Spin-Off Special #5

(Important announcement at the end!)

"The happiest that I've felt was that moment I discovered you loved me too."

Maya Granger

It has been two months.

Two months since I told Ryder I love him. Two months since we officially started dating. Two months and I still was trying to get accustomed to having a boyfriend. I didn't realize there was so much to do.

"Keys, bag, phone...okay, I think that's all," I looked around my room, nodded, and headed out. "I'm going over to Ryder's!" I hollered as I descended the stairs.

"Have fun!" Mom hollered back.

"Use protection!" Dad joined in, making me stop in my tracks just before I opened front door.

I turned around. "You're supposed to say, Don't do anything I wouldn't do!"

"That saying is too mainstream!"

Not knowing how to reply, I turned back to the door and exited the house. I jogged over to my car, and new baby, a white, 2014 Honda Accord Coupe. An early Chritmas gift from my parents. Sliding into the driver's seat, I quickly clipped my seat belt on, started the engine and was on the familiar road headed to the O'Connel residence in record time.

Ryder wasn't able to attend school, texting me about a fever. I gave him tips on how to get over it quickly, but he insisted that as his girlfriend it was my duty to see to his health. Hearing him call me his girlfriend still manages to make me a blushing mess. Just to humor him, I agreed to nurse him for the afternoon. Though I hadn't the slightest clue how to care for a sick person.

I pulled into the O'Connel's roundabout driveway, parking right behind a gray pick-up that I knew didn't belong to anyone in the O'Connel household.

Ryder's house still made stare in awe despite how many times I've seen it. I found out a few weeks after officially dating Ryder, when our families got together for dinner, just what Mr. and Mrs. O'Connel did for a living. Turns out, Hunter was a co-owner of a construction company, while Visca was the city's most sought after attorney. It explained the fancy, two-storey brick house that had an indoor heated pool, a gym in the basement, a fountain in the front yard, and at least ten guest bedrooms with adjoining bathrooms.

It was safe to say that the O'Connels were rich.

But despite having the money, they were a normal, down to earth family which made me question where Ryder got his dramatics from. Because I think everyone would agree with me that Ryder was not normal. Eccentric was the word I would use to describe my boyfriend. Nothing more. Okay, maybe unfairly hot, but I wouldn't tell him that as I didn't need his head getting any bigger than it already was.

Grabbing my purse from the passenger seat, I quickly got out of my car and jogged my way up the front porch steps. I pressed the doorbell and stood back when I heard Angel holler, "Be right there!"

"Maya!" She exclaimed upon opening the door, taking a cherry-colored sucker out of her mouth. She immediately opened her arms for a hug which I readily gave with a smile. "What are you doing here?"

"Ryder called." I replied as she lead me inside.

She rolled her eyes with an endearing smile. "Of course. Only my brother would make such a big deal out of a mild fever. He's acting like he's about to die with all the people he called over."

I raised a brow in surprise. "Really?"

"Yeah." She pointed with her sucker to the grand staircase that lead up to the second floor. "Daniel and the gang's here as well."

Now that I was not expecting.

"Oh. Well, no words."

Angel chuckled. "I feel you, sister. Anyways, I gotta get back to this paper my professor decided to toture us with. I'll be in the living room if it gets too rowdy for you."

"Thanks, Angie," I replied, using the nickname she had told me to call her. She sent me a wink before walking off to the living room. I wasted no time in starting up the stairs, eager and curious to find out what the heck was going on.

As I neared Ryder's room, the sound of obnoxious laughter mixed with shouting reached my ears. I was almost hesitant to open the door, but I did so anyway, and it was the best decision I have ever made. Everyone froze, their heads all turned in my direction, before I fell to my knees laughing until I had to clutch my stomach from pain. Ryder, who was sitting on the bed with his back against the headboard, looked like he was clown trying to be a drag queen with red lipstick smeared unevenly on his lips and reached down to his chin, his eye lids were poorly dusted with a ridiculous shade of blue and hot pink, his eyebrows the size of John Watson's mustache, while his whole face was darkly contoured and his cheeks sported a glitery blush that was applied too thickly.

Daniel, who was sitting in front of him holding a contour brush, didn't look any better. In fact, almost all the boys in the room which included Byron — or Justin as I recently found out, Byron turning out to be his last name, had make-up on their faces.

"Wha-What...what is...what is..." unable to form a complete sentence, I gave up and continued laughing.

"Maya!" Daniel exclaimed in glee, who was the first one to  snap out of it. "Want to join? We're playing poker!"

I shook my head furiously as I attempted to get up from the floor. I got to my feet, trying to muffle my laughter as I took another look at the group of six teenage boys. Only Oscar's face wasn't caked with make-up. "What...what in the world...happened...here?" I managed to ask in between giggles as I leaned against the door frame for support.

