Night
After Lunch, Aaron had decided to take a nap. He was tired out from going around town and walking through the woods, so he eventually laid down in his bed.
While sleeping, Aaron found himself in another dream. It looked to be morning. He saw the back of Jason going into the woods with his rifle in his hands, looking ready to hunt. He watched Jason walk deeper into the woods, until there wasn't even a silhouette of him.
The sky spun, instantly changing from morning to night time. Instead of seeing Jason stroll out, with a deer or some other kind of hunted animal, He saw Jason run and fall, landing on his hands and knees, panting heavily and looking scared. His shoulder was bare, showing bite marks with some blood leaking out of them. His head was also bleeding and he was bruised.
With groans and sounds of pain spewing out his mouth, Aaron could do nothing but watch as his husband's body morphed until there was a large, dark brown wolf with yellow eyes. A howl in the distance caught the wolf's attention. It turned back and walked into the forest, disappearing just has Jason did earlier.
Aaron shot up. He took fast and heavy breaths. He rushed to the bathroom and stared himself in the mirror. He wiped the large amount of sweat off his face and wiped the tears off as well. He looked into his grey eyes, which were red and wet. He also had dark circles underneath, making him look ill or extremely tired.
Cleaning himself off, Aaron steadied himself and made his way back to their room, where his phone was. He remembered Jason got it for him as a birthday gift when they started dating. Aaron still had trouble with his phone, but to all his friends, he had improved greatly compared to when he first got it.
Aaron frowned as he stared at the phone. One of his worst fears was for him to predict something terrible happening to someone he loved and cared about, but not being able to do anything about it. Even if some people saw his dreams as superstitions, Aaron knew that his and his sibling's dreams were much more than just dreams.
Unlocking his phone, he called Jason's phone, biting his lip and wrapping his arm around himself as he listened to the ringing of the phone.
"Hey, I probably can't or don't want to answer your calls, so leave a message."
Aaron smiled at his husband's blunt voicemail, but still couldn't shake the feeling of his heart sinking.
He tried again, again, and again, but every time, he was sent to voicemail. At that point he couldn't control his emotions and conceal the horrible feeling in his chest. He didn't want to admit, but a voice in his head was yelling at him that Jason was either dead or seriously injured.
A tear escaped his eye and rolled down his cheek as he called Jason's number in one last attempt. He listened to the ringing of the with diminished hope of his husband answering. He stared out the window at the night sky as he sat on the edge of the bed. Once the voicemail came, he pressed the button to start a message.
With a shaky voice, he spoke. "Jason...I need you to call me back. I...I had a bad dream. I k-know how you are about them, but it was one where you looked as if you were hurt. And my dreams are usually right. Please...Please prove me wrong. You don't even have to call, just send me something that tells me that you're okay...I love you..Please come back home."
Aaron set down his phone and placed his face in his palms as his muffled cries echoed through his room and through their comfy home in the woods. Tears leaked through the cracks of his fingers and he curled into a ball as he cried all through the night.
A loud buzzing sound woke Aaron out of his sleep. He groaned and saw it was his phone ringing. He quickly perked up, hoping that it was Jason. He sighed when he saw that it was only his sister, Summer. The one who was taken in 1 year after he was.
"Hello?" he answered with a raspy voice.
"Aaron? Are you okay? Eudora said he had an odd dream about you and Jason."
Hearing that from his sister made Aaron feel slightly better. He was glad this his sisters could tell something was wrong and would check up on him. At the same time, he wasn't in the mood for talking. As horrible as it sounded, he wanted to stay in bed all day. He didn't want to act like Jason was dead, but maybe if he slept, he would have another dream that could tell where Jason was or how he was doing.
Still, he couldn't lie to his sisters about this.
"No..Not really. I had a dream like that too." he answered, wiping his tear stained, brown and white skin.
"Well, you don't sound too good. We're coming over."
"What? I'm not-"
"Too late." she said, right before hanging up.
Aaron went to go clean up his face. If his sisters really were coming over, he didn't want to look like a zombie. Or look as if he was in the process of turning into one.
He went to the bathroom and wiped his face, then proceeded to fix up his curly black-white-hair. He didn't bother going all the way and changing out his clothes. All he wore was a t-shirt and some pajama pants.
Aaron made his way to the kitchen, grabbing and putting a robe on to cover himself up from the cool breeze. He made some tea and put the pot on the stove, waiting for sisters to arrive. He didn't feel like making breakfast, so he would have to starve.
A few minutes, later, twenty three-year-old-Summer and sixteen-year-old Eudora came in. When Aaron and Jason first moved in, they made the mistake of trusting the two with an extra key to their home. Many times Summer would barge in early in the morning, and Eudora would walk in at the wrong times. The extremely wrong times.
