In The Woods Somewhere : Just A Little
Chapter that didn't make the cut.
Six months have passed. Edan, Everest and Glory were close as ever. The full moon had finally passed. However the real trouble was just beginning.
The way Edan and Everest were living came in phases. Since they were stronger than most wolves it took them a while to complete these phases. Everest was beginning phase two and Edan was one or two months short of finishing it.
She questioned her choice to say with the two runaways everyday. She stopped the last two months. She stopped after she realized she was in live with a certain someone. With a certain Edan.
She sat on the worn mattress. Sick - dizzy and nauseous. Glory watched Edan clean his wound, with a grimace of pain on his face. A long deep cut from his elbow to his wrist. A rouge had scratched him a few weeks ago.
He looked up from under his lashes; feeling her eyes on him. He didn't say anything. He knew she liked to observe. Usually when she didn't say anything and just stare she had something on her mind. Often times she wanted to share. More often she wanted to keep those thoughts to herself. Edan always asked him case she wanted to share.
Glory rolled her shoulders, sore muscles aching. "I was wondering why we don't see rogues that often? I mean, back in my pack we were warned all the time of the danger of rogues. How they were savage and roamed every inch of the woods. I've been out of there for six months. I've encountered two rogues. I'm supposed to be in rogue paradise."
Edan dipped the bloody cloth in water. Thinking for a couple seconds. "I don't know."
He didn't have an answer for her because he's been wondering himself. "When we - me and Everest first left the pack. The woods - it definitely was - as you said rogue paradise. They'd attack at every angle. You relaxed for five minutes you were dead. After the first year we finally settled down - you know the scent concealer you got? We used it to hide our place. After that the rogues settled down."
There were parts of Glory that were amazed at how long Edan and Everest have been able to hide. It's been nearing six years since they left their pack. Almost five years since they've settled down here. Glory never would have thought that she'd be able to wait out her four years like this. She wasn't getting her hopes up - she knew that they'd have to up and go one day. For now though, she liked it how it was. She like it to stay that way.
"So you've only had problems with rogues for one year?" Glory was impressed. She thought when she left NightShape rogues would be her ultimate demise. It's the opposite of what she thought.
"Yeah. Pretty much," to took the pot of water. Lifting the animal fur away from the window and poured out the bloody water. "We still had some problems when we went hunting - they smelled us I guess. Slowly they started to lessen. In the last two years I've been attacked by three rogues. When we left our pack I was attacked by ten a day."
Glory furrowed her eyebrows. That was weird. "Maybe they got used to you."
"I think we were beginning to smell like them. The last three wolves that attacked me - it was in the last six months. I'm guessing they sensed you."
"That makes sense."
Everest entered the cabin, hands bloody and eyes shining. "Who's making dinner."
Edan cooked, as always. Glory didn't understand anything about making meat so it wasn't raw anymore; though it wouldn't have really mattered. Edan taught her some things. Everest however; did her best to stay away from the cooking pan as possible. Then she always ate the most. Edan let her get away with it because she caught most if the food. She often liked to go hunting. Everest was easily bored.
It was cold outside. The autumn air made goosebumps form on Glory's skin. Edan told her yesterday it was nearing winter time. Glory's always loved the winter time. Living in a cabin that could barely keep out the cold was not on her bucket list.
Most of their autumn days they either went hunting. Stocked up on firewood or carved out weapons such as arrows and spears. Preparing their dinner and cleaning the furs of the animals they have hunted. In the evenings they always sat by the fire. When it wasn't to cold they had their fires out side. In their cabin they left a pit in the floor so they could also have their fires in there; but reasonably enough they did it as little as possible.
Glory watched Edan place more twigs in the fire. Lately she hasn't been able to keep her eyes off of him. Every move he made - for some odd reason it captured her attention.
She liked the way his eyes looked when the evening fire burned. And his hair - Glory never pegged herself for the type of person who likes long hair on a male. Maybe she doesn't - maybe Edan just looked good that way. His hair was now shoulder length - maybe even longer. It looked golden under the lighting of the fire. like rays of sunshine she could actually stare at.
Her eyes trailed down his perfect body landing on his feet which were making themselves over to her. Barefoot as always. Glory was beginning to think he had no feeling in his feet.
He sat down beside her meeting her gaze. She smiled lightly - her cheeks tingling with warmth. She moved her gaze to the crackling fire. No matter how often she saw one burning it always managed to mesmerize her - like Edan. No matter how often she saw him he still managed to mesmerize her.
She leaned her head on his muscular shoulders. They had come a long way - Edan and Glory. First time they met they couldn't spend more than five minutes in a room with each other. Now five minutes in a room with each other is not nearly enough.
Glory's eyes landed on Everest. Her mismatched orbs gleamed as the fire reflected in them. Glory had never noticed how truly beautiful they were - sitting there staring at her - she never noticed how truly beautiful she was.
Her platinum colored hair was longer and thicker than they were when she first arrived here. Her eyebrows were dark, thick and shaped well. Despite not having touched them in five years. Her lips were full and pale - but still looked inviting even though they were slightly chapped and cracked. Glory never noticed til now - but she had freckles dotting her nose and cheeks. The clothes she wore were the same clothes she wore everyday. The black sleeveless shirt - mud and grass stained denim jeans. Even though she wore such clothing it suited her well - Everest seemed like the kind of female that could pull off everything.
Edan subtly wrapped his arms around Glory pulling her closer. Glory gladly snuggled closer. It wasn't everyday she could get this close to Edan - especially with Everest around.
