chapter two!!!

Maka eyes slowly opened as a blinding light caressed her face. The light reminded her of a certain spot in the DWMA, the infirmary. 'How did I get here?' she wondered. 'Last thing I remember is walking up the stairs of the DWMA, so how did I get here?'

   "Oh look! Maka's up"

Maka recognized that voice. It was always so sweet and so kind to Maka and all of her friends, sometimes she felt like she cared about her enough to be more than friends. . .

   "Tsubaki?" Maka smiled. "What happened-"

"I am here! The almighty BlackStar who will one day surpass god!" yelled the blue haired boy, who also happened to be a friend of Maka's. The meister smiled, at least she had her friends here with her.

"Be quiet BlackStar," Tsubaki said in a firm, yet still polite way.

Maka raised her body up and sat up and looked all around the room. She saw BlackStar, Tsubaki and Soul. 'Huh I wonder where Death the kid is?' she thought to herself. "Oh Soul, did you get your motorcycle put away?" the blonde haired girl asked.

Soul looked a little upset at the question, 'Did I say something wrong?'

Soul nodded his head, in all honesty he thought it was his fault. If I had just gone with Maka, if he hadn't left her to go by herself. Why did I bother with my bike, it's just a bike.

"Soul are you okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine Maka," he replied. 'I've already caused enough trouble, I don't want to make her worry anymore.'

"The real question is are you okay Maka?" Tsubaki asked as she leaned over the bed and got a little closer to Maka. "You had me so worried!"

"I think so?" she replied. "Although to be honest I still don't know what happened,"

Tsubaki cast a worried glance at Soul, he nodded.

"You passed out Maka," Tsubaki said.

"I was able to figure that much out," she grumbled under her breath. 'Why aren't they telling me what's going on?"

"All from a little rain!" Blackstar laughed, "I am the meister who will one day surpass god, simple rain can't hurt-"

Blackstar's weapon elbowed him in the side, "shh!" she hissed under breath.

Maka felt confused and left out. 'Why aren't they telling me what happened' "Guys! What's going on? Why aren't you telling me anything that happened earlier?"

Soul sighed, "I knew we would have to tell you sooner or later," she had always been like that. Always looking for answers at the worst possible times.

Tsubaki gave Soul a reassuring smile as Blackstar jumped to the ground and began to do push ups. "This is not the time for this Blackstar!"

Blackstar frowned and stood back up. "So are we going to tell her or not? We don't have all day!" he said, getting a little annoyed. Maka agreed, she still had other unanswered questions as well.

Tsubaki made another quick glance at Soul and smiled, "You passed out Maka. Soul found you on the steps and he got really worried. So, he carried you up the stairs,"

Maka blushed from embarrassment, 'he had to carry me up the stairs? Geesh, this is turning into a really bad day'

"At the entrance of the DWMA he saw doctor Stein," Tsubaki continued.

"Why was Stein outside?" Maka questioned.

"He was smoking," Soul replied.

"Oh that makes sense," Maka muttered. She didn't understand why he smoked, as a scientist he had to understand how bad it was for him.

"This story is getting boring! Why can't I tell it??" Blackstar whined.

"Be quiet Blackstar, I'll be done in a minute," his weapon responded. "Stein and Soul took you back to the infirmary and in the hallways along the way he met up with me and-"

"This is where I finally come in! It gets a lot more exciting from here on out," Blackstar grinned.

Soul sighed, "Let's get this over with and just tell her already. No need to drag it out any longer,"

Maka glanced at Soul. He had been strangely quiet for the last few minutes and now he seemed to have a strange look in his eyes. 'Upset? No, can't be. Maybe upset? No it's not that either. More like disappointed. . .' Maka thought to herself.

"After that we finally get you to the infirmary and Doctor Stein does his best to treat you,"

'His best?' Maka thought 'What's that supposed to mean? He's a genius, he's stitched numerous people back together. . . If he wanted to he could treat me in no time,"

Soul seemed to notice her confusion," He doesn't know what was wrong with you," he said with his back leaning up against the wall.