Taking the pot off the stove, he poured his sisters some tea. Since they were all raised differently, they preferred natural food and ingredients over processed and factory food. They even preferred tea over coffee. The only reason any of them would have that kind of food was if they had a lover or spouse who liked it.
"You don't look well, Aaron. Are you guys okay? Where's Jason?" his baby sister asked.
Aaron looked into his cup, "Well...If it's okay, I would like to hear about the dream you had, Dora." he requested
Eudora rolled her eyes at the nickname, but looking at her brother's state, she continued, "It started out with what seemed to be a normal scene. Jason was in the forest hunting. Well it was a silhouette, but I knew from the green cap that he always wears. Anyway, suddenly it got dark and as it did, Jason started running. Then suddenly, there was a flash of lighting, and where Jason once was was a wolf running! Then it started raining really hard, but instead of clouds, it was you crying!"
Aaron blinked. It was similar to what he dreamed, but she must've seen or dreamt him crying last night.
"She woke up in a cold sweat last night." added Summer, placing a hand Eudora's. "She looked slightly frightened and was breathing a bit heavily. If she hadn't told me what she dreamt, I would've taken her to a..what's it called? A hospital?"
"I worried. I was worried that Jason got hurt. Or that you two were having trouble. Ever since Ximena, Damian, and Malachi left, you guys along with Jason have been my closest family. I didn't want anything bad to happen." Eudora admitted.
Eudora had been known as the most innocent out of the six siblings. It made sense since she was the youngest of them, too. She was stressed and confused and only 10 when the first two siblings, Damien and Ximena, had moved out and away. Aaron and Summer took it upon themselves to reassure that none of them were at fault.
Ever since then, the three of them made a pact to never leave one another like the other three easily did. Which was why Summer allowed Eudora to move in with her. They were in the forest as well, but in a different part that was also close to the outer city.
"Believe I wish that was the case. I have no idea where he is." Aaron responded.
"What? He didn't come home last night?" Summer asked.
Aaron shook his head. "No, and he wasn't out cheating or nothing. He stayed out hunting for a bit too long, and the dream I had didn't help one bit."
"What was it about?" Eudora asked, taking a sip of the tea.
"It was pretty similar to yours, but you dreamt my reaction as well. Jason went into the forest, looking all ready to hunt. The sky changes from morning to night, and then Jason comes out looking all beat and torn up. Then..."
"Then what?"
"Then he turned into a big brown wolf. In the distance, there was another wolf howling in the back. And as if it was being called by the other wolf, it turned and walked away. After that, I woke up in a cold sweat as well. Tears running down my face, hyperventilating. I tried calling Jason, but what eventually happened was me leaving a message and crying myself to sleep." Aaron answered. He drunk some tea and blinked back some tears as the horrid feeling from last night came back. "I..I don't know what I should do."
"I hate to say it, but we should wait until tomorrow morning to call someone. I have a feeling that Jason is out there, but not hurt." Summer suggested
"A-Are you sure?"
"No. Not one bit, but maybe he stayed somewhere for the night."
Eudora spoke up, "But wouldn't he call? If he didn't call last night, then maybe he really is in danger."
"You're right." Summer said to her little sister, "How about this evening? If he isn't back before you go to bed, then report him missing."
Aaron nodded. At that moment, he wanted to go back to sleep or at least lay down. Maybe if he slept, he would wake up and then be able to report Jason missing.
"Would you like it if we stayed with you? Maybe you can go out with us!" Eudora asked. She had a hopeful gleam in her eyes that Aaron just couldn't say no to.
"Eudora, honey, I don't that's a-"
"Sure." he quickly responded.
"Really?"
"Really. I do need to wait on Jason, but I need to spend more time with my siblings..Just let me get dressed."
After getting out the shower, Aaron put on a robe and headed straight for the kitchen. He enjoyed going out with his sisters, but they didn't take him out to eat and kept him out all day. It was shocking that he stayed up all day, seeing as he only got 3 hours of sleep and stayed up all night.
He decided to grab a couple of apples and chop them up before relaxing on the couch and watching the TV they bought a few months ago. Aaron began to hum a tune as he pulled out a green apple and a red apple, then a knife to slice them up. As he did, he felt a presence coming up, but it wasn't as close as Jason's would be on a normal day.
Ceasing his chopping and keeping the knife in his hand, Aaron turned around and looked all over the kitchen and dining room for a possible intruder. He even looked in part of the living room.
Aaron heard the front door knob shift and turn and the sound of keys jangling. His heart rate began to increase. He gripped the knife, even though he had a good feeling as to who was coming in. Very few people had keys to his and Jason's home.
The door slowly opened.
Aaron's heart stopped and his eyes widened. His lips twitched and he dropped the knife.
Jason had finally come home.
