Chapter 11
"Tylee, fawn, let me do that." Dan sighs.
"I can put a few saddles back on the rack." She declares.
"Maybe, but I'm not going to let you." He picks up one of the remaining saddles and slides it on the rack.
After three days of feeding hay and cake the snow quit and melted down to half an inch. Today it was raining heavily and with nothing pressing the two had opted to cleaning the barn out.
"You are a hopeless situation." Tylee mutters as he finishes putting the remaining saddles on the racks.
"No, my fawn, you are hopeless situation." He plants a kiss on her cheek. With a roll of her eyes she slips her hand in his. His overjoyed smile is enough to let her know she made the right move.
"What else is on the back burner that we can do in the rain?" He asks wrapping his arms around her.
"Town is the only thing left that actually needs to be done." Dread laces her voice.
"Fawn, we're going to have to tell Becca sooner or later."
"I know. Does it have to be today though?"
"Sooner it is done the sooner the weight is gone."
"You are way too smart for your own good." She states with a smile.
"I like it that way." A mischievous twinkle in his eye.
"On that note! Are you coming with me to face the chatty Cathy or must I face her allow?" Dan chuckles and kisses her forehead.
"I won't leave you to face the beast alone."
"Thank you." They get what they need together and load up in her pickup. Daisy takes the back seat with an disapproving bark at Dan. He insists on driving and after a heated argument Tylee gives in.
"You might has well get used to me driving cause it's gonna happen." He states in victory.
"If you recall you work for me." She retorts.
"That may be so, but I wasn't raised a slacker."
"Neither was I."
"Your not a guy though. We are suppose to do things like that. Hold doors, drive, carry things."
"Okay you might have a point."
"Of course I have a point I always have valid points!" He declares with a smirk.
"Don't get to full of yourself there." She shakes her head with a smile.
"I'll try it is just so hard with all these super powers."
"Right." She rolls her eyes at hm.
"Ouch! That hurt! I worked really hard on that come back and you just shot it down."
"Oh please! I'm not that bad. Besides you didn't have enough time to 'work really hard' on your come back." She makes air quotations with her fingers. Dan laughs in amusement and drapes an arm around her.
Before long they pull up to the feed store. Tylee clips on Daisy's leash before opening the door letting the dog out.
"And the nightmare begins." She mutters as Dan holds the door for her entering behind her.
"It will be fine Fawn." He whispers.
"Tylee! It's been like forever! I wasn't in here the last time you came in!" Becca's unmistakable voice shrieks with joy. Becca pulls Tylee into a hug. Dan coughs announcing his presences as it seems Becca over looked him. She releases Tylee and looks at him then back to Tylee.
"Wait a second... ARE YOU TWO DATING?!" Her screams are ear piercing and her smile is bright enough to set the world on fire.
"Well you-" Dan starts.
"YOU ARE! WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?!" She starts jumping up and down with excitement.
"A couple of weeks ago." Dan answers wrapping an arm around Tylee's waist.
"AND YOU DIDN'T TELL ME?! HOW COULD YOU?!" Becca screeches.
"Because we knew you would do this." Tylee whispers. Dan laughs at her comment and Becca's facial expression.
"Well we haven't really seen you since." Dan makes a valid excuse.
"Technology is very up to date. Including cell phones I know you both have!"
"Okay that's true, but is that anyway to tell a good friend big news?" Tylee joins the conversation timidly.
"I guess not. That's just so exiting! So when's the wedding?" Both Dan and Tylee acquire horrified looks. They had just begun dating and although the thought had crossed Dan's mind it was a long ways off before he asked her.
"Sorry I just couldn't resist!" Her excitement shows no sign of wavering and her apology is small, but her heart is all for good.
"So do you have any new winter coats in?" Dan changes the subject.
"Yeah I just got a new shipment in yesterday." Becca's joyfulness spreading from her voice to the extra bounce in her step. As they move over to the rack Tylee gives Dan a thankful smile. He returns it with a comforting one.
"Wait! You always come in every two weeks for Rockin' Chair supply run. I haven't seen you in like a month and a half." Becca turns to Dan then glances back at Tylee who is engrossed in a jacket.
"I guess that would be because I don't work there any more." His smug grin puzzles the social butterfly more.
"Then where are you working? They don't just give things to you around here."
"No, they don't. You could say that I work for a very productive ranch." Dan sends Tylee a wink as he aggravates Becca.
"There are like ten of those with in a three hundred mile radius. Which one? When did you quit?" She spits questions out at him.
"I quit about a month and a half ago." He shrugs enjoying Becca tying herself up in knots.
"Dan Hargrove! Tell me where you are working!" She declares.
"Well you know that ranch just outside of town about two and a half hours? The one that has a sign over the entrance that has three words. I think the letters are H-e-a-r-t-s B-o-n-d R-a-n-c-h." He smirks as Becca stares at the ceiling trying to figure out what he is spelling.
"OH MY GOODNESS! YOU ARE JOKING!" Tylee is pretty sure that the whole town could hear Becca's screams. "YOU ARE FOR REAL WORKING FOR TYLEE?!"
"Sure am."
"What?! How could you not tell me that?! When did this happen? Did y'all start dating before or after?" She spews questions at him ninety miles a hour.
"Before." Tylee states implying 'duh'.
"Well you know things happen! When did you start working there?" Becca asks Dan the question.
"When I quit working at Rockin' Chair."
"So you stopped working at Rockin' Chair to work at Hearts Bond? That's great!"
"I am going to look for the panels I need." Tylee announces heading to the back door.
"I'll be out in a few minutes!" Dan calls after her. Once the door has closed behind he turns to the Carhartt coat that she had been looking at. It was brown, hoodless, with big pockets on the outside. Inside it was wool lined with two zipper pockets.
"Can you wrap this?" He asks Becca handing it to her.
"Of course!" She declares with a twinkle in her eye. After Dan pays for it and sticks it in Tylee's pickup he heads out back to the large ranch supplies. Tylee is a tempting to measure a fence panel, but the wind keeps blowing the measuring tape off.
"Want me to help you with that Fawn?"
"Would you mind?" She asks with a grateful smile.
"Not at all." Dan holds one end while she pulls the other end and reads it. With a satisfied nod she rolls the tape up. "This the size you need?"
"Yeah it will fit at in place of that wire gate at the pens." She tells him as they walk back to the feed store door.
"You mean that you are replacing the tightest gate that ever existed?" He teases.
"Well you know people are getting weak theses days." She smirks.
"You are totally the weak one. It takes the two of us to open the thing, but I could do it if I stopped being nice." With a annoyed look Tylee punches his arm as she walks through the door he holds open. After ordering feed and fencing supplies that would be shipped to the ranch Tylee and Dan load the panel and head out.
"So what do you want to eat for lunch?" Tylee asks as they cross the cattle guard leading to her house.
"I don't know. How about a movie on the couch with you?"
"That is not something to eat!" She declares giving him the 'be real' look.
"Fine. Hamburger and fries." He smirks as she glares at him.
"You are on your own." She states turning to stare out the window.
"Fawn I'm just kidding. Please turn around and let me see your beautiful eyes." He pleads. Tylee holds back giggles as she smirks, it is all a act. By the time he pulls up to her house she can't stand it any longer. She bursts into laughter Dan puts on his mad face and stands in front of her. Her laughter comes to a abrupt stop and her face holds a timid scared look.
"You are too beautiful." He tells her with a bright smile. Her smile returns and she kisses his cheek.