Everest cocked her eyebrow at them - a sly smirk on her face. She took a swig of her wild rose tea which she usually saved for when one of them had the flu because it was good at fighting it. Apparently it had a high source of vitamin C. How she knew all those things Glory didn't know.
Edan rested his chin on top of Glory head. Still staring at the fire. Glory liked this feeling. He was so much bigger than her that her body was almost completely engulfed in his embrace.
He pressed a chaste kiss to her temple. Glory wasn't complaining but he never got this physical - in front of Everest that is.
His lips trailed down to the shell of her ear. Lingering everywhere, "lets go for a walk."
Glory looked up at him from under her eyelashes. Denying his request. She didn't miss the way his grip tightened his grip around around her - pulling her even closer. Some of his long fingers sneaking under her shirt. Caressing her hip bone with his thumb. Sending a army of goosebumps up her skin.
She wanted to punch him.
In front of Everest. She couldn't believe he was doing this in front of Everest.
They've had this thing going on the last month. Ever since the day at the lake everything was different between them. They craved each others touch. They wanted more than a simple brush of hands. More than a chaste kiss on the skin. So they pushed each other. They made each other want to cave.
They danced a dangerous dance. Making the other want more. What seemed like a simple tease burned their skin; aching for more. They were both to stubborn to admit it. They refused to be the first to give in. Whoever does give in. Has to complete their end of the deal. Tell their story. Non of them wanted that. So they tortured each other.
Certain moments were hard. Glory's once caved. If Everest hadn't interrupted her she would have spilled her secret she wanted no one to know. The reason she was here.
"Why not," he whispered. His voice laced with danger.
Glory glanced at Everest to see if she was hearing anything that was going on between the two. She was completely oblivious as she stared into the fire. She looked deep in thought.
Glory glanced at him from his lips to his emerald eyes. The way he looked at her. . . Her stomach turned.
She wanted him. She wished things weren't so complicated. She loved this male. Yet she couldn't do anything about it.
"Fine. Lets go."
He stood up. She followed taking Edan's hand as he helped her up. Stepping into the area consumed with trees. As soon as the were out of eyeshot he turned around suddenly, unexpectedly.
His breath hit her face, her eyes went wide and she backed up, her back hitting the dead tree. No leaves, no bark.
He didn't move. Neither did she. Her mind screamed at her. Telling her to move. She couldn't. Her palms flat on the thick three behind her, trying to claw the trunk. Nervous. She tried to back up more, almost standing on her toes.
She tried to calm her breathing. Why wasn't he moving?
His feet shuffled forward, barely, they were close enough already. He glanced at her lips just as a small breath escaped them.
His hand softly hit the tree above her head. The fist unraveled and his hand was pressed against the skinless tree. He closed his eyes, the ones Glory had fallen in love with. She watched his expression carefully.
He breathed slowly out of his nose, like he was trying to calm himself.
"Edan. . ." She whispered. Granted the courage to speak. She wanted to tell him to move.
"Shhh," his mouth twitched, like he was trying to figure something out. He was frustrated.
"Edan," she spoke, a little louder this time.
"Glory?" He asked in return. His eyes still closed, like they were about to open, head bowed.
"Yeah," still speaking quietly.
"Don't speak," he replied softly.
"Okay."
A harsh breath left his lips, onto his face. It was warm. He leaned on the tree using both hands, looking down on her.
This wasn't healthy, not for Glory. He was making her want him, that was one thing she didn't want to do.
Edan's forehead brushed hers before their lips touched momentarily. Glory swallowed, her breaths flowed into the air faster.
Before she could say something her hands were pinned above her head. He clearly had a little of that werewolf speed left. His hands were big, one held both Glory's wrists and kept them against the tree trunk, the other - his knuckles caressed her cheekbone, lightly - delicately. He dragged his knuckle down her cheek to her jaw, in a slow way that was almost torturous, and thumb doing the same. When his thumbs reached her chin it slid up and ran it across her lower lip a few times - Sensual - His hand he used to retain Glory let go of its grip. Leaving her complete unaware of what to do, but she was to caught up in his eyes - in the feeling of his hands, to care.
Her eyes fluttered shut when his fingertips touched her skin. On her cheeks by the corner of her lips. Slowly more and more of his fingers left her skin untouched before each hand cupped her cheeks. One hand leaving leaving her body for a second to move her hair out of the way.
Glory's breathing had calming, she gripped Edan's wrist as if to pull his hand off her. Her eyes stared longing into his. She bit her lip, sinking her teeth into the soft flesh innocently. With her free hand she reached up and let her fingers run through his long hair, he watched her eye movement, he liked the way she was intrigued with his hair.
She tugged it ever so slightly, he liked it. It made him want her more. So he put his forehead on hers, their breathing the only thing that could be heard, the only thing they bothered to hear.
Edan's thumbs caressed her cheekbones as he cupped her jaw. Glory slowly wrapped her arms around him, there was still a nagging in the back of her mind he was going to leave her, that he didn't want her.
He wasn't always nice, but she knew he wasn't that cruel.
But her self-conscious thoughts didn't matter anymore before he put his lips on hers.
Gone with the wind. And it would need a tornado to bring them back.
His lips weren't that soft. Not soft like Avery's. But Avery was the last thing on her mind. Edan was her center of attention.
His lips moved, hers moved with them without realizing it. She wanted this.
It was slow, like the process, but it was worth every second.
