The Past Reacts With The Future In Funny Ways

"So, like this?" Frank asked as the Doctor guided his hand to a button attached to a spring on the control panel.

The Doctor was showing Frank loosely how to to steer the tardis. He stood behind Frank, pressing himself against the human as he spoke the instructions in his ear and guided Frank's hands where they needed to go.

"Hit it." The Doctor nodded, pulling his hand back just slightly.

Frank nodded, sticking his tongue out and slamming his hand into the button. Thanks to the spring, his hand quickly shot back, almost hitting him in the face. The Doctor's hand blocked that from happening, however, making Frank laugh in relief.

The Doctor stepped back as the tardis began to make its usual noise. Frank looked up with accomplishment, watching different devices move and multiple lights change color.

"So, where did I set us to go?" Frank asked, turning to the Doctor with a grin.

"That's the fun of it." The Doctor winked.

Frank rolled his eyes, "You have no idea, do you?"

"I never said that."

"You implied it."

"Oh, stop it, Frankie." The Doctor gave him a look of irritation before it quickly fell into a grin.

Frank laughed, turning back to the control panel. He marveled at the moving parts of the ship and the multiple flashing colors. It really was astonishing... Frank could understand the Doctor's love for it. He was about to spin back to face the Doctor, when the ship lurched.

Both Frank and the Doctor were sent flying forward into the railing around the main panel. Frank was barely able to maintain his footing and grab the railing as he crashed into it. The Doctor, however, wasn't so lucky. He stumbled and crashed into the pole, hitting his head with a loud 'clanging' sound.

"Doctor!" Frank cried out. He reached out and grabbed the Doctor's arm before he could fall off the platform. "Doctor!"

Frank held tightly to both the railing and the Doctor. He felt panicked as the tardis continued to whirl with motion through space. Frank felt he had broken it or something. Maybe he had done something wrong? Maybe he had hit a button when he was really just supposed to flick it?

All these thoughts flew through Frank's head before the tardis halted, leveling out with a thud and causing Frank to loose his grip on the bar. He cried out as he fell back with a thud. He quickly scrambled up and crawled over to the Doctor.

"Doctor, hey!" Frank looked frantically over the Doctor's unconscious face, reaching out to tap his cheek. "Oh dear lord, Doctor! Wake up!"

Frank sat up, biting his lip. The Doctor was still breathing, at least. The time lord's chest was rising and falling at an even rate, calming Frank's nerves somewhat.

"I've just gotta get help..." Frank muttered to himself as he moved the Doctor's hair back, "Maybe we landed somewhere with help..." Frank jumped to his feet before pausing for an instance. "Don't move... Please be alright."

With that, Frank hurried down the stairs to the tardis doors. He pulled them open, but jumped back with a yell at what was right outside the door.

Two boys jumped back at Frank's exclamation. Both were about the same height; one had a mohawk pink hair on top of his head with brown sides, while the other boy had a mixture of pinks and purples in his wild hair. Both boys seemed normal enough, besides their hair, minus one thing.

The boy with the mohawk had a small, pink cat like creature on his shoulders. Cat like, but it was weird. It's tail went from skinny to fat, with smaller strands with yellow balls attached to it at the end. It's ears were also much larger than any cat Frank had seen before.

The boy with galaxy colored hair had a strange creature with him as well. It was something almost dog like, that stood on two feet and wore a skull on its head. It was clutching the pant leg of the boy and shaking as it tried to hide.

They were such strange creatures to Frank, yet somehow familiar...

"There's people in there!?" The boy with galaxy hair, exclaimed in some kind of foreign accent.

Frank looked at he and the other boy in a slight confusion. "Yea... There's people out here?"

The pink haired boy nodded. "Yea. I'm Josh, and this is Michael." He introduced himself and his friend.

"Frank." Frank nodded. The feeling from the unexpected encounter was wearing off, being replaced by worry for his Doctor. "Help! I-I need help!"

"What's wrong?" Josh asked.

"My-my Doctor, he got knocked out on some railing." Frank tried to explain, stepping to the side so that the two boys could see inside the tardis.

"Bloody hell, there's railing in there!?" Michael exclaimed again, "It isn't even that big out here!"

"Perspectives..." Frank mumbled, looking back up at the main panel where the Doctor was laying.

