The Over Glorified Squidward
"So, what do you think it is?" Frank asked, shaking his fingers through his hair as he walked to the main deck of the tardis. The Doctor had been working all night at trying to figure out what the pinkish slime was.
"I am not one hundred percent..." He replied, tiredly. "It's not living, but it once was. Which narrows it down, but not by much when you have a whole universe to look through..."
Frank leaned against the railing around the platform the controls rested on. "So, aliens are literally everywhere?"
"All throughout space and time..." The Doctor replied, absently, reaching up and twisting some of his red strands of hair between his fingers. "You wouldn't believe the historical events that wouldn't have happened without aliens... Like the moon landing."
"Aliens assisted the moon landing?" Frank asked with an unconvinced laugh.
"Oh, Frankie, more than you realize..." The Doctor grinned, "That was a fun time..."
Frank shook his head. "This is so much to take in sober." He sighed.
"Go have a drink!" The Doctor shrugged, waving him away. "I'm not really getting too far here, but I'll get you if I do. Maybe you'll run into Brendon or his friend..."
"Or the thing that's taking everyone." Frank muttered, looking over at the tardis' door.
"You're a feisty one, you'll be fine." The Doctor winked at him with a grin on his face.
Frank fought back a blush, turning completely to the door now. "I'll be at Ryan's go to." Frank said, quoting Brendon from the day before.
"I'll come the moment I find out anything!" The Doctor called out, pressing some buttons before sliding something along a small screen at the control panel. Frank nodded, pulling open the door and slipping out.
---
Frank swirled his drink around the small cup in his hand. The time may have changed, but at least the beer hadn't changed. It still did the job of getting him drunk, which is what he needed right now.
"Hey, Frank!"
Frank turned as Brendon slid onto the barstool next to him. He had a flirtatious grin on his face as he looked the tattooed boy over.
"Can I buy you a one of those?" He asked, pointing at the cup in Frank's hand.
"I'm good, Brendon."
"Nah, I insist!" Brendon declared, waving the bartender over. "Let me be a good pal."
Frank looked at Brendon questioningly. "Weren't you out looking for your friend?" He asked as Brendon got two cups from the bartender. He spun in the direction opposite to Frank before quickly facing him again, holding out a cup.
"He came home!" Brendon announced, cheerfully. "I should of just waited, but after a few days you start to panic." He laughed, bringing his glass to his lips.
Frank reached out for the glass Brendon held out to him. "Guess we can cheers to that." Frank shrugged, "The Doctor will be happy to hear."
Brendon just grinned, holding out his cup to clink against Frank's. They both brought it to their lips quickly after, shooting it down their throats. Frank coughed as it went down. It burned slightly more than the alcohol of his time.
"So," Brendon tapped the bar, looking at Frank from the corner of his eye. "Where is the Doctor?"
"Ship." Frank replied simply with a shrug, "He's trying to analyze something..."
Brendon nodded, looking down at the bar. "Any luck with that?"
"Nope." Frank responded with an added pop to the P. The grin on Brendon's face seemed to grow with that.
"Hope he can figure it out!" Brendon said, spinning his barstool to face Frank. "But, maybe you could come over so Ryan can thank you for the help in finding him?"
Frank took another swig of his drink before shrugging. "Sure. It'd be nice to meet him in person..." He attempted to rise from the barstool, but tripped. He was on his way to the ground when a slimey, brown rope like thing shot out and caught him. He blinked and saw Brendon holding him up.
"You alright, man?" Brendon asked.
Frank blinked a few more times at Brendon. He hadn't even seen or heard the other man move. How'd he get to Frank's level so fast?..
"Maybe I should help you." Brendon suggested, helping Frank to his feet. "C'mon, my place isn't too far..."
"Bu... But how'd you-"
"Dude, you're wasted!" Brendon laughed, cutting him off. "You're seeing things, man. I'll let you crash on my couch overnight."
Frank's legs fought to work alongside Brendon's as the walked to the bar's exit. Something was just weird about what just happened... But Frank was too drunk to pinpoint it...
---
The Doctor bit his lip as he looked over the second set of results he had printed up from the sample they found in the small, abandoned building. It just couldn't be right...
"There is no way that tentacles should have anything to do with this situation." The Doctor exclaimed, bringing the result paper closer to his face. "Why is the Octopoda family even in these results!?"
The Doctor looked back up at the small data screen above his head. It showed a strange DNA strand. Part was human, but part was not... The other part appeared to be some kind of alien.
"Oh good lord, the humans really did base their tentacle monsters after real tentacle monsters, didn't they?" He muttered as he looked over the small, gallifreyan text that scrolled over the screen. "Oh, this is bad... This is tremendously bad..."
This wasn't human DNA anymore anymore, it was mutated alien DNA. It bonded with the human DNA, most likely to attempt to recreate the human it...
"FRANK!" The Doctor cried out, realizing that the human wasn't onboard the tardis. He was out in this thing's hunting ground. "FRANK!"
The Doctor spun on his heels before rushing down from the tardis' control panel. He hoped he wasn't too late. If this thing could morph into what it eats, they were in for some serious trouble.
He ran to where the bar was, huffing as he pushed his way through the door. He panted the whole way to the counter, trying to regain his breath.
"Short... Short, dark haired fella." He said, patting the old bar to get the attention of the man behind it. "Got skin ink everywhere, attractive, hair to about here." He motioned with his hands to the side of his head.
The man behind the counter gave him a strange look, but nodded. "Yea, just left a bit ago with another fella. That guy who's been looking for the other guy, what's his name."
"Brendon." The Doctor said with a breath of air. Oh, he hoped Brendon was just being a good friend and not a tentacle welding creature about to kill Frank for his body. "Where'd they go?"