Maka's face showed concern, and rightfully so. 'This is bad, Even Doctor Stein doesn't know what was wrong,'

Tsubaki could tell Maka was stressed by the way her face looked, over all the years they had been friends she had become very good at reading her expressions. "It's okay Maka! We'll get him to figure out what happened to you in no time and you'll be back to normal,"

Maka smiled, "Thank you Tsubaki," the kind words meant alot to her. She obviously cared about all of her friends, but for some reason Tsubaki was extra special. Anything she told Maka hit so much harder than what Soul, Blackstar, DTK, Patty or Liz would say.

The door to the infirmary swung open and Maka immediately looked to see who it was.

"Speak of the devil," Soul chuckled.

"Oh hello doctor Stein!" Tsubaki smiled at their professor.

"Hello professor," Maka also greeted the man. He was a man in his thirties, with grey hair and a bolt sticking out of his head. His appearance was not one you could easily forget. "Also uhh. . . thank you for helping me earlier," the girl said. She didn't like admitting that she needed help from others and thanking others for that help was equally hard.

"Oh it's no problem, That's my job after all. Considering that our last school nurse turned out to be a witch," he said and brought his cigarette to his lips.

The memory was still fresh in all of their minds. Previously their school nurse was secretly a witch who just used the title as a school nurse as a cover up for her experiments and such.

Tsubaki seemed to notice the anger in Maka, out of anyone she definitely hated Medusa the most. "Yep!" she said "I'm so glad you helped her, all of us were so worried!"

"I was not," Blackstar huffed. "I'll be the one to kill god right? My friends would never be so weak,"

"Weren't you so worried that you were crying?" Soul questioned.

"I was not!"

Stein chuckled, "You sure are a lively bunch. Especially with everything that's going on. Even Lord Death is worried, I just got back from the death room,"

For a moment everything was quiet, "Damnit!" the professor yelled. Maka looked at him surprised, "I was supposed to ask him if he had any idea about your condition, but I forgot"

' So even Doctor Stein is confused,' she thought. "So even you don't know what's wrong?" she questioned.

"Well i have an idea," he said as he sat down in one of the rolly chairs in front of Maka's bed. "It probably has something to do with what's happening right now. Soul said the rain seemed to burn you, which is rather strange."

"Why is that?"

"It happened to nobody else, that's why I consider it to be odd."

Maka remembered now, it seemed to have no effect on Soul or Blaire. And obviously Blackstar and Tsubaki were uninjured. The doctor seemed to have a perplexed look on his face, like he was thinking very seriously about her condition.

Dr Stein shrugged, "Beats me," he sighed.

Tsubaki looked at him with a worried expression, "You don't have any idea? At all?" she was worried for Maka, out of all of her friends she felt closest to her.

"I have a few ideas," Stein said as he puffed out of his cigarette "But none of them have any real evidence to back them up, as of now I don't have much. They're all just hypothesizes,"

"Well what are they?" Maka questioned.

"I think it'd be worse to tell you hypotheses with nothing to back them up, than to tell you nothing at all. Anyways Maka should be fine," truth be told stein had grown very attached to his students, especially this bunch. They had been through so much and with every encounter they had become stronger, he really did hope Maka would be okay. Still there were more important things to focus on right now.

'Should be fine. . .' Tsubaki though 'I really hope she's okay,'

Maka hopped out of the hospital bed, only to realise how much her legs and back hurt 'Ugh this sucks,' she thought to herself "I've defeated the kishin after all, standing up shouldn't be this difficult," she grumbled under her breath.

"What did you say Maka?" Soul asked and looked at her, obviously worried about his meister.

"Oh nothing," she laughs, trying to hide the pain she was in. She didn't want to worry her friends, suddenly her legs gave out from the pain and she fell to the ground, "Ow!" Soul and everyone else looked over to Maka, especially Stein, who seemed rather concerned.

