CH. 8 - No Regrets, No Mistakes

I laid down on the couch, fully wrapped in a blanket as I aimlessly searched for something to watch on Netflix. I just needed any kind of distraction to forget my dream from earlier this morning.

My phone screen lit up, beginning to vibrate multiple times. I glanced at my phone on the coffee table, seeing Leo's name on the screen. I sighed, relaxing my shoulders as I sat up to grab my phone off the table. I lazily slid my thumb across the 'slide to answer' bar, placing my phone to my ear as I laid back down onto the couch.

"Hey." I answered softly as my eyes continued to peruse different show titles on the TV screen.

"Nadia are you okay? Honestly, I feel really bad about what happened this morning." His voice drowned in sadness and blatant concern.

My eyes finally broke away from the TV screen as I looked off to the side, lightly furrowing my eyebrows. "I'm okay Leo, really. It was just a bad dream, nothing serious." I faintly smiled to myself, attempting to believe my own lies.

He sighed. "Can I at least make it up to you? We don't have to talk about it if you don't want too but I just don't want to end the day on bad terms."

My face softened as my legs anxiously shifted around underneath my blanket. "Um, yeah but I'm going out with Amelia tonight, so I'll see you afterwards?"

"Yeah, sure, that works." His voice was gentle yet dull. There was a brief moment of silence and my eyes awkwardly wandered around my living room.

"Nadia?"

"Yeah?"

"You know I love you, right?"

I silently exhaled, feeling my heart sink. My eyes blankly stared up at the ceiling. "I know, I love you too."

"And we're okay, right?" Leo cautiously asked.

I inwardly chuckled, deflecting the creeping feeling of uncertainty.

"Yeah Leo, we're good. I promise."

...

"Okay, Amelia, how do I look?"

I walked out of my bathroom, flashing her a pretentious smile as I playfully fluttered my eyelashes. I wore a jet-black dress that stopped right above my knees.

Amelia tilted her head, lightly smiling at me as she raised an eyebrow. "It looks a little tight. You sure this is a friendly dinner or a date?" Amelia teased.

I scoffed, rolling my eyes as I walked over to my closet. "Perry's is a fancy place you know that. They literally have a dress code." I pulled my black blazer off its hanger, throwing it over my shoulder. "I'll wear my blazer too, for modesty."

Amelia softly laughed, shaking her head at me. "Look, all I'm saying is, be careful. Christian is Danny's brother. You know the last time you had dinner at a fancy place with one of them you ended up in his bed."

I stopped putting my earrings on, glancing back at her in shock. "Okay that was a low blow even for you." I smirked, pointing a finger at her.

"You're smiling, I don't think that hurt you that bad." She playfully eyed me.

"Christian is nothing like Danny. Plus," I stared at her from my mirror as I clasped a gold necklace around my neck. "It wasn't his bed. It was the hotel's if we're being technical here."

Amelia laughed. "Okay Nadia, jokes aside, please be careful. We don't want history to repeat itself."

I heavily sighed, walking over to Amelia as I sat down next to her on my bed. "I'll be fine. I won't make any mistakes I promise."

"Besides," I showed her the ring on my finger. "Christian already acknowledged this. We're just friends."

"Let's keep it that way yeah?" Amelia nudged my shoulder as I playfully brushed her off.

My phone chimed, deterring my attention from Amelia. I stood up, walking over to my dresser, looking at the message notification. Sure enough, it was Christian. "Well Amelia, that's my cue to leave." I grabbed my purse, looking at myself one last time in the mirror to make sure I looked decent.

Amelia walked over to me, wrapping her arm around my shoulder. "Well, I hope you have a nice time. I hope you two figure out a way to find Maia." Amelia narrowed her eyes as she looked up in thought. "Even though I'm not really sure why Christian thought Perry's was a good place to discuss that but whatever."

I softly chuckled as we walked out of my bedroom towards the front door. I shrugged. "Maybe it was for formality or something, I don't know. I mean I don't mind; I haven't been to Perry's in awhile anyways."

"Hmm, maybe." Amelia mumbled.

I shut the front door, routinely locking it before Amelia placed a firm hand on my shoulder. I gazed up at her. Her eyes were steadily focused on me.

"No more lies. No mistakes. Don't do anything you'll regret again." Amelia's eyes softened. "Okay?"

I lightly smiled at her. "Yeah." I quickly nodded. "Okay."

...

I walked out of the main doors of my apartment complex, peering up at the sky admiring the dark blue hue with a hint of orange at the horizon as the sun had just set. The weather was cool with a light breeze.

There he was, in a black suit with a white button up shirt underneath that wasn't completely buttoned up all the way. His soft brown eyes met with mine as the corners of his mouth turned up in an amiable smile. I shyly smiled back at him as he walked over to me, reaching for my hand to support my balance as I stepped down the stairs in my heels.

"Thanks." I lightly chuckled, letting go of his hand at the end of the staircase. "No problem." Christian ran his hand through his hair, looking at me with a nervous smile plastered on his face. "Um," He bashfully grinned, quickly glancing down at his feet before looking at me again. "You look, lovely."

I faintly giggled, warmly smiling at him as I ignored the butterflies in my stomach. "Thanks Christian." I eyed his outfit, grinning as I nodded in approval. "You look, really good too." We both awkwardly laughed at each other.

Our laughter slowly died down as we smiled at each other. We locked eyes for a moment and I felt my surroundings begin to fade into the background.

Christian quickly diverted his eyes, glancing down at the ground again. He cleared his throat. "We should, um, we should probably get going." He chuckled. I nodded my head in agreement. "Yeah, yeah you're right." I nervously laughed, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.

We walked over to his car and he unlocked the doors, opening the passenger side door for me. "Thanks." I whispered as I got in his car. He nodded, waiting until I adjusted myself into the seat before closing the door. I stared at him as he walked back to the driver's side, taking a deep breath.

No regrets, no mistakes.
