Chapter 21
It had been two weeks since the heartbreaking incident, and both Shubman and Sara were struggling. Shubman had thrown himself into his studies and sports, trying to drown his pain, while Sara spent her days in a haze of regret and sorrow.
One day, as Shubman sat in the corridor lost in his thoughts, he heard someone shouting. Curiosity piqued, he followed the voice. Turning a corner, he saw Sara standing there, her face flushed with anger and desperation.
"I did everything you said! Now why are you still threatening Shubman?" Sara shouted, her voice trembling with emotion.
Shubman's heart skipped a beat. What was going on? He stepped closer, careful not to be seen, and listened intently.
The guy Sara was confronting sneered, "You think it's that simple? I have my reasons, and I'm not done yet."
Sara's eyes filled with tears, but she stood her ground. "You've caused enough damage. Leave him alone. This has nothing to do with him."
Shubman couldn't stay hidden any longer. He stepped out, his expression a mix of confusion and anger. "What's going on here?"
Both Sara and the other person turned to face him. The guy's smirk faltered for a moment before regaining composure. "This doesn't concern you, Shubman."
"It concerns me if you're threatening me or someone I care about," Shubman replied, his voice steady despite the turmoil inside.
Sara looked at Shubman, her eyes pleading. "Shubman, I... I was trying to protect you. There's been a misunderstanding."
The stranger scoffed. "Protect him? You mean by betraying him?"
Shubman felt a surge of anger. "Enough! Who are you, and what do you want?"
The stranger chuckled darkly. "That's for me to know. Just stay out of it, Shubman."
With that, the stranger walked away, leaving Shubman and Sara standing there in the tense silence.
Shubman turned to Sara, his eyes filled with hurt and confusion. "Sara, what was that all about?"
Sara took a deep breath, tears spilling down her cheeks. "Shubman, I'm so sorry. I didn't want you to get hurt. That person... they manipulated me. They blackmailed me into doing things I never wanted to do."
Shubman's heart ached at seeing her so broken. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"I was scared," Sara admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "I thought I could handle it on my own, but I only made things worse."
Shubman sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Sara, you should have come to me. We could have faced it together."
Sara nodded, wiping her tears. "I know. I realize that now. I was just so afraid of losing you."
Shubman's anger began to melt, replaced by a deep sadness. "Sara, I don't know if I can trust you again. But I need to understand everything first."
Sara nodded, her eyes filled with hope. "I'll tell you everything, Shubman. Just please, give me a chance to make things right."
Shubman looked into her eyes, seeing the sincerity and remorse. "Okay. Let's start from the beginning."
As they walked away together, Shubman knew it would take time to heal, but he was willing to try. They had a long road ahead, but perhaps, together, they could find their way back to each other.
As they walked to a quieter place, Shubman and Sara found a bench under a large oak tree. The dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves provided a sense of calm amidst their turmoil. Shubman sat down, and Sara took a deep breath before she began to speak."
Shubman, it started a few months ago," Sara said, her voice trembling slightly. "There was this guy, Rohan. He was in a few of my classes. At first, he seemed nice, but then he started to act... strange. He'd send me messages constantly, even when I didn't reply. They got more and more threatening."
Shubman listened, his jaw clenched with anger. "Why didn't you tell me about this earlier?"
"I thought I could handle it," Sara continued. "I thought if I ignored him, he would stop. But he didn't. He started following you, taking pictures of you without your knowledge. He sent them to me, saying things like 'I can get to him anytime' and 'If you don't do what I say, he'll get hurt.' I was terrified, Shubman. I didn't know what to do."
Shubman felt a chill run down his spine. The thought of someone stalking him and threatening Sara was horrifying. "What did he want you to do?"
Sara's eyes filled with tears. "He wanted me to... to make you believe I was cheating on you. He said if I didn't, he'd hurt you. I thought if I played along, he'd stop. But it only got worse."
Shubman took a deep breath, trying to process everything. "Why did he want to do this to us?"
Sara shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "I don't know, Shubman. He never told me why. Maybe he was just jealous, or maybe he wanted to ruin what we had. I never wanted to hurt you. I was trying to protect you."
Shubman felt a wave of emotions crash over him. Anger, confusion, sadness, and a deep sense of betrayal. But as he looked at Sara, he also felt a surge of empathy. She had been trapped, manipulated, and scared.
"We need to go to the police," Shubman said firmly. "This guy can't keep getting away with this."
Sara nodded, wiping her tears. "I know. I was just so afraid. But you're right. We need to stop him."
Shubman reached out and took her hand, squeezing it gently. "We'll do this together, Sara. We'll make sure he can't hurt anyone else."
