Traveling With Halloween Pajamas
Frank sat in the room on the tardis given to him by the Doctor. As he looked down at his Halloween themed pajamas, he began to reconsider the rushed decision he made earlier.
He didn't even know this guy, and he had agreed to travel through space and time with him? He didn't even have a proper name. What would Frank's parents of thought if they knew he had just run off like this?
Well, not that they would believe him, but still.
He didn't even consider what could come as a result of this. What if he got lost in time? What if this 'Doctor' guy really was going to probe him? He could die out here... Wherever here was...
Frank let out a breath of air, looking around his small room. There was a bed (with light bedding), a nightstand, and several shelves lining the wall. It felt a bit empty, but no more empty that what he had left behind. Although, he kind of wished he would of grabbed some of his vinyls.
"What have I gotten myself into?.." Frank mumbled to himself, falling back on his bed. He didn't even have a change of clothes. He really thought this one through...
He looked up at his ceiling, seeing a picture of the galaxy. He watched it for awhile before noticing it was slowly moving and swirling.
"Woah..." He let out, softly, watching the scene change over and over again. After awhile, he felt himself growing tired. His blinks became longer as the sky continued to swirl. Soon, he was snoring lightly with the galaxy looking down on him.
---
The Doctor casually steered the Tardis as they made their way to the world of the small creature in the glass container next to the control panel. He looked down at it, making a soft clicking sound. It beat the glass wall of its prison in response.
"Grouchy!" The Doctor snapped his attention back to the control panel. "Can't wait to set you loose."
He quickly finished setting the coordinates and turned to look around the area surrounding the control panel. It was all so familiar, yet brand new at the same time. These new eyes were just so eager to take everything in, all over again. Every glowing circle, every dangling cord, and every winding staircase leading up to the octagon shaped platform. Even the dull orange hues of light that lead to bright blues.
"You beautifully, sexy thing." He grinned. He tapped the control consul before walking over to the railed staircase. He leaned against it, looking down at the level below. "I could never get tired of looking at you..."
He stood there for a minute more before pushing himself up to an upright position. He hurried up the steps and began walking down a long hallway of doors.
Frank's room was somewhere along this row of rooms. The Doctor had placed him somewhere just beyond the library. The human seemed to like the room, but it may of also been the exhaustion of being awoken in the middle of the night by a big blue box in his bathtub.
The Doctor walked past the library's grand doors, counting the ones after until he found Frank's room. He knocked lightly before pushing it open to peak inside.
Frank was, as the Doctor expected, asleep on the bed. He was laying on his back, facing the ceiling. The Doctor looked up and grinned.
"Ah, you sweet ol' girl..." He laughed, softly. The ceiling was still swirling with colorful galaxies. That had to have been what Frank fell asleep to.
The Doctor looked back down at Frank. His legs were bent at strange angles, but it must of been comfortable for him since he was snoring lightly. The hood of his sweater was under his head like a makeshift pillow. He really didn't want to disturb the human, so he left the room without another word. He walked back down the hallway to the octagon platform.
The noises of the tardis had ceased, indicating that they had landed. The Doctor walked over to the door and pushed it open. He was greeted by a dark landscape with tall, dark trees and small, shimmering specs of light. The Doctor peaked up at the sky to see miles of stars in the night sky.
"This is quite the night sky you have." The Doctor commented as he turned back to the inside of his ship. He began hurrying back up the steps of the stairs to get the small, dark creature. "I bet you've missed this."
The small creature pressed itself against its container, looking eagerly out at the space that the tardis doors opened up to. The Doctor chuckled, preparing to open the lid.
"Go on, less trouble here." He spoke as he held the container outside of his ship, watching the small creature shoot out. It flew into the darkened sky, quickly disappearing. The Doctor leaned against the doorframe, watching the moving balls of lights and the stars.
He watched for just a bit longer before pushing himself up and shutting the door. He loved the beauty of new planets. Each was unique. He just didn't think this was the best first planet for his new companion to explore with him. He strolled up the stairs and hurried to the control panel. He pulled a lever and slammed his hand into a button.
"I haven't been to the 1890's in awhile." He mused, setting the coordinates. "Wonder if Frank will like that..."
"Like what?"
The Doctor turned to see Frank leaning on the upper railing. He was using his sweater sleeve to wipe sleep away from his eye.
"Frankie, boy! Have a nice nap?" The Doctor asked with a grin.
Frank raised his eyebrow. "Frankie?" He asked before yawning.
The Doctor nodded, "Yea! Frankie, it's a nickname."
"Aren't nicknames supposed to be shorter?"
"I figured you were short enough already." The Doctor said with a wave of his hand. He gestured for Frank to come down the steps onto the platform. Frank rolled his eyes and complied.
"What's the noise?" He asked, shoving his hands in his sweater pocket.
"The tardis." The Doctor replied, "Means we're moving."
