Chapter 1
The dark colour casted over the night sky as the boy ran across the leaves on the rigid ground, his worn out brown pumps created a satisfying sound against the leaves, causing more dirt than thought possible to brush against his heels.
When he thought he had got far enough he bent over and placed his hands on his knees, panting, the condensation creating little whirls of mist. He couldn't believed he'd done that. How could he have been so stupid.
He didn't even realise he was slowly backing up until his back hit the tree behind him, his breaths had gotten more steady by now and he realised he had nowhere else to go. He had lost everything.
The boy decided the only possible place to stay was under this tree for the night, maybe he would find a comfortable looking alleyway in the morning to settle down in.
He looked up at the starless sky, everything seemed so bland at this moment. It would be disrespectful for anything to seem happy in his mind. Nothing could help the pain he felt in his chest, if only he was back earlier. He could've saved her. She'd still be here.
It started out as soft whimpers, but eventually turned into full-on sobs as he thought about his mother. He brought his knees into his chest and tucked his head into his hands as he felt the tears making their way down his red cheeks.
His sobs eventually died down as he cried himself to sleep.... Hoping that in the morning he would wake up for This all to be a dream, to wake up in his room smelling the succulent scent of the maple syrup that his mother used to put on his morning pancakes. That it would all be okay again. Oh how he wished.