Josh was taking it all in before he nudged Michael. "Doesn't your Ampharos know shock?" He whispered.

Michael nodded, "She's had that since she was a Mareep.

Josh rolled his eyes. "I'm implying you use it to help wake up his friend, dumbass." Josh smacked Michael's arm with the back of his hand, making the other boy let out a soft 'oh'.

"What the hell are you guys talking about?" Frank questioned, making sense of very little of their conversation.

Josh looked at Frank as if he was from another planet. "Our pokémon. We can use them to help."

"Pokémon?" Frank questioned as he let the two inside the ship, "Like... Like the old Nintendo games?"

"Exactly." Michael grinned as he grabbed something red and white from his side. It was a ball with white on top, red on the bottom, and a black band around it that connected to a white button. "Where the hell hell have you been?"

"It isn't out to the public, Michael!"

"If he's here, he has to know something, Josh!"

"Guys!" Frank interjected as the two boys turned to face each other, looking ready to fight. "My Doctor, please?"

Both boys nodded, looking down. "Sorry." Josh muttered as Michael leaned down to pick up the creature that had been clutching his pant leg.

Frank motioned for them to follow him up the steps. Once they made it up, Frank hurried to the Doctor's side. "This is him." He said, worriedly, looking down at the still unconscious time lord.

Michael nodded, holding the small creature in his arms out to Josh. "Take Cubone for a minute." He said as he tightened the grip on the ball in his hand. Once Josh was holding the Cubone, Michael held out the ball and hit the button with his thumb. "C'mon out, Ampharos!"

Frank watched in amazement as a blue beam of light shot out of the opening ball. It hit the ground before illuminating in the shape of a giraffe like creature. When the blue light faded, a tall yellow and black creature stood before them. There was a red circle on its head that seemed to be glowing, but it was fading with the blue light. It looked around, curiously, before walking over to Michael and nuzzling its head against him.

Michael laughed, hugging around its long neck and scratching the back of its head. "Hiya. You feeling good?"

"What is that?" Frank awed, faintly remembering something like that from his childhood of playing the games. However, that had been years ago.

"Ampharos." Michael laughed again as the creature continued to nuzzle against him, causing his hair to stand on end worse than it already was. "She's an electric type. She's gonna help us wake him up." He stepped back from the creature, who tilted her head at him curiously. "Can you just give him a tiny shock? Like when you want to wake me up sometimes." Michael asked with a smile.

The Ampharos was still for a moment before nodding. "Pharos!" She said, seeming to build up a static charge from nowhere.

Frank's eyes grew wide, but Michael reassured him. "It's just a small jolt! It won't hurt him."

Frank nodded as the creature reached down and connected her arm to the Doctor's hand. Almost immediately, the time lord bolted up, his hair standing slightly on end.

"Oh, wowza! That was a doozy, wasn't it?" He shook his head, blinking rapidly. "Ooooh, that got my hearts going! Feel it, someone feel." The Doctor was grabbing at the air before he noticed the strangers onboard. "Oh! Well, hello."

"Are you alright?" Josh asked as the cat like creature peaked over the top of his head, letting out a soft 'skitty?'

"Feeling a bit wound up, but great!" The Doctor turned a bit to see Frank sitting on his knees behind him. "Frankie! Did I miss anything? You look like you need the shock blanket, although I'm the one that got shocked, so I call dibs."

"Is he always like this?" Josh asked as the Cubone he was holding waved its arms desperate to get back to Michael.

The Doctor stood up, shaking his head and patting his hair down as Frank nodded. "He's pretty odd, but that's how you know it's him." Frank grinned, pushing himself to his feet.

"My head hurts a bit..." The Doctor muttered, rubbing his palm against his forehead. "Rough landing?"

"You could say that..." Frank said, lowly, as he looked down.

"We saw this blue thing fall from the sky." Michael said as his Cubone jumped from Josh's arms and back into his. "That's why we were at the door!"

Josh nodded, looking around the room again. "Are you guys aliens or something?" He asked. He grinned between the Doctor and Frank, "Cuz that would be pretty neat."

The Doctor only appeared to be half listening, however, because he was observing Michael's Ampharos. He walked around it, as if he was unsure what to make of it.

"This is astonishing!" He finally said, standing in front of the creature (who was just scratching her neck while looking over at Michael with confusion as to who this strange man was). "What species is this?.."