"Loser gets a make-over," Justin grumbled under his breath as he crossed his arms at his chest.

"Oscar's the only one who hasn't lost!" Lloyd declared, Rhodes nodding his head in agreement from where he sat on the floor, while Oscar simply shrugged.

"Y'all just make winning so easy," he said in his usual monotoned voice.

"Maya!" Ryder suddenly exclaimed, catching everyone's attention. "You're here already!"

"What's with that late reaction?" Daniel asked with a snicker that had Ryder glaring at him. Daniel raised his hands in mock surrender. "Fine, fine. We'll leave. Now that your girlfriend is here it seems you have no use for us."

Chuckling at his antics, I rolled my eyes as they all started making a move to leave. "You guys aren't going out like that, are you?"

"Hell no!" Lloyd replied. "Ryder isn't getting rid of us that quickly. We're gonna take our time getting the make-up off our faces, raid his kitchen, and then we'll leave."

The rest of the gang nodded in agreement, making Ryder groan, which was quickly followed with a series of coughs. Daniel patted his back with a sympathetic smile. "Okay, okay. Let's leave these two love-birds alone now. The kitchen is way more entertaining anyways."

I shook my head in amusement, though my face felt warm. I gave each boy a hug as they left the room, Daniel sneaking in a kiss to my cheek and sent me a wink when we heard Ryder growl which sent him into a coughing fit again. I closed the door softly after them and approached my boyfriend with a small smile as he slowly slid down from the headboard until he was laying on his back. Taking a seat next to him, I giggled at his face.

"Do I look like a runway model?" He asked hoarsely.

"Oh, yeah," I nodded, trying my best to look solemn and failing miserably making Ryder roll his eyes at me.

"Go ahead, laugh it all out," he said.

I brought a hand up to cover my mouth as I shook my head, my shoulders shaking with effort not to end up in another laughing spree. "Let me...go get...a towel," I managed to gasp out, before stumbling into his bathroom to retrieve the items I needed.

Much calmer once I reached the lavish bathroom, I managed to find a face towel in the sink cabinets, and ran it under the tap until it was soaking wet. I squeezed it until it was damp and went back into the room. Ryder had fallen asleep, and unable to resist, I pulled my phone out to snap an few pictures. Quietly, I made my way back to his side and brought the phone as close as I could to his face before tapping the shutter button.

A flash went off along with the sound effect, and I froze. Ryder's eyes snapped open, and the next thing I knew my back was hitting the soft mattress of his bed, and his fingers were at my sides, tickling the living daylights out of me. I laughed and squirmed underneath him, pleading for mercy. Ryder didn't relent until a few seconds later, keeping me caged between his body and the bed as he waited for me to calm down. There was a smile on his face as the last of the laughs left my system, and I was wiping away at the tears that had gathered in the corners of my eyes.

"I'm keeping the picture," I told him.

He shrugged. "I don't care. If it'll make you laugh every time you see it, you can keep it for as long as you want."

I grinned up at him. "Oh, you can bet that Mustang in your garage I'm keeping it. It's too hilarious."

He started leaning down when I brought the face towel up and used it to stop his advance, the cloth covering from his nose down. I was surprised I was able to keep a hold on it. His eyes narrowed down at me, making them look black, before I pushed at his shoulder with a smug smile. He let me until he was the one on his back, and I was the one hovering over him minus the straddling part. He stared at me — well, my lips more specifically, as I wiped the make-up off his face.

I was sure I looked as red as a ripe tomato as I still found myself unaccostumed to Ryder's need for contant physical touches. I have been single since birth, so no one could really blame me.

As I wiped the last of the cosmetics on his face, his arms had somehow managed to wrap around my waist, his thumb rubbing slow circles there.

"Done."

The word was a mere whisper as I found myself seemingly in a trance, and as soon as I said it, Ryder quickly sat up to capture my lips with his. I immediately responded, my heart pounding like a jackhammer against my ribs at the sensation the kiss assaulted on my body. I didn't realize Ryder had leaned back down to the bed until we had to pull away for breath. I was halfway sprawled over his chest, my arms resting on either side of his head while my fingers played with his hair. The smile on his face was dreamy, making me shake my head in disbelief despite the smile and blush on my face.

"I'm gonna get sick now," I groaned, burying my face in the crook of his neck. It was unusually warmer than normal because of his fever. I felt his chuckle before I heard it, his arms tightening around my waist.

"If that happes, it'll be my turn to take care of you," he replied.

"Something tells me it won't be with medicine," I murmured against his skin.

He chuckled again, but didn't say anything as he just sighed. Silence enveloped us, and soon his breathing evened out, telling me he had fallen asleep. I didn't move, feeling perfectly content and when my eyes started drooping, I didn't resist.

I didn't get sick, but Ryder still prescribed me with some cuddling, movies, and popcorn as soon as he got well.
