Chapter 6

With how exhausted the two friends had been when they first arrived at Phil's base, it was no suprise that the later was the first one to wake up. It did gave him a little heart attack to suddenly see two more people in his house when he woke up, not used to have someone besides his crow around him.

He looked at the two sleeping people, waiting a few moments for his limbs to wake up and his heart to calm down again. George was sprawled out on his bed, one arm hanging off the side and the blanket tangled around his legs. Dream was curled up under his blanket, face buried in his pillow. His mask had shifted, barely hanging on to the top of his head as his face was half hidden by the fluffy white sheets, but not fully. Blade was curled up against him, nuzzled into the sheets as well.

Phil got up and made his way over to Dream's bed, carefully guiding the mask back over his face as much as he could without waking the other up. The man hadn't taken it off the whole time he had been here, so he must be insisting on keeping his face hidden for now. Can't really blame him for that. It's his choice when and if he feels comfortable to show himself to his friends. He remembers how nervous Techno had been when they facetimed for the first time.

Usually Phil would make himself breakfast and sometimes share it with Brian if the bird wanted it, but it was a little difficult to move around with the two extra beds standing in the middle of the room, blocking his way to the little spot he made to act as a kitchen of sorts. And he really didn't want to wake up the other two. So instead, he snuck out the door to let them sleep a bit longer.

The sun was already up and warming his skin, the soft sound of the water around his base creating a peacefully calm atmosphere. Sometimes a stray mob would stay in the water to not burn, but that one would quickly be dealt with by Brian coaxing them away from the base.

Phil stretched and yawned, rubbing the last traces of sleep out of his eyes. For a second he just stood there, pondering over what he should do until everyone was awake. His gaze turned to the still messy looking storage, where some stray tools were blocking the entrance. "Guess I should fix that first."

It wasn't a difficult task, but it kept his mind busy with something other than the constant worry about other people being here too... and that they could be hurt. His friends... Wilbur or Techno or even the teens could be out there fighting for their life.

Brian landed on his shoulder, gently tugging at a strand of hair to try and distract him. "I know... but you can't blame me for worrying." The crow cooed and cuddled close, rubbing his head against his owner's cheek. Phil just smiled and leaned into the touch. "Love you too. I'm glad to have you here with me. I'd probably go crazy without you."

Black feathers fluff up as the crow cooed again, remaining on Phil's shoulder while he sorted out the mess in his storage, keeping him entertained with terrible jokes or made up stories about temples with mountains of beautiful shiny things. You know, crow stuff.

Dream woke up to the sun shining into his face. He groaned and turned away from the light, sleep still fogging his mind. An annoyed huff made him crack open an eye, just to see Blade staring up at him with tired eyes. He must have woken him up on accident. "Sorry..." The pig let his head fall back down onto the bed and sighed happily when Dream stroked through the fur on his head. It made him smile, already about to doze off again himself.

That was, until he heard a crash from outside, followed by a quiet "Fuck!" afterwards. He sat up in his bed and looked out the window, spotting Phil kneeling on the ground, next to a chest that had obviously fallen down, it's contents spilling onto the ground. His crow cawed and started to help by picking up stones with it's talons and let them fall into the chest.

George groaned and slowly sat up too, rubbing his eyes. Dream quickly raised a hand to his face and checked if his mask was still in place, which it suprisingly was. "What was that?" "Phil dropped a chest outside I think..." The younger man pulled the blanket off of him and got out of bed, since there was no point in going back to sleep. He did allow Blade to remain curled up in the blanket, covering him back up once he got out of bed. Something he often did for Patches too, if she was too tired to follow him to the kitchen immediately.

The brunette flopped back down onto the bed, a small groan leaving him when his shoulder made contact with the mattress. "Come on... why can't Minecraft logic also apply to wounds..." "I dunno... would be too easy I guess." Dream slipped on his boots and stretched. "I'll go help Phil. Scream if you need something." "Mm..." He laughed when seeing George half asleep again before opening the door and walking outside.

Phil had just finished piling all the items back into the chest and closed the lid. "You need help?" "Huh?" The blonde looked over his shoulder. "Shit. I woke you up, didn't I?" "Not really. It was more the sun blinding me..." The masked man knelt down and helped the older lift the chest and stack it on top of the other ones in the storage, this time it didn't fall back down. "Are you okay?" "Oh yeah, it wasn't even close to hitting me. Just scared the shit out of me." Brian perched himself on top of the chests and squawked at the blonde, who just swatted at him with his hand half-heartedly. "Oh fuck off you little shit. It wasn't my fault."

"Wait... you can actually talk to the crow, I mean Brian?" Phil nodded with a grin, his bird companion now sitting on his shoulder again. "I can! It was so fucking scary the first time I actually heard him talk, but it was better than being completely by myself." He reached up to scratch at the soft feathers on top of Brian's head. A small part of Dream was a little jealous that Phil could understand his companion while he couldn't.

"Cool... cool... Soooo... What's the plan for today?" Phil hummed and turned away from the stacked chests. "I don't know... I considered going mining again. I'm running out of coal and we could get you guys some diamond stuff too." Dream looked over to the staircase that leads underground, small shivers running up his spine. Phil notices his hesitation and reaches up to pat his shoulder. "It's safe, I promise. Fully lit up and no caves... But if you're too nervous, you can stay up here with George. He shouldn't come along if we do this... I'm not a medical expert, but I'm pretty sure mining with a damaged shoulder can't be a good idea."

Dream nodded and looked over to the small house, where you could see George still asleep through the window. It's either stay here and basically do nothing or help Phil gather resources that will help them survive. Pretty obvious what is the right choice here. "I think he'll be alright on his own up here. He'll probably sleep the whole time anyways." "So that's a yes to coming along?" "Sure. We'll be able to get a lot more stuff if we go together... Inventory space and all that."

Phil opened up one of the chest, handing Dream an iron pickaxe and an iron chestplate. "I didn't make a diamond pick yet or even an enchantment table for fortune... so iron is the best we can do right now." "That's perfectly fine. No one expects you to have everything in this game already. I'm more impressed that you already have all this stuff. "Well... I have to keep myself busy somehow."

Phil opened his inventory and sorted through his stuff, dragging his own iron chestplate into his armor slot. The shiny metal appeared on his body now, a chestplate materializing in front of his eyes. "Yeah I know. It's kinda weird, but you get used to it." Dream copied the action, feeling the heavy chestplate appear on his body. "It's heavy..." "I know... I only wear it when I go underground." The older man started to rummage through a different chest and grabbed a bunch of torches.

"Do you have a weapon?" Dream glanced down at the diamond sword on Phil's hip before opening his inventory again. "I have a stone sword... that's it." Phil hummed and grabbed some iron, walking over to his crafting table. A few seconds later, he holds out a new sword for the other. "And now you have an iron one." For a second he just watched the blade glitter in the sunlight, then he took it and threw the stone one away.

"Alright. This should be everything we need. Let's go." Without wasting another moment, the two made their way over and down the stairs that lead into the dangerous world of mining for resources.
