A New Friend
Luna's PoV
I sighed as I stepped into the dark and desolate place known as High School.
"Hey, nerd!" called out several athletes "Where's your calculator?"
"It's gonna be down your throat in a minute." I muttered under my breath. I had learned long ago that replying just made things worse. I kept walking, going to my locker and opening it. I grabbed my pencil and binders and closed the metal door.
I turned my head as I noticed someone open their locker near me. Odd, no one has had a locker this close to me in ages. Most people keep a wide berth from me, thinking I have cooties or something like that. Stupid humans.
The locker door closed, and I saw the owner. A skinny little Latino with wavy brown hair sighed as he leaned against the lockers. I stared for a minute, then he looked up at me.
"Hello." he said with a weird accent.
I was surprised that he spoke to me. Obviously he was new.
"Hi." I replied "Who are you?"
"I am new. " He said "My name is Krel."
"Luna." I smiled "Where are you from?"
"Cantalupia" He replied, with the ease of someone who's practiced what they're going to say beforehand. "I'm here with my sister, Aja." Krel nodded his head towards a blonde girl who waas chatting with Mary Wang and Darci Scott.
"Well, she's popular." I snorted "Mary and Darci only hang out with the elite."
Krel looked confused for a moment, then nodded "She does have many friends. It is only our second day here. I have none." He looked at me with his head tilted "Unless you could be my friend."
I was slightly shocked at his boldness. "Sure. If I'm honest myself, I could use a friend, too."
He smiled. I smiled back. "I could show you the town. Tomorrow, since there's no school Saturday. You could bring your sister. And we could go to a movie, or something."
"Tomorrow." He grinned easily. "That sounds all right."
"What's your adress?"
Krel looked down at his clothes worriedly "Ah-dress like this everyday?"
I laughed "No, where you live, silly"
He smiled again, relieved "Oh, yeah. I knew that, obviously, being a human teenager and everything."
I chuckled. He's funny, but there was something about him. His sister, apparently his twin, didn't look anything like him, his accent was odd, and where the heck is Cantaloupia?! He's either very odd, or keeping a secret.
Neither of those sounded like very good options.
