When Supergirl Found Out

Kara lay on her living room sofa after what felt like the longest day at Catco. Her arm lay over her eyes as she held her glasses in the other hanging over the edge of the sofa. She was pulled from her peace when her phone vibrated on the table next to her. With a heavy groan she shifted herself and grabbed her phone putting it to her ear, not bothering to check caller idea.

"Hello?" She huffed heavily.

" Well you sound like you had an amazing day." Her sister spoke down the phone.

" Oh a fantastic day." Kara muttered to her with sarcasm dripping off every tone.

"J'on wants us at the DEO now. It's sounds bad." She said before Kara sighed.

" Fine... See you there." She groaned as she hung up and rushed out her window changing at the same time.

Kara landed at the front entrance and walked through the automatic sliding doors. She was met with a somber mood all through the DEO. As she walked down the stairs, everyone either had their eyes to the ground or at her. She could instantly tell something was off.

"Soo, what have I done now?" She asked feeling totally in the dark.

"Kara," Alex began as she stepped forwards but J'on stopped her with a hand on her shoulder.

" Can we talk in private? " He asked her but she stood her ground, because deep down. Whatever he had to said was really bad. And that scared her completely.

" No, tell me. Now." She demanded.

" There is no easy way to say this." Alex said.

" Kara it's superman, Kal-el." J'on said.

" What? What is wrong with him?" She asked and everyone could hear the fear coating her every word. J'on looked to Winn how pressed a few buttons and the television showed a broadcast from Metropolis.

" We have a confirmation. Superman is dead." The news reported spoke. A eeire silence filled the room as supergirl did not know how to react.

" Kara? " Alex asked her but Kara never said a word and flew out the sliding doors. But she flew to fast for them to open and she smashed threw them.

" This is bad." J'on said as Alex sighed heavy.

Supergirl flew as fast as she could to where the battle had just finished. She was overcome by dread that her only relative left could be dead. The deviation that found her eyes was beyond belief. Her eyes scanned over metropolis trying to find any sign of her cousin. It was then her eyes landed on four figures and a monster next to them. She slowly drifted down to them fearing the scene she would find.

" Look." A woman in armour said as Kara floated towards them. Tears coated in her eyes as she stared down at her cousins lifeless body in the arms of a crying woman. She never saw the other two as her focus was completely on Kal-el. The crying woman stood up as Supergirl landed gentle on the ground.

A single tear fell down her left cheek as she knelt down and picked up her cousin into her arms. She stood up and looked to the three.

" Thank you." She whispered.

" For what? We tried but he still..." A man in a black suit spoke deeply.

" You helped him beat that thing. If you guys where not there, he would not have won." She said in a shaky voice. "So thank you." She said as she turned around and gentle took off into the air. She slowly picked up speed before she disappeared. She flew with her cousin held closely in her arms towards his mother's house out in Kansas.

A few days have past as Kara stood in the living room of Martha's house. She stood over her cousins open casket. Her cousin lay motionless before her in the bed he would lay in forever.

" Kal. Your such an idiot." She muttered through the cracking voice. " I promise I will keep going. I promise to keep supergirl strong."

"Kara. How are you?" Martha as she placed a gentle hand onto her shoulder.

" As much as I can be." She muttered to her. "Martha please tell me this is not happening." She asked her. "Please tell me I have not just lost my only family I had left." Kara broke down finally letting out her floods of tears she had been holding back. Martha just pulled her into a tight embrace.

" You still have family. Maybe not by blood. But by heart." She whispered in her ear causing Kara to hug her tightly but carefully as not to hurt her.

At the military funeral for Superman, many people turned up to show their gratitude towards his sacrifice. The President stood to say words about Superman. And just as he finished Supergirl appeared in front of the setting sun.

She landed gently in front of the President's podium and looked out over the crowd as they all pointed to her.

"Thank you. For your support too my late cousin. I'm sure he would be very happy to know that you all appropriate his sacrifice." She spoke out to the crowd. "But look back to just before all this happen. Look back at how you treated him. How you all made him out to be a criminal, yet he still laid down his life for you."

" I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't jump to conclusions and trust in everything you hear. Just because he couldnt help one person or that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, does not make him a bad person. It make him more human than anything else" Kara told them. "So please, look at it more deeply before you judge someone." She said before flying off again. She went to visit his grave out by Kansas and spent a while there. Before heading back to her home. She stood in her apartment just staring into space before everything began to sink in completely. She was the last of her kind, she no longer had any family left. She was all alone. And she broke. Kara fell to her knees and dropped her head into her hands.

"Kara?!" Mon-el called out as he burst open her door. He saw Kara in her supergirl uniform on her knees crying hard, unable to even breath properly. He rushed over and grabbed her, holding her closely to his chest. He just sat there and held her close, not saying a word. She gripped his tshirts tightly as if he would disappear as well.

" Please... Don't you ever leave me. I can't face being completely alone." She muttered through her sobs to him as he just held her tighter.

" Never." He whispered back to her and kissed the top of her head as she continued to cry.