"Pokémon, Doctor." Frank answered, not fully believing it himself. Pokémon were just games, how could they be real?

"It's a project our dads have been working on for twenty years!" Michael said, looking proud. "Bring Pokémon to life! The first ten years was trial and error, but they did it!"

"Professor Dun and Professor Clifford were the men to first genetically engineer Pokémon." Josh added, looking equally as proud. "We're on an island dedicated to our dad's research. Now that you're up, care to look?"

"Game characters?" The Doctor asked, "Twenty years, island? We'd love to see it!" He nodded at the two boys with a grin. The boys nodded, motioning for Frank and the Doctor to follow. Frank slid next to the Doctor and nudged him as they walked over to the downward steps.

"Isn't this just a bit stranger than normal?" Frank asked as Michael held out the ball again, sucking the Ampharos back inside with a similar blue light as when it was first released.

The Doctor just laughed. "Oh, Frankie, stranger things have happened. Always will too. Don't think the strangeness ever stops." With that, he grabbed hold of Frank's hand and pulled him down the stairs.

Josh and Michael were already outside, waiting for the two. The both looked excited to show them their surroundings.

"Welcome, to Poképark!" Josh exclaimed, gesturing his arm out to the giant sea of fields ond forests of greenery. It seemed like any other place, except for the creatures being held by Josh and Michael.

The Doctor shut the door of the tardis and looked around. "So your fathers are scientists that built this place?"

Michael shook his head. "Not the place, just the Pokémon." He held out his Cubone, who uneasily avoided the Doctor's gaze. "Dad bought the place with most of his savings..." He looked down, pulling his Cubone back and petting it. "Before mum died..."

"My dad helped with the research and my mom helped with raising Michael." Josh stepped in, "Our dads were nerds for this stuff, and the creators of the games actually funded their research." The cat creature jumped up on top of his head, prompting him to reach up and hold its sides protectively.

"That's neato!" The Doctor exclaimed, looking at the creature on top of Josh's head curiously. "Are you the only ones here?"

Josh shook his head as the creature on top of his head flipped onto its back and pawed at the air with its short legs. "Oh no, there's tons of other scientists and researchers and other guys. They live all over."

Frank bit his lip as the Doctor pointed at Josh's head. "How on earth did you manage that? I mean, it's very neat, neato even, but to create life? Even a new species?"

"You'd have to ask our dads." Josh said, bringing the creature down from his head to hold in his arms. He looked down and smiled at it, "Feel like a trip to the lab, Skitty?"

"Skit-Skitty!" It exclaimed, continuing to paw at the air. Josh laughed, scratching its tummy. It purred loudly before letting out another, "Skitty!"

"I'm having both amazing and traumatizing flashbacks." Frank said with a laugh.

Josh gave Frank a confused look, but shrugged. He nodded in a direction behind him. "The main research lab is this way, just a bit past the treeline."

Michael looked up at Josh. "Dad said we weren't supposed to-"

"We have good reason!" Josh argued, cutting Michael off. "C'mon, dude, what could it hurt?"

Michael looked down again, hugging his Cubone. It looked up at him before hugging him tightly back. Josh just looked at the Doctor and Frank.

"We'll lead the way." Josh said, turning slightly and beginning to side step. "Just one question though..."

The Doctor raised his eyebrow at Josh, who had a sheepish grin on his face. "Yes?"

"Are you an alien?" Josh asked almost silently.

Frank and the Doctor exchanged looks before they both began to giggle. "Oh, you have no idea." The Doctor grinned, making Josh's eyes grow wide.

---

"Cu-cubone!"

"Skitty! Skit!"

The two Pokémon seemed to be chattering between each other, or the humans carrying them, as the group traveled along the treeline. Michael walked in the back of the group, still holding his Cubone close, while Josh walked backwards as he chatted happily with the Doctor and Frank.

"So, like, space really is limitless like they say?" Josh asked with wonder in his eyes.

"It's humongous!" The Doctor exclaimed, I'm hundreds of years old, and even I still haven't explored it all."

Josh let out a soft, "woah..." Of amazement as he took everything the Doctor had said in. He really loved the concept of space and aliens. He wanted to talk about that more than the actual living video game characters all around him.

