas.
"They are so beautiful." He sighed, squatting down next to the bunch and touching the petals gently.
"Yeah." I agreed. The were a particular favorite of mine. They were one of the first Earth flora I had seen when I arrived, and the bright blue hue reminded me of home. "Any particular reason why they're so beautiful?"
Krel smiled absentmindedly, as if he were reminiscing about a good memory "They remind me... of my home."
He grunted as he got up, and we continued to walk through the park "My home did not have many plants. Hardly any. But the... city...was very blue." He sighed and brushed a stray hair out of his eye "I miss home. Aja does, too, but she doesn't admit it. I wish we could go back..."
I sat down on a bench, and he sat next to me "Well, maybe you will, one day. Hey, did I ever tell you that I moved here, too?"
Krel shook his head.
"Oh, yes, I moved here about six years ago. I had no friends, no family. My parents were, uhm...sort of... delayed in coming. Something held them back, and they couldn't make it with me. I was all alone. Well, except for my nurse, Axalan. We have had a pretty rough time, here in Arcadia, but we managed.
One day, maybe sooner than we think, we can both go back home. But until then, at least you have your sister, parents, and grandpa." I looked at him and held his hand "And me."
Krel grinned and squeezed my hand "Yeah. Thanks, Luna. You know, even if I did not have my family, you would suffice."
I grinned back "You're a pretty good friend, too."
________
It was almost two o'clock by the time I had finished showing him the town, and we were both extremely hungry. I led him back to the park, where a really good taco truck was parked for the lunch crowd.
"Stuart!" Krel cried out as soon as he saw the truck's owner
"You know him?" I asked.
"Absolutely. Stuart is a...family friend." He said as we walked faster to the truck.
"Krel!" Stuart yelled, waving a large hand, ignoring the irritated Mary Wang, who was waiting for her burrito.
"You better serve you customers, Stuart, and then we can talk." Krel advised.
Stuart nodded in understanding and served Mary.
As me and Krel waited in the shortening line, a group of popular boys passed.
"Hey, pretty mama!" One wolf-whistled, winking at me. "Want me to buy you lunch? You can ditch that sorry loser following you."
Krel's PoV
I felt a red hot bubble inside my chest as the boy wink at her. Who did he think he was? The rude, insolent-
Luna turned her head away from them and focused her attention on the brightly-colored truck.
"Hey, mama, I'm talking to you!" Yelled the boy
People's heads we're starting to turn as the boy's voice grew louder and louder.
"Billy!" Hissed one of the boy's friends "Dude, she's off limits! Remember, she's that weird nerd who-"
"Maybe you should try to think before you speak." Muttered Luna, bristling up at the boy's taunts.
"Hey, what was that you said? Wait, I know you... you're that girl who chased off my friend, Johnny!" Billy cried
I was confused for a moment. Luna chased off a boy? "Hey, why don't you show some respect for someone who actually has a brain in between her ears?" I said
Billy scowled "What d'you say to me, Latino?"
"I thought it was obvious." I scoffed "I was calling you stupid. Of course, it is the idiots who deny their true nature."
"Why you little-" Billy and his friends made as to come closer and held up their fists.
"Hey, kids!" Yelled Stuart "Knock it off, or you're permanently banned from here!"
The guys looked beaten down. They threw a dirty look at us and made some rude hand gestures, then stomped off.
I took a step in their direction, but Luna grabbed my arm
"Don't." She said "They're not worth it. And plus, I don't condone violence."
But yet I swear I saw a satisfied smirk as she turned back to the truck.

Luna's PoV
"So, who is this, Krel?" asked Stuart, as soon as me and Krel had our burritos and the lunch crowd had vanished. Stuart had led us to a picnic table, where we promptly sat down and ate our late lunch, free of charge (bless you, Stuart!).
"This is Luna." Krel said "My friend."
"Hi." I said to the burrito guy, shaking his large hand.
"Luna, eh? What's your last name?" He asked
"Bloodstone." I replied. "Luna Bloodstone."
Stuart's eyes narrowed "Bloodstone..." he said quietly.
"So, Luna, what did that boy mean when he said that you chased off his friend?" Krel asked suddenly, relieving the awkward silence that followed Stuart's odd murmurs.
"Oh, that? Well, Axalan made a really good deal for their house. I guess the family left without saying goodbye." I shrugged "So everyone wonders why I showed up so suddenly, where I came from, and they also think that I'm some sort of illegal... alien." My heart raced a little bit faster as I thought of the truth hidden behind the lies and rumors. Axalan had bribed the Browns, their son Johnny included, to take a permanent vacation to Australia. We didn't exactly steal their house, per se, but still...
"Hm, so is that why you are a social outcast? Because you 'made' someone 'disappear'" Krel pushed further.
"Yeah."
Krel grinned "Well, we're both outcasts, I suppose."
I grinned back "I suppose so."
And me and Krel continued to chat, and Stuart watched and listened in scrutinizing silence....