The man behind the counter shrugged. "Said something about letting him crash on his couch."
"Gotchya." The Doctor nodded, tapping the bartop once again. "Thank yoooou!" He pushed himself away from the bar and in the direction of the exit. He had a very bad feeling that this wasn't going to be a good time...
---
"Wh-where'ssss Ryan?" Frank asked, stumpling against Brendon's helpful hold. They had just arrived at Brendon and Ryan's apartment. All the lights were off and the silence inside was deafening.
"Probably in bed." Brendon replied, quickly. He pulled Frank over to the couch and sat him down. "Just wait here." He said with an small smirk.
Frank tried to sit up straight, but found himself sliding over to the side. He had never been drunk so quick in his own time. Maybe he should lay off the shots and old beer.
His vision was distorted and fuzzy as he tried to look around the dark room. Where was he again?.. Brendon and Ryan's, yea... He knew that...
"He's sound asleep." Brendon said, casually, walking into the room in just his black underwear.
Frank pushed himself up in confusion. "Clothes?" Was all he could manage to slur past his lips as Brendon came closer.
Brendon laughed, looking Frank over with a hunger in his eyes. "Clothes just get in the way." He grinned, "They usually offput the flavor, as well."
"Asssswa?" Frank squinted at Brendon. One of his arms was really smooth and long... Where did his fingers go!?
"Brendon was so thin, I'm still hungry." He pouted, "I should of known he wouldn't fill me, but using Ryan's form to lure him was just so easy!" He laughed darkly as, before Frank's eyes, his other arm seemed to glitch into a tentacle. "I couldn't resist."
"Brendon?" Frank slurred, trying to scoot down the couch and away from him. He ended up falling to his side and off the couch.
Brendon, or rather, the thing that looked like him, just laughed again. "He's dead, Frank! Did I slip a little too much in your drink? I'm sorry, I'm just a sucker for flavor..." As he said it, he popped some of the suction cups on his brown tentacle arms.
Frank scooted back, trying hard to comprehend through his drunken fuzziness. Brendon couldn't be dead, he had just seen him!.. Right? Or, was that already the over glorified squidward?..
"Where are you going?" Brendon asked with a maniacal laugh and a grin to match, "Stay for dinner! It's to die for."
Frank cried out as he watched Brendon transform. His form seemed to glitch away, leaving a giant, octopus like creature. It floated above the ground, with it's eight tentacles waving wildly through the air. It had a single eye that it stared at Frank with, just above a sharp beak.
"I was the king of that hologram, wasn't I?" The thing somehow spoke, opening it's beak with a screech.
Frank screamed, unsure what to do or where to go. He couldn't even stand, let alone run from this thing. What was he going to do. "Do-o-octor!" He cried out as the thing grew closer.
"He'll see you soon enough!" The thing taunted, "It'll just be me under the skin!"
"You may want to rethink that claim." A familiar voice drifted through the air. The creature turned to face it as Frank tried to register it in his drunken brain. It sounded like the bathroom guy... The guy that broke his bathtub, the Doctor.
The creature let out another shriek, making Frank jump from where he was on the ground.
"I really liked Brendon." The Doctor responded, still out of Frank's blurred eyesight. "He was a good man. You had no right to take that away from him, or his partner, or anyone you've consumed."
"Who are you to tell me what rights I have!" The creature argued.
There was a second of silence before there was a reply. "I'm the Doctor, and I refuse to let you steal another form."
Frank's eyes grew wide as the creature shrunk back with an ear piercing screech. As backed into a wall, the Doctor stepped into sight. He was holding his sonic screwdriver out in front of him as it glowed brightly green. He grinned at Frank, offering a hand to him.
"There you are, Frankie. You scared me for a bit back there." The Doctor said, casually, as he pulled the drunken man to his feet. "Just lean on me, this will only take a moment."
"STOP THE SCREECHES!" The creature shrieked, "IT BURNS!"
"I don't think so." The Doctor replied, hitting a button on the small device. "How can I be sure you won't keep up your nasty tricks?"
The creature shrieked louder, making Frank clumsily bring his hands to cover his ears. The Doctor kept his sonic steady, pressing yet another button.
"I can't be sure. Your species is brilliantly clever, but I'm clever too. Octopi are not the best with noise. Usually, they're deaf, but you've evolved past that, haven't you?" His sonic's light grew brighter, making the creature shriek louder still. "Maybe we should travel back in evolutionary time for you."
"HAVE MERCY!" It screeched, shrinking into a ball of tentacles. "PLEASE!"
"I'll have more mercy than you." The Doctor said, making the light of his sonic shrink back. The tentacled creature dropped to the floor, whimpering. The Doctor stepped back, causing Frank to stumble back onto the couch. The Doctor nodded in approval before turning back to the creature.
"How many of you are on this planet? You realize that this is a level five planet?" The Doctor questioned. He reached into his suit jacket pocket and pulled out a small, green crystal. "I don't think what you're doing here is much appreciated."
"I'm just surviving!" The creature cried out. Its tentacles continued to wave wildly as he spoke.
"You'll survive just fine in a cell." The Doctor said before tossing the green crystal at the creature. It cried out one last time before vanishing in a sudden flash of green light.
"Wherrr he go?" Frank mumbled from the couch, blinking in confusion with wide eyes.
The Doctor turned to him with a smile. "That was a transport crystal. Sending it to a cell in a prison run under the shadow proclamation." He laughed, softly at Frank's confused face. "I'll tell you about it when you're sober. Alright?"
He walked over to Frank and pulled him up to his uncoordinated feet. Frank leaned against the Doctor thankfully, feeling his blinks growing longer. He barely made it back to the tardis and back to his room before passing out.