"Can I ask a question?" Frank inquired, earning a nod from Josh. "Can you only hold six? Like in the games?"

Josh nodded again. "Yea. I only have five in my party, counting my Skitty." He smiled at the creature in his arms before nodding back to Michael, "He's filled all six."

"That's so freaking cool..." Frank giggled as he spoke, feeling as if his childhood had been reborn in this adventure. How could this possibly be real!?

If they could genetically engineer dinosaurs, why not Pokémon?

"So, why a Skitty, Josh?" The Doctor asked as the creature spun in Josh's arms and climbed up his shirt to perch on his shoulder. Josh laughed, petting the Skitty and opening his mouth to reply when a yelling could be heard, sending several small brown birds flying into the air.

"HELP!"

The voice yelled from inside the treeline, sounding extremely distressed and afraid. Josh stopped in his tracks, snapping his head in that direction as the rest of the group stopped as well.

A loud roar echoed through the trees. With that, Josh went sprinting into the trees. Michael's eyes widened as the Doctor and Frank froze for a second.

"That's not supposed to be out of that lab..." Michael whispered as his Cubone pulled a leg bone out of nowhere.

"Come on!" The Doctor exclaimed, grabbing Frank's hand and running towards the treeline. Michael followed after the two as they tried to follow where Josh had ran. It didn't take long before they could see his pink hair through the greenery around them.

The group stumbled into a clearing, where they were met by not only Josh, but a thin boy with dark hair on the ground, and a large lion type creature growling menacingly at the two.

The boy on the ground looked terrified. Several, what looked like, letters with a single eye swirled around him and he held a large yellow duck in his arms. Josh was standing protectively in front of him, holding out a pokéball.

"PIPLUP! HELP US OUT!" He yelled as a small, blue penguin appeared from the blue light that shined out from the ball. The Piplup looked at the large creature in front of it and squealed, looking frightened. "It's okay, buddy." Josh assured, staring down the larger creature. "Just give it your best hydro pump!"

The small penguin squeaked, but looked determined after Josh's request. It solidified it's footing before shooting a beam of water from its small beak.

"There's no way this is real." Frank whispered with wide eyes as the water collided with the larger creature, making it cry out and shrink back. "I have to be having some kind of fever dream..."

"Hit it again, Piplup!" Josh cried out as the larger creature roared again, beginning to glow and smoke. As he commanded the Piplup, his Skitty was running over to the dark haired boy on the ground. It nuzzled against him before looking at him questioningly. He was too busy holding the duck creature close and hiding his face to notice.

The Doctor looked at a loss for words or actions as Josh battled the huge creature. Michael even had his Cubone throw the mystery bone to help weaken it. After an intense few minutes, the larger creature fell to it's side. The air around them relaxed and Josh sighed in relief.

"Piplup, I owe you extra candies when we get home..." Josh said as he held out his pokéball. The small penguin seemed to smile as he exclaimed his name before vanishing into the blue light. As soon as it was in the ball, Josh quickly spun on his heels. He hurried over to the dark haired boy, crouching down in front of him. "Hey, Kid, you alright?"

The boy peaked his head up from the chest of the unconscious creature he was holding in his arms. He looked nervous and afraid as he looked Josh over.

Josh just gave him a warm smile. "It's okay. My name's Josh. You already met my Skitty." He stroked the Pokémon's back as it pressed herself against him.

The other boy still seemed unsure. He looked up as the strange letters came down close to him, buzzing with whatever their name was. The boy nodded before turning back to Josh.

"My name's Tyler." He whispered.

"Hi Tyler." Josh continued to smile, "What are you doing out here?"

Tyler bit his lip as the letters began to buzz again. "You're Professor Dun's son, right?" He asked, softly.

Josh's smile fell. "Yea, why?"

Tyler shook his head. "Something bad happened..."

I forgot to add this up top, but here's another super long chapter!! Aahh

Also, a special thank you to petewentzisdead for helping me out with some of the details!! I really appreciate it & just thank you again! ((Although it'll probably show up more in the next chapter ya know I'm rambling okay))

Just for funsies, who is your favorite companion on Doctor who? I really have a hard time deciding, because I love most of them.

One last thing, please don't hate me for some of the characters that got introduced here? I know one is considered an unpopular option for the main audience of this fic, but just trust me, please?
