Chapter 26

It was Sara's ninth month of pregnancy, and she was sitting on the couch, relaxing and enjoying a moment of peace. Suddenly, she felt a rush of fluid and realized her water had broken. Panic surged through her, and she started calling out urgently.

"Shub! Shub, come quickly!" she yelled, her voice filled with a mix of fear and excitement.

Shubman was in the kitchen, preparing a snack. He heard Sara's frantic calls and immediately dropped everything, rushing to her side.

"What happened? Are you okay?" he asked, his eyes wide with concern.

Sara grabbed his hand, her grip tight. "My water just broke, Shub. The baby is coming!"

Shubman's eyes widened in shock, but he quickly composed himself. "Alright, let's get you to the hospital," he said, his voice calm despite the adrenaline pumping through his veins.

He gently helped Sara to her feet, supporting her as they made their way to the car. Sara's contractions began to intensify, and she winced in pain. "Breathe, Sara. Just keep breathing," Shubman encouraged, trying to soothe her.

The drive to the hospital felt like an eternity. Shubman kept glancing at Sara, worry etched on his face. "We're almost there, just hang on," he said, speeding up slightly.

When they finally arrived, Shubman rushed inside to get help. Nurses and doctors quickly surrounded Sara, placing her on a wheelchair and wheeling her into the maternity ward. Shubman stayed by her side, holding her hand and whispering words of comfort.

Hours passed in a blur of pain and anticipation. Shubman never left her side, offering support and love through every contraction. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, they heard the first cry of their baby.

"It's a girl," the doctor announced with a smile, handing the tiny, swaddled newborn to Sara. Tears of joy streamed down Sara's face as she held their daughter for the first time. Shubman leaned in, kissing both Sara and their newborn, his heart overflowing with love and pride.

"We did it, Sara," he whispered, his voice choked with emotion. "She's perfect."

Sara smiled through her tears, looking at Shubman and then at their daughter. "We did it together, Shub. Our little family."

Shubman's heart raced with a mix of joy and nervousness. As Sara and the baby were settled into their hospital room, Shubman took a moment to call his family.

"Sid bhai, it's Shubman. Sara's had the baby. It's a girl," he said, his voice trembling with excitement. "Can you and bhabhi come to the hospital? Mumma and Papa too. I want everyone to meet her."

Sidharth's voice crackled with surprise and happiness. "Of course! We're on our way."

Minutes felt like hours as Shubman waited. Rimma and Sunil, arrived with Sidharth and Kiara, their faces lighting up with smiles as they entered the room. They gathered around Sara, who was resting in bed with their daughter cradled in her arms.

Rimma's eyes were misty with tears of joy as she reached out to touch her granddaughter's tiny hand. "She's beautiful, Shub. What are you naming her?"

Shubman glanced at Sara, who nodded in agreement. "We've decided to name her Anaya," Shubman said softly. "It means 'caring' and 'compassionate'—a name we think suits her perfectly."

Sara whispered softly, "Anaya Shubman Malhotra."

Sunil placed a hand on Shubman's shoulder, his eyes filled with pride. "Anaya is a lovely name. Congratulations to both of you."

As the family gathered around, sharing laughter and tears, Shubman felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude. The room was filled with love, and he knew this was just the beginning of a beautiful new chapter in their lives.

As everyone settled into the hospital room, the mood was joyous and celebratory. Rimma and Sunil beamed with pride, while Sidharth and Kiara eagerly took turns holding little Anaya and showering her with affectionate kisses.

Kiara looked at Shubman with a warm smile. "You're a dad now. How does it feel?"

Shubman chuckled, his eyes never leaving Anaya. "It's incredible, bhabhi. I never imagined I could feel this much love all at once."

Sidharth nodded in agreement. "You're going to be a great dad. Look at you—you're glowing!"

Sara, looking exhausted but content, reached out for Shubman's hand. "Thank you for being with me every step of the way," she said softly.

Shubman squeezed her hand gently. "There's no place I'd rather be."

Rimma, ever the caring mother, took a deep breath. "We're so happy for you both. Anaya is a blessing, and we'll all support you as a family. If you need anything at all, just ask."

The family spent the rest of the evening sharing stories, laughing, and marveling at little Anaya. Shubman couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by the love and support surrounding them. Each time he looked at his daughter, his heart swelled with pride.

As the night grew late, Shubman, Sara, and their family started to say their goodbyes. Rimma and Sunil promised to return soon, and Sidharth and Kiara left with promises to help however they could.

Once the room was quiet, Shubman sat beside Sara, holding Anaya as she slept peacefully in the crib. Sara looked at him with a content smile.

"Can you believe she's finally here?" Sara asked, her voice filled with wonder.

Shubman nodded, a smile spreading across his face. "It feels like a dream. I can't wait to watch her grow and experience everything with you."

Sara rested her head on Shubman's shoulder, her eyes closing as she let out a contented sigh. "Me too. It's going to be an amazing journey."

They sat together in the stillness of the hospital room, cherishing the quiet moments and the new, precious life they had just welcomed into their world.

As the hospital room grew quieter, Shubman and Sara took a moment to soak in the calm after the excitement of the day. The soft beeping of the monitors and the distant murmur of hospital staff created a soothing backdrop to their quietude.

Shubman leaned in close to Sara, his voice barely above a whisper. "What do you think her first word will be?"

Sara laughed softly, her eyes twinkling. "I have no idea, but I hope it's something sweet. Maybe 'mama' or 'dada.'"

They both chuckled, their gazes fixed on their sleeping daughter. The sight of Anaya, so small and delicate, filled them with a profound sense of responsibility and wonder.

Sara gently touched Anaya's tiny hand. "I've been thinking about all the milestones we'll experience together—her first steps, her first words, all the little moments that will make up her life."

Shubman nodded, his eyes filled with determination. "We'll be there for every single one of them. We'll support her, guide her, and give her all the love she deserves."

The room fell into a comfortable silence, and Shubman took the opportunity to reflect on the day's events. It had been a whirlwind, but seeing Anaya's face for the first time made every moment worth it.

"I've been thinking about names," Shubman said, breaking the silence. "I love Anaya, but if you ever want to talk about other names or anything else, just let me know. I want to make sure we're both happy with every choice we make for her."

Sara looked at him with gratitude. "I love the name Anaya. It feels right. But I appreciate you being open to discussing it. It means a lot."

As the night wore on, the room became a sanctuary of quiet reflection and anticipation for the future. Shubman and Sara held hands, sharing stories of their own childhoods and dreams for Anaya's future.

Eventually, exhaustion began to creep in, and Sara's eyes grew heavy. Shubman helped her settle into a more comfortable position, making sure she was well-supported and relaxed.

"You should try to get some rest," Shubman said softly. "I'll stay here with Anaya and keep watch."

Sara nodded, her eyes closing with a peaceful smile. "Thank you, Shub. I'm so glad you're here with me."

Shubman watched over them both, his heart full of love and gratitude. The quiet moments of the night were filled with a profound sense of connection and hope. He knew that while the journey ahead would be filled with challenges, it would also be filled with endless joy and wonder.

As he glanced at the small, peaceful face of his daughter, Shubman felt a deep sense of purpose. The future was bright, and together with Sara and their new family, he was ready to embrace every moment of it.