Tsubaki rushed over from where she was standing(which was beside Blackstar who had been oddly quiet lately) and rushed over to Maka. "Maka are you okay? Tsubaki said as she reached a hand down to Maka.

"Yeah I'm fine," she said as she took Tsubaki's hand and stood up, she had done this so many times, with many different people but or some reason this time she seemed to get butterflies in her stomach. She was confused, Soul had helped her get up multiple times but she had never felt this way when he helped her.

"Are you sure Maka?" Tsubaki asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine! No need to worry, I'm just tired," she said. Stein arguably looked the most confused by this and he raised his eyebrows and looked at Maka. She noticed this and glanced over at him and gave a vaguely threatening smile(think something like 'Professor Stein please stfu and don't say or anything right now). He took the hint and gave an awkward wave to the group of kids.

"Well I'll be over here organizing papers and such for the time being, so feel free to talk or whatever," he said. Within a few minutes he would need to make sure they all went to where the rest of the kids were, so this was mainly him killing time. As Stein said this Maka sat on top of the bed that she had been laying in a few minutes prior. Tsubaki looks at Maka and points at the bed and Maka smiles and nods her head, Tsubaki sits down beside her.

"Ughh! I'm tired of all of this mushy gushy stuff! Can't we just go kick some bad guys asses already?" Blackstar complained.

Soul chuckled, "Your friend passes out and after she wakes up the first thing you want to do is fight. You need some work," he says playfully.

Blackstar laughs back in response, "You're right! I want to figure out whoever hurt Maka and caused this and then we can fight them!"

Maka smiled, she was so glad to have friends that cared about her so much.

"I'm so happy you're okay Maka! I was so worried about you!" Tsubaki says as she engulfed her in a hug. It felt so. . . warm and kind?

"You two are awfully close," Stein commented.

Tsubaki pulled away from Maka and shook her head, "Oh it nothing like that sir," Tsubaki assured the professor.

"Oh yeah defiently. . ." Maka agreed, rather sadly. Stein being generally uninterested in their conversation turned away and began going through the filing cabinet. Part of Maka was disappointed at what Tsubaki had said, and Tsubaki felt the same way about Maka's response. It hurt her a bit more than she thought it would when Maka agreed.

They sit around and mindlessly chat for another few minutes, but there's a certain atmosphere in the air. Maka and Tsubaki are slightly upset and confused at why they're upset, Soul feels bad over Maka's condition and Blackstar is just there. . .

"Well," Doctor Stein says as he stands up "it'd be best if we all got going now. I'll take you to where all of the other kids are staying for the time being,"

They all agreed, I mean why would they disagree? Maka stands up and immediately remembers the pain her legs are in, Doctor Stein seems to notice this immediately and casts a "Do you need any help look?" over to her. To this she shakes her head no, as mucha s she could use the hell she didn't know how she could get the help without seeming weak. Soul notices shortly after Stein and seems to understand hats going through her mind. In an attempt to help her he sort of stands in a way to where she can position most of her weight on him(which would make it a little easier to walk) without looking too odd.

"Thank you Soul," Maka whispers as they continue to follow Stein through the school hallways. Finally they arrive at the location, which just so happened to be the "ballroom" as Maka liked to call it. It was the large room that the party where the kishin was revived occurred. Maka noticed what looked to be like most of the students there.

"Just stay here for awhile," Stein said as he blew out of his cigarette "I'll be back later, until then just chill out or whatever you call it," and with that he walked off.

"Chill? How are we supposed to stay "chill" in a situation like this?" Maka asked, a little annoyed.

"It'll be fine Maka, just calm done," Soul assured her.

"Well if you say so," she says hesitantly.

Maka looked around to notice that Blackstar had run off, presumably to fight someone, and Tsubaki was chasing after him. She laughed, 'Maybe this isn't so bad for the time being,' she thought.

And that's a wrap!!! I promise the next chapter will be more interesting! This one was going to have a lot more in it, but it would end up being like 12 pages and I couldn't finish that tonight.