"Where to?" Frank inquired, looking up at the tubing, lights, and wires exposed from the ceiling. It really was a marvel that it could take all of this through space and time... Or so the Doctor claimed.
"Eighteen nineties." The Doctor replied, "Haven't been in awhile, doubt you have in your lifetime."
Frank laughed. "You've got me there. I was a nineties baby."
"How old does that make you? I'm not quite too sure what year I landed in when I crushed your bathtub. Sorry again, by the way."
"If this actually works, consider it water under the bridge." Frank shrugged, "Especially since my tub can't hold it in anymore." He laughed, "I'm twenty four."
The Doctor rolled his eyes. He began tugging at his suit jacket, looking through the pockets as the tardis' noise quieted. He pulled out a small black booklet, flipping it open to reveal a blank paper.
"What's the point of that?" Frank asked, curiously getting a glimpse of a faint name before it faded to nothing.
"Psychic paper." The Doctor replied, "Helps when I'm in some sticky situations." He looked at the tardis' control panel and grinned. "We're here! You woke up just in time, let's go!"
The Doctor hurried to the door, but Frank was hesitant. "Ahh... Doctor?" He waved, nervously. "I'm still in pajamas."
The Doctor stopped and tilted his head at Frank. "Ahh... So you are." He chuckled, pointing to the pumpkin pajama pants. He looked Frank up and down for a moment before snapping his fingers. "I've got something for you!" He ran off, leaving Frank to walk down the stairs with curiosity.
The time lord rushed back with a black shirt, black jeans, and a green jacket with yellow and black stripped sleeves. He held them out to Frank with a child like grin.
"Wear these! I never much liked the style for myself. This regeneration really prefers blues and reds."
"You're strange." Frank commented, taking the clothes. "Thank you, though."
Frank ran back up the steps to change in his room. When he came back a few minutes later, the Doctor had a nervous look on his face.
"What's up?" Frank asked, tugging the jacket onto his arms. The Doctor looked up at him with a nervous laugh.
"Frankie! Ah, minor miscalculation on my part with where we landed, I'm afraid." The Doctor scratched the back of his head.
"How bad off?" Frank asked.
"Hundred years? Give or take..."
Frank looked at the time lord curiously. "What planet?" He asked, remembering that this ship could travel through space and time.
"Yours!" The Doctor said, "Just, right around the time you were just an idea in your mother's head."
"Nineties?" Frank laughed, "That's rad! What a time to be alive."
The Doctor perked up with Frank's excitement. The miscalculation really wasn't so bad. The human hurried over to the door and pulled it open. He laughed, happily, stepping out into the world. The Doctor followed, watching the marvel on Frank's face.
"This is actually happening. This is actually the-look at their haircuts!" Frank laughed, looking at people across the street from the alley the tardis was residing in.
"Didn't believe me, did you?" The Doctor asked, leaning against the tardis with a smirk on his face.
Frank turned to him with an amazed expression. "I mean, it's unbelievable! Time and space..."
"Believe it, Frankie." The Doctor laughed, triumphantly. "There's more where this came from, as well."
"You have to show me." Frank begged the Doctor, "I can't believe... You have to show me, please."
"In time, Frank." The Doctor laughed, "We have plenty of it."
Frank grinned widely. He began walking back over to the tardis when a door of one of the buildings on either side of them shot open.
"He ain't here, Urie, beat it!" A voice yelled, threateningly as a slim figure was forced into the alley.
The figure fell to the ground, face first. He scrambled up to his feet, rushing to get to the now closed door.
"Please!" He hit the door four times with a pleading tone in his voice. "I just need to find him! Someone saw him here..." He slid to the ground with a defeated stance, hiding his face in his hands.
The Doctor and Frank exchanged looks. They both walked over to the lanky figure to try and comfort him.
"Hey, Urie was it?" The Doctor asked, kneeling next to the figure. "What's going on?"
The boy looked up from his hands as the Doctor put his hand on his back. He had big, brown eyes full of tears. His dark hair was messy and unkept as he shook his head. "Brendon." He said, softly. "I just... I lost my guy, my friend."
"How?" Frank asked, causing Brendon to turn to him.
"We-we had an argument, but he told me where he was going. He always does! He usually comes home, too... But that was days ago, and people have been going missing..." He trailed off, getting softer and softer with each word.
The Doctor frowned. "Don't worry, Brendon. I'm the Doctor, and my friend here is Frank." He patted Brendon's back, "We can help."
Brendon shot him a hopeful look. "No one has offered anything close to help! No even friends... I don't even know you... Thank you..."
"Don't mention it." The Doctor smiled. He helped Brendon to his feet, dusting off the human's plaid shirt. "Tell us how we can help."
"I don't know." Brendon shook his head. "Ryan said he would come here. He always comes here. Then, he always comes home..."
"How bad was the last argument?" Frank asked.
Brendon shook his fingers through his hair. "Same as usual! Just a domestic thing..."
"Any leads on any of the other missing persons?" The Doctor asked, examining the texture of Brendon's shirt.
