Chapter 1
"Are you excited, princess?" I pull my dirty blonde hair into a high ponytail, wrapping the pink band I had on my wrist around my long stream of hair that was held tight in my hand. I hesitated answering my mom's question, but I was excited.. a bit. My first day at a new school, my first day in California too. I'm nervous, "Yeah, mom!" I say, flashing her a sarcastic smile as I turn my body towards her, "Of course I am, with Liam back in Arizona.. I..-"
My mom interupts me, "Oh, shh... you'll be fine. Liam will visit you as much as he can, Liana, I promise.. besides, I told him I would keep tabs on you so don't go messing around or betraying his trust, young lady." My mom says, tapping the tip of my nose then pulling her hand down to her side.
I laugh, thinking my mom was joking, I would never cheat on Liam, "Of course not." I smile at her. She returns the smile and hands me my backpack, "Okay, let's get in the car." She suggests, I nod and follow her as she walks out the front door, with my backpack hanging on my shoulders. Closing the maroon door behind me, I walk down the small steps and open the passenger door to my mom's vehicle.
It's a beautiful, pearl white Tesla. The loud "Rum" sound it makes when she turns the engine on gives me a slight feeling of pride. This stunning vehicle is just about mine.. only.. it isn't. It's my mom's, I don't have a car. But, hell, I would love to have this one.
I close the passenger door and buckle my seatbelt, turning "Piece By Piece" by Kelly Clarkson on the radio. 102.6 is by far my favorite radio station, SX102.6... my favorite station, they always play my favorite bands. (Little did I know, I'd soon be forced to listen to Panic! At The Disco, MyChemicalRomace, Sour Heart, Green Day... all the stuff I never would listen to, until Cole.) "I love this song!" My mother exclaims, smiling and bopping her head to the quiet beat, "A great way to end our time spent together for right now.."
I sigh and she puts a hand on my thigh, "You'll do great in there, I know you will." She smiles again, but keeps her eyes on the road.. she would never look at me if she was driving; even in a terrible fight. I smile too. She moves her hand, that was placed carefully on my thigh, back on the steering wheel.
I glanced over, her hands were gripped tightly on the steering wheel as she turns it. I was too focused on her, seemily stressed, self to look at where we were, until she just about screamed at me, "We're here!" I shake my head, shaking back into reality while I was at it. My mother parks her car and unbuckles, I do the same. We both get out of the car and slam our doors shut as she locks it and walks over to me. My mother pulls me into a tight embrace, I hug her back.
"Be good for me.." She says, pulling away; her hands sitting on my shoulders.
"I will,"
"Promise me, Liana. Promise me you won't get into any trouble."
"I promise, mom."
"Okay," She smiles at me.
"Now, I have to go or I'll be late. I love you." I say, kissing her cheek.
"Okay.. have fun." She let's me go and I wave to her as I walk off, "I love you!" She yells, I turn around to face her and smile. My body collides into another's behind me. I fall onto the stranger and hiss at the pain.. ouch. Standing back up, I wipe myself off. I turn around to apologize to the stranger, who stands up. His tattooed body has muscles bulging out of every corner as he thrufts a hand through his shiny brown hair. I bite my lip and examine his outfit, a white; short sleeve shirt and black jeans with a leather jacket, the sleeves rolled up to bare some of his arms, "I'm sor-" I begin, but the boy intergects with a groan.
"It's fine, it's fine. I don't expect a prep like you to have any sense of direction anyway," He says, wiping his pants off, not making eye-contact with me, "Excuse me?" He looks up at me, crossing his arms. I couldn't see his eyes before, but they are stunning. A piercing grey color, strong and beautiful, "You heard me." He says, raising an eyebrow, "I didn't think preps were deaf too, but there's a first for everything." He says with a roll of his eyes.
I thought the boy was cute before, even sexy.. but his sour personailty throws that all out the window. I place my hands promptly on my hips and say, "You have no right to talk to me li-" he stops me again, "Save it, princess. I don't need your pathetic bad mouth. I really don't wanna fight with you, don't spoil my day." And then it hits me, damn... his accent, it's fucking beautiful.
It sounds like the perfect mix of Irish and British.. boy, I love it, "I wasn't trying to.. sorry." I push my lips to one side and sigh, putting a hand out for him to shake before I introduce myself, "I'm Liana." He smirks and looks down at my hand, chuckles a bit, then looks up at me, "No you're not. I know your name, new girl. Nice try, Liliana." I groan and put my hand down, rolling my eyes, "And you are..?" I hint, crossing my arms against my chest, "I'm Cole, Cole Brently. Mkay? We good now? I'd like to leave sometime today." I roll my eyes a final time as he says, "You got a problem with me princess? 'Cause I swe-"
I interupt this time, the tables have turned.. haven't they, Cole, "Yes, for starters.. I don't like being called 'princess'.." I say, using air quotations to mark his absurd use for the royal word. "Sure you don't." His eye rolls are annoying but his smirk pushes me off the edge, " I don't, so stop!" I didn't mean to yell, it just came out that way. The guy tensed, seeming to get angrier at me than he already was. Cole cracked his knuckles and swiftly put his hand up, my reflexes kicked and I flinched, ducking down a bit. I thought he was going to smack me, a girl, an innocent girl..
I was shaking a bit from fear, but I was also relieved that I dodged in time for him to miss, "Chill, I wasn't going to hit you." I hear the familiar voice say as I stand back up, shaking a bit, "Then what were y-you going to do?" I stutter, Cole rubs his temples in annoyance and says, "I just wanted to see whatever the hell was on your jaw. I was just gonna move your head."
He rolls his eyes and I cross my arms, "Well, you could've asked me first." I lick my bottom lip and look into the boy's eyes. He is attractive.. very attractive.. but I have Liam back home, and I love Liam. I promised myself, and my mom, that I would behave; but it's just so hard when someone like Cole is standing right in front of you.. "So?" he asks, I snap back into reality from his voice; not realizing I zoned out simply by staring at him, "It's just a scar." I say, licking my lips again, "Ah, okay.. princess." He smirks and I roll my eyes, "What did I say about that stupid name!" I growl back, Cole sighs. I almost feel bad for yelling, "Okay, okay. Sorry.. uh.. Liliana. Now if you excuse me, I've got to get to class." He turns around, pulling the collar up swiftly on his leather jacket.
I roll my eyes again at him saying my name and follow into the school. I hate people saying my name.. so why does Cole make it sound so good?
I shake my head at dirty thoughts dancing in my mind when I make my way to second period, History. I guess my conversation with Cole caused us both to miss first period. Taking a seat at one of the desks, I put my backpack on the floor next to my desk. I look around the classroom and see someone familiar. I can't quite put my finger on it until the head turns around to look at me. I immediately look away when I see who it is; Cole, of course it's Cole.
I focus on the good things about California, like the fact that Kelly is here. Kelly's a friend of mine I met online, and I'm going to hang out with her a lot while I live here. She's in college, Carlifornia State University, for that matter. But, she's not much older than me, only two years. Being 19, she's already a lot cooler than me; I guess. But her tattoos, Red to pink ombre hair, Piercings, bad attitude, and friend group definitely makes her a hell of a lot cooler...
