chapter one/prolouge !!!!

Maka smiled as the morning sunlight fell across her face, it was a new day, and it would be amazing-

"Maka!" Soul yelled. Maka was still laying in her bed and looked over at her alarm clock, 'have I overslept?' she thought. The alarm clock read 8:03am, so she hadn't overslept. It was a Saturday; this was a normal time to get up. "Maka!" Soul yelled again as he opened the door to her room. She felt surprised and honestly a little upset. He hadn't even knocked, she thought Soul knew how important personal space was to her.

"What? Do you have no concept of personal space, at least knock first!" she said rather annoyed, as she sat up in her bed. When she looked at Soul, she noticed how serious his face looked and she became concerned. Most of the time he didn't have such a serious mood about him. Maka became worried, "Soul, what-"

"Maka, get out of bed, it's not safe here."

"What? Are you going to answer me? What's going on?" she said, upset that he didn't answer her questions.

"I don't have time to explain, Maka!" he said, and he genuinely looked worried. "Please just get ready and pack your bags,"

"Bags? What do I bring? How much time do we have? Where are we going? Where's Spirit? Are we moving? What's-"

"Maka, we don't have time for this! Just bring what you'd bring on a vacation for a few days or something," Soul said.

Maka sighed, "Okay," she got up from her bed and checked the clock again. It was 8:05am, "I expect answers when we get out of here, or I'll give you the Maka chop!" she grinned and walked over to her door where Soul was standing.

He grinned, "I wouldn't want that to happen," and it seemed like he was back to his cool and normal self. "Be done in five minutes, we'll have to go. We're already cutting it close right now,"

Maka was still confused, but despite this the girl began to pack her bags. She grabbed an old backpack from a camping trip that she'd taken with her parents when she was younger. Inside she stuffed a pair of pajamas, a few changes of clothes, some books, a pack of playing cards and a few other things. She ran to the bathroom where she changed and got the necessary toiletries. With her phone in her pocket and her backpack she ran outside. As soon as she came outside, she started to feel a bit sick, it was like there wasn't enough air for her lungs. Looking over her shoulder she saw Soul and Blaire(in her cat form) on the seat of his motorcycle.

"What's she doing here?" Maka asked, confused about why the cat was riding with them.

"Like I said it's not that safe here and I would feel bad leaving her here"

"Are you sure you just don't want to see her-"

Blaire meowed and before you could have said anything she was back into her human form, wearing yet another skimpy outfit. Soul was a little surprised and he got a minor nosebleed at the site of her. "As much as I appreciate it, I'll be fine on my own," she purred.

"Unless you want me to come-"

"No," Maka said. She didn't have time to deal with Blaire today. "We'll be good thank you very much,"

"Well if you change your mind, I'll be here waiting for you scythey boy!" she grinned and slid off the bike making room for Maka. Maka took the notion and hopped on the bike and they zoomed off.

"So, what's going on?" Maka coughed, each breath was harder than the last.

"Have you not noticed?" Soul asked. Maka shook her head. "Look at the sky,"

Maka glanced up. The heavens were a deep red and the gloomy storm clouds brewing made it seem rather ominous. "Oh! So that explains why I was having trouble breathing," Maka muttered to herself. "But still, what's going on Soul?"

"I don't know exactly," he said as the motorcycle picked up speed. "All I know is it's not safe to be here. When I woke up this morning you dad told me that all students needed to come to the school as fast as possible. Then he just left,"

Maka groaned, "Just what I expect from him," she seemed even more done with her dad this morning then most days. "Why didn't he just tell me? He's always bothering me and we both know I'm more responsible,"

"Wow that's harsh," he mumbled. But he knew she was right. Maka was always on top of her school work and anything else she needed to do. "He said that he tried to, but you just wouldn't budge. I was a little surprised,"

So was Maka, she was a very light sleeper, it didn't take much to wake her up.

   "Are you sure?"

"Yeah I was a little surprised," he chuckled. "It's a bit surprising that I was up before you," he looked back at maka, she seemed ill. "Maka, are you okay?" he questioned.

"Yeah," she said. Ironically enough right after saying those words she began to feel even worse. Her small headache that she'd had ever since waking up turned into a horrible migraine. "I'll be okay,"

Soul knew that most likely wasn't true. She didn't like to show her weaknesses, even to her own friends. "Okay, we'll be there soon." Soul stepped on the gas and the motorcycle picked up speed as Maka gripped her arms tighter around Soul's torso. Moments later she felt a cold drop on her back. It burned. Maka's head swung around to look at where it came from. Another one fell, this time on her arm and it burned more than the last.

"Did you feel that?" Maka asked and Soul nodded in response. "Soul what's going on?"

"I don't know. I'm guessing this has something to do with the sky, maybe it's raining?"

"Raining acid?" Maka asked, somewhat annoyed. How did he not understand that rain didn't usually burn your skin.

"Acid?" Soul asked confused. 'Where did she get acid from?'

"Yes acid! Do you not feel it burning you?"

Soul shook his head. "Maka are you okay? It doesn't burn. . ."

Maka hissed from the pain of the rain(?) on her skin, "Yes it does Soul! It really burns,"

Soul shook his head, 'Maybe she has a lower tolerance to it then me?'

"Just hang in there we'll be to the DWMA soon," Soul said. And he was correct, within a minute him and Maka had arrived at the DWMA. Maka slid off the motorcycle, obviously in pain. But she didn't like showing her weaknesses or having them mentioned by others so for the time being the white haired boy didn't mention it.

   "Maka,"

"What is it Soul?" she asked.

"You go ahead and go inside, I need to park my motorcycle."

"No! I'm worried about you Soul," she replied. The rain burned every fiber of her body but she also cared about her friend. She did not want him getting hurt.

"It should only take a minute,"

"Fine," she sighed. "But if you're gone for too long I'm going to come look for you,"

"Alright I'll see you soon,"and with that they departed. He was worried about Maka, the rain hardly hurt him but for some reason it burned her. As soon as he got inside he would talk to doctor Stein.

Maka went up the stairs of the DWMA and Soul headed towards a spot very close by to keep his bike. He still did not know what was going on entirely, and if he could help it he wanted to keep his bike in good condition. Still, he was more worried about maka. Was it really a good idea for him to leave her alone, maybe he should go back with her. His head whipped around in search of her, yet Maka was nowhere to be seen. Soul brushed it off and assumed she was already inside.

Yet that was not entirely the case. Maka ran up the stairs as fast as she could, desperate to stay out of the acid rain. Each step she took burned her lungs(and skin) even more than the last. She was so confused, it wasn't like she was unathletic. In Fact she was at the top of her class, running up stairs shouldn't be putting her out of breath. Her body felt like it was being burned alive and each step became more painful then the last. As she ran it seemed as if each step took a thousand moments to pass. Maka then tripped over a crack in the stairs and she fell to the ground. At the same time, her bag fell off of her shoulders and stumbled down the stairs.

"Oww," she grumbled. Pain erupted in her knee, which had fallen and hit the harsh stairs. Her headache erupted and the pain worsened. The rain began to fall faster than it had before. With every droplet her body burned and her lungs felt like they were on fire. Maka tried to crawl up off of her knees and grab her bag, she had to get up. It was only rain, she had to get up.

But she didn't. Her vision began to cloud like a window on a rainy day and everything went black.