"I-I don't know... Cops don't care. I just know that it's been like three days..." Brendon let out a soft cry, gripping his hair and tugging, slightly.
The Doctor dropped Brendon's shirt and reached into his jacket pocket. He pulled out his sonic screwdriver with a grin. "Detective time."
Brendon looked at the device in the Doctor's hand with confusion. "Who are you, agent Mulder?"
The Doctor laughed. "Course not! Although, I feel like I relate to his character more, the new red hair makes me lean towards agent Skully-"
"Doctor." Frank interrupted. He could see this conversation quickly going nowhere.
The Doctor nodded. "Yes! Missing boyfriend, on it."
Brendon's eyes widened. "N-no we're not-" he started stammering, but the Doctor just shook his head.
"It's alright, Brendon. Guys can be hot too." He winked before walking down the alley, pointing his sonic at the walls of the alley surrounding them.
Brendon stood in a silent awe before turning to Frank. He looked Frank up and down. "So... Ah, you and him?"
"Just traveling." Frank shrugged. "And whatever this is..." He quietly mumbled under his breath.
"How are we supposed to find Ryan?" Brendon asked as the Doctor walked back down the alley towards them, examining the sonic device. "Nobody knows anything."
"I may know something about where your missing friend may be!" The Doctor exclaimed.
Brendon and Frank both turned to him with wide eyes. "How?" They both asked in unison.
The Doctor just grinned. "Because, I'm clever. Now, allon-no, I've used that one... Just come on! Follow me." He held his sonic out and began to walk away from the two humans, looking down at the device. Frank and Brendon exchanged looks.
"Do we follow?" Brendon asked.
"I trust him enough to." Frank shrugged. He stepped forward, ushering Brendon along as they followed the Doctor into the street.
They walked down the street, passing by several businesses until they stopped outside of a bar. Brendon's eyes grew teary as he looked up at the neon sign.
"Ryan's go to..." He said, softly. "They said he left though... He should of been home..."
"He was here with some kind of anomaly..." The Doctor commented with a tilt of his head at his sonic, "Or the anomaly was here in coincidence, but I've learned that those aren't very reliable..."
"Like my bathtub?" Frank asked with a grin as the Doctor began walking again.
"Hey! You said water under the bridge!" The Doctor argued back, a slight grin growing on his face after saying it.
Brendon and Frank continued to follow the Doctor until they reached a small building. It was a small, single story that looked abandoned. Brendon had a worried expression as the Doctor put his sonic at his side.
"Is he there? Oh god, is he dead?" Brendon asked fearfully.
"I don't know..." The Doctor replied, "and I don't like not knowing..." He pushed on the door of the building, sending it squeaking open. "Wait here..." He said, lowly, before disappearing inside.
Brendon crossed his arms over his chest, biting his lip. He looked over at Frank, with a mixture of nerves and curiosity. "Who is he again?"
Frank shrugged, looking back at Brendon. "The Doctor."
"Just Doctor? He doesn't go by anything else?"
"I... I don't know." Frank answered, honestly. Frank hadn't pressed the issue when he first asked about it. It didn't seem that important at the time.
"You travel with someone who's name you don't even know?" Brendon asked, skeptically. Frank just shrugged in response once again. The two grew silent as they waited for the doctor to emerge from the house. It was about five minutes before the time lord came out with a triumphant laugh.
"I found something." He said, holding up a strange goo inside a small bag. It was a pinkish, see through color.
"Ew." Brendon and Frank both said in unison, scrunching their noses. The Doctor just rolled his eyes at the two of them.
"It's not that bad." He sighed, opening his coat pocket and dropping the small bag inside.
"But, what about Ryan?" Brendon asked, "Where is he?"
"He's not dead in there, if that's any consolation." The Doctor said, "There's still a chance he's alive."
"But where!?" Brendon exclaimed, tugging at his hair again. "That helps but it doesn't... I just need... I need a drink..." He sighed, shaking his head as he looked at the ground.
"Good! You go to that bar, have a drink or two, and I can analyze the slime so we can get closer to finding Ryan." The Doctor insisted, putting his arms around Brendon's shoulders. "Just leave it to us for a bit."
Brendon looked skeptical, but nodded, looking at the ground. Frank and the Doctor followed along as he trudged to the bar, since the tardis was in the same direction. Brendon shut his eyes tightly as he walked into Ryan's choice bar. The two strange men he met walked on, talking lowly.
Brendon listened to the sounds of the bar for a moment before opening his eyes. It was crowded with drunks and those on the way there. Brendon weaved past them to the bar, calling for shots. He quickly shot them back, feeling on the urge of tears.
Maybe he would come here tonight. Maybe he would come home...
Brendon shook his head, resting his forehead against the bar's counter. He turned his head to the side, looking down the bar. He looked at the faces ordering drinks when he felt his heart stop.
"Ryan?" He called out in disbelief to the brown haired boy grinning at him from down the bar.