Sara looked at him with a mixture of relief and gratitude. "Thank you, Shubman. I don't deserve your forgiveness, but I'm so grateful you're willing to give me a chance."
Shubman gave her a small, sad smile. "It's going to take time, Sara. But we'll get through this. Together."
As they sat there, hand in hand, a sense of determination settled over them. They had a long road ahead, but they were ready to face it, side by side.
Shubman reached home and saw Sidharth lounging on the couch. With a weary expression, he trudged up to his room, changed into comfortable clothes, and then came back down to join his brother. He sank into the seat next to Sidharth, his shoulders slumped with fatigue and worry.
Sidharth looked at him, concern etched on his face. "What happened, Shub?"
Shubman sighed deeply, running a hand through his hair. "It's been a rough couple of weeks, Bhai. Sara and I... we've been through a lot."
Sidharth's brow furrowed. "Tell me everything. I'm here for you."
Shubman leaned back, staring at the ceiling for a moment as he gathered his thoughts. "Sara was being threatened by this guy, Rohan. He was stalking me, sending her pictures, and making her do things she didn't want to. I found out she was kissing him, but it wasn't her choice. She was trying to protect me."
Sidharth listened intently, his face growing more serious. "That's awful. Why didn't she tell you sooner?"
"She was scared," Shubman explained. "She thought she could handle it alone, but it just kept getting worse. I was so hurt and angry when I found out, but now I understand why she did it. We're trying to move past it, but it's not easy."
Sidharth put a reassuring hand on Shubman's shoulder. "I'm glad you two are talking about it. Communication is key. But you don't have to go through this alone. We can help."
Shubman nodded, feeling a bit of the weight lift from his shoulders. "Thanks, Bhai. We've already involved the police, and they're handling Rohan. I just... I feel so many things. Betrayal, sadness, but also hope that we can rebuild."
Sidharth squeezed his shoulder. "You two will get through this. Just take it one day at a time. And remember, we're all here to support you."
Shubman managed a small smile. "I appreciate that, Bhai. I really do. I just want things to be normal again."
"They will be," Sidharth assured him. "It'll take time, but you'll get there."
As they sat in the quiet comfort of the living room, Shubman felt a renewed sense of determination. With his family's support and his own resolve, he knew he and Sara could overcome this challenge and emerge stronger on the other side.
After his conversation with Sidharth, Shubman felt a bit lighter, as if sharing his burden had helped to ease the weight on his shoulders. He decided to spend the rest of the evening with his family, hoping their presence would provide some comfort.
He wandered into the kitchen, where Kiara was preparing dinner. The aroma of spices and freshly cooked food filled the air, making him realize just how hungry he was. Kiara glanced up and smiled warmly at him.
"Hey, Shub. Dinner will be ready soon. Why don't you set the table?"
Shubman nodded, grateful for the distraction. He grabbed the plates, cutlery, and glasses, setting them neatly on the dining table. Rimma and Sunil joined them, and soon the whole family was seated, enjoying a hearty meal together.
The conversation was light, filled with laughter and stories from their day. Sidharth made sure to keep things upbeat, telling funny anecdotes and teasing Kiara in a way that made everyone chuckle. Shubman found himself smiling more genuinely than he had in weeks.
After dinner, they moved to the living room, where Rimma suggested watching a movie. Shubman agreed, eager to lose himself in a story for a while. They chose a comedy, something light and entertaining, and settled in on the couches with bowls of popcorn.
As the movie played, Shubman felt a sense of normalcy returning. He leaned back against the cushions, allowing himself to relax and enjoy the moment. The sound of his family's laughter was soothing, a reminder that he wasn't alone.
Later that night, after the movie ended and everyone started to head to bed, Shubman found himself lingering in the living room. Sidharth noticed and sat back down beside him.
"You okay?" Sidharth asked quietly.
"Yeah," Shubman replied, his voice soft. "Just needed a moment to take it all in. It's been a rough time, but tonight helped."
Sidharth smiled and gave him a reassuring pat on the back. "Remember, we're always here for you. Don't hesitate to lean on us when you need to."
Shubman nodded, feeling a deep sense of gratitude for his family's support. "Thanks, Bhai. I'll remember that."
With that, Shubman finally headed upstairs to his room. He changed into his pajamas and climbed into bed, feeling a sense of calm wash over him. The events of the past few weeks still weighed on his mind, but he knew he wasn't facing them alone.
As he lay there, he thought about Sara. He missed her, and he knew they still had a long way to go to rebuild their relationship. But for the first time in a while, he felt hopeful. They had taken the first steps towards healing, and with time, he believed they could find their way back to each other.
With those thoughts, Shubman closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep, finding solace in the knowledge that he was surrounded by love and support.
