CH. 5 - White Lies

"Good morning pool girl. C'mon get up." I felt a hand pat my leg.

I groaned at Christian's voice, tugging the blanket that smelled like him over my head.

Wait...I'm still at Christian's house?

I tossed the blanket away from my face and my eyes were greeted with the high ceilings of Christian's living room. I looked down at myself, seeing I was in a black oversized t-shirt. "What...?"

"So," Christian began, towering over me as he leaned against the arm of the couch. "I didn't think driving yourself home was a good idea. I gave you one of my shirts and you knocked out on the couch." He explained.

I sighed, somewhat laughing at myself as I rubbed the left side of my temple. "Right."

At least I didn't have a dream or nightmare about Danny last night.

I gazed up at Christian and my eyes widened a bit noticing he was only in black sweatpants. My eyes swept over his defined torso, fixating on the old english 1991 tattoo right below the middle of his collarbones.

"Oooh, I've never seen that tattoo before." I mischievously whispered. Christian smiled down at me, playfully rolling his eyes and he walked away towards the kitchen.

I sat up, reaching for my phone that was on the coffee table. I pressed the power button, glancing at the time. 8:47am. My eyes shifted down the screen, seeing I had a few message notifications from Leo since last night.

"Fuck." I mumbled to myself, anxiously biting down on the tip of my thumb. I tossed my phone back down on the coffee table, not wanting to deal with his messages at the moment.

I took in the scent of something sweet, turning my head towards the kitchen. "What are you making?" I asked. "Crêpes." Christian smiled as he took a glance back at me. "You wanna stay for breakfast?"

I chuckled, quickly stretching my arms out above my head. "Well, since you asked," I teased. "Sure."

I skipped over to the kitchen island, taking a seat at one of the counter stools.

"Here you go." Christian gently placed a plate down in front of me. "Thank you." I eagerly swung my legs as I smiled at him. I looked down at the crêpes on my plate. They had chocolate filling with strawberries inside and blueberries sprinkled on top with a light chocolate drizzle. I softly giggled, quickly looking up at him. "Okay chef, these look so good!"

Christian's face lightly blushed as he tried not to smile too hard. "Thanks, thanks I mean I try." He sheepishly accepted my compliment as he took a seat next to me with his own plate. I took a bite of one of my crêpes, savoring the taste. I glanced at him, nodding my head in approval. "Yeah you did way more than try." I smiled as Christian's genuine laughter rang through my ears.

"So, um about last night when you mentioned Maia," I twirled my fork in my hand. "I just wanted to say I'll visit again, to talk about it with your parents. I wasn't really focused in the moment."

Christian softly chuckled. "Yeah that was pretty apparent when you ran over to my pool."

"Yeah." I shyly smiled, remembering the incident. "But just let me know the details and I'll be here."

I toyed with the hem of the shirt Christian let me wear. "This shirt is really comfortable."

"Yeah?" Christian leaned back onto his seat. "Too bad you can't keep it." He smirked.

I scoffed as a smile crept up my lips. "Whatever." I playfully nudged his leg with my foot.

...

I finally decided to acknowledge Leo's texts when I got home. Calling him seemed like a better option at this point.

I dialed his number and the phone only rang twice before he picked up. "Hey Nadia, are you okay?" He worriedly asked.

My eyes veered up to the ceiling wondering what I was gonna say. I tiredly sighed. "Yeah, yeah I'm fine. Sorry I didn't answer last night. I didn't mean to worry you. It was a rough night; I was just really tired after work. I went to sleep early." I spoke softly.

He let out a quiet sigh of relief and I was glad he believed me.

"Good to know you're okay. I just wanted to see if you wanted to go out for lunch with me at CPK today. I'm getting off work early."

"Sure, of course. I'd love to." I cheerfully smiled. "I'll get ready and meet you there."

"Great, see you soon sweetheart."

I took my phone away from my ear as he hung up. I quickly sniffed the collar of my shirt, smelling Christian's signature cologne still lingering in the fabric. I need to wash this outfit.

I removed my shirt and jeans, gathering them up with the rest of my clothing in my laundry hamper. I started a load of laundry, rushing back to my bathroom to shower away the traces of last night.

...

I closed my car door, quickly locking it as I walked over to CPK. I saw Leo seated at the outside area of the restaurant and I smiled, quickening my pace to surprise him.

"Hey Leo!" I squealed from behind him, wrapping my arms over his shoulders as I leaned down and warmly planted little kisses on his cheek.

He laughed softly, holding onto my arm as I kissed him. "Hey sweetheart."

I let him go, taking a seat next to him. I noticed the beer bottle on the table.

"You look nice." Leo smiled at me. I grinned, glancing down at my vibrant floral cropped blouse. "Thank you, I thought it'll go well with the weather today." There was a soft breeze and the humidity was low. The sun beamed in a cloudless sky.

"How was work?" I asked, placing my phone face down on the table. Leo took a swig of his beer as he lazily shrugged his shoulders. "Work was work, nothing special. It was a slow day."

My phone chimed and I glanced at it, picking it up. I held my neutral expression as I saw a message notification from Christian.

I placed my phone back down onto the table.

Leo eyed me for a moment and I subtly felt my heartbeat start to accelerate.

"You're not gonna answer that?" Leo lowly asked, bringing his beer bottle back to his lips. I shook my head. "Nah, it's not important." My eyes locked with his.

"Who was it?" His jaw ticked.

"Just Amelia. I can always reply later. Right now, I'm here with you." I reassuringly smiled at him feeling tension in the air.

"Hi! Are you guys ready to order?" I looked up, seeing that bubbly voice had come from the waitress who had walked over to our table.

Leo deeply sighed, putting his bottle down onto the table. He flashed the waitress a closed-mouth fake smile, giving her his attention.

"Uh, yeah." Leo propped the menu up in his hands, beginning to tell the waitress his order. I zoned out, somewhat thankful that she arrived just in time to diffuse our edgy conversation.
