Chapter 22

Shubman woke up and realized it was a holiday. He sat up in bed, stretching his arms and taking a moment to appreciate the unexpected free day. A sense of relief washed over him as he contemplated how to spend the day.

Shubman swung his legs over the side of the bed, feeling the coolness of the floor beneath his feet. He took a deep breath, savoring the quiet morning. With no classes or practices on his schedule, he felt a mix of excitement and relief.

After a quick shower, he changed into comfortable clothes and headed to the kitchen. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, and he found Rimma preparing breakfast.

"Good morning, sleepyhead!" she greeted with a smile.

"Morning, Mumma! This smells amazing," Shubman replied, grabbing a mug of coffee and taking a seat at the table.

As they shared breakfast, Rimma noticed a sparkle in his eyes. "You seem a bit more at ease today. What's on your mind?"

Shubman hesitated, thinking about Sara and everything that had happened. "Just... enjoying the day, I guess. Trying to find some peace."

Rimma nodded knowingly. "That's important, Shubman. Remember, it's okay to take time for yourself."

After breakfast, Shubman decided to take a walk in the park nearby. He grabbed his headphones and set out, hoping the fresh air would clear his mind. As he strolled, he reflected on the recent weeks and the challenges he faced, but he also felt a flicker of hope for the future.

Later in the afternoon, he received a message from Sara. His heart raced as he opened it, reading: Hey, can we talk? I miss you.

He took a deep breath, contemplating his response. After a moment, he typed back: I miss you too. Let's meet?

They agreed to meet at their favorite café later that evening. As he prepared for the meet-up, a mix of anticipation and nerves bubbled inside him. He wanted to see her, to reconnect, but he also knew there were feelings to unpack.

As he got ready, Shubman reminded himself to stay open and honest. He hoped this conversation could be a turning point for both of them.

Shubman arrived at the café a bit early, choosing a cozy corner table where they often sat together. He ordered a cup of tea and waited, his mind racing with thoughts of what he wanted to say and how he hoped Sara would respond.

When Sara walked in, Shubman felt a rush of emotions. She looked just as he remembered, but there was a hint of uncertainty in her eyes. She smiled softly as she approached the table.

"Hi, Shubman," she said, taking a seat across from him.

"Hi, Sara," he replied, trying to keep his voice steady. "It's good to see you."

They exchanged small talk for a few minutes, both of them skirting around the real reason they were there. Finally, Sara took a deep breath and looked directly at Shubman.

"I've missed you," she said. "I've been thinking a lot about us and everything that happened."

Shubman nodded, feeling a lump in his throat. "I've missed you too. I've been doing a lot of thinking as well. I want us to be honest with each other, to really talk about what went wrong and how we can move forward."

Sara reached out and took his hand. "I want that too. I know we both made mistakes, but I believe we can learn from them and be better together."

They spent the next hour talking openly, sharing their feelings and fears. It was a difficult conversation, but it was also cathartic. By the end of it, they both felt a sense of relief and a renewed connection.

As they left the café, Shubman felt hopeful. He knew there would be more challenges ahead, but he was ready to face them with Sara by his side. They walked together, hand in hand, into the evening, ready to start a new chapter in their story.

Later that night, Shubman returned home, feeling a mix of relief and exhaustion. He found his Sidharth, lounging on the couch, engrossed in a video game.

"Hey, bhai," Shubman called out, dropping his keys on the table.

Sidharth paused the game and looked up. "Hey, Shub! How was your day?"

Shubman took a seat next to him, a small smile playing on his lips. "It was... eventful. I met up with Sara."

Sidharth raised an eyebrow, his interest piqued. "Oh? How did that go?"

Shubman took a deep breath, recounting the details of their conversation at the café. He shared how they had talked openly about their feelings and the mistakes they had made, and how they both felt a sense of relief and hope by the end of it.

Sidharth listened intently, nodding occasionally. "That sounds intense, but it also sounds like it was really good for both of you."

"Yeah, it was," Shubman agreed. "I feel like we're on the right path now. It's not going to be easy, but I think we can make it work."

Sidharth clapped him on the shoulder. "I'm glad to hear that, man. You deserve to be happy, and if Sara makes you happy, then I'm all for it."

Shubman smiled, feeling a warmth spread through him. "Thanks, bhai. Your support means a lot."

"Anytime, bro," Sidharth replied with a grin. "Now, how about you join me for a game? I could use some competition."

Shubman laughed, feeling lighter than he had in weeks. "You're on!"

As they settled into their game, Shubman felt grateful for his brother's unwavering support. No matter what challenges lay ahead, he knew he could count on Sidharth to be there for him. And that made all the difference.

As the night wore on, Shubman and Sidharth became engrossed in their game, their laughter and competitive banter filling the room. They were so absorbed that they didn't notice Kiara, standing in the doorway with her arms crossed and a stern look on her face.

"Really, you two?" Kiara said, her voice cutting through the noise. "It's almost midnight, and you're still playing video games?"

Sidharth and Shubman turned to see her, both looking a bit sheepish. "Sorry, Kiki," Sidharth said, pausing the game. "We got a bit carried away."

Kiara sighed, shaking her head. "You both have responsibilities tomorrow. Shub, don't you have college tomorrow? And Sid, you promised that you will come to set tomorrow."

Shubman nodded, feeling a bit guilty. "You're right, bhabhi. We should have been more mindful of the time."

Sidharth stood up, stretching. "Yeah, sorry about that, Kiki. We'll wrap it up now."

Kiara's expression softened a bit. "I know you guys need to unwind, but you also need to get enough rest. Come on, let's call it a night."

Shubman and Sidharth exchanged a glance, both grateful for Kiara's understanding. "Thanks, bhabhi," Shubman said. "We'll be more careful next time."

Kiara smiled, giving them both a hug. "Good. Now, off to bed with you two."

As they headed to their rooms, Shubman felt a sense of contentment. Despite the late-night scolding, he appreciated having such a supportive family. It was moments like these that reminded him of what truly mattered.
