•Principalities and Powers•

It was Friday and Lucas hadn't come to school since Tuesday, I still didn't understand what was going on between Xian and I and the whole school was acting weird.

First of all, Lucas and Jonah had gone AWOL since Tuesday and Lucas hadn't been answering my calls. I didn't know where he lived so I couldn't go visiting. The only thing I could do was pray he was alright and hope to see him on Monday.

Mine and Xian's relationship still confused the hell out of me. I didn't even know if you could call what we had a relationship. Xian was overprotective and sometimes it could be cute but it's mostly so damn annoying. I literally had no other friends except for his, because he glares at everyone who so much as looks my way.
And to be frank with you, I probably should call it off, but for some reason, every time he comes within two feet, my brain turn to jelly.
It was confusing because I didn't even know what we were!
I knew I felt some kinda way everytime I was with Xian, but could you say you were in a relationship with someone you've only known for a week?

It was lunch break and thankfully, Xian, Lance and Ella were having some serious conversation so I could sneak out for some fresh air.

I sound like I'm under freaking bondage! Sneak out?!

I walked from the indoor cafeteria to the outdoor one. There were a few people sitting on the tables but I walked to a bench under a huge tree.

You wouldn't believe who I saw sitting on the bench.

It was Jonah, looking like he'd missed five consecutive days of sleep and trust me when I tell you, it wasn't a good look for him.

Jonah was one of the few people in this school who wasn't white.

He was Asian-American and you could notice the lack of sleep from the dark rings under his small monolid eyes.

"Hey Jonah." I said, taking a seat next to him on the bench.
He looked like he was lost in thought, and I was the last person he expected to see.

"Oh, hey Abby, I didn't see you there." He said after coming over his shock.

"Yeah, I noticed. You looked like you were lost in a trance. Are you alright though? I haven't seen you or Lucas since Tuesday." I prodded, playing with the transparent beads in my hair.

"Oh, Lucas and I have just been dealing with some..." He paused, as if looking for how to put the information he was telling me.

"Some family issues." He finally finished.

I wasn't aware that Jonah and Lucas were related? But I didn't want to ask more questions and make him uncomfortable, I mean, I hardly knew the guy.

"Oh no, I hope everything's alright?" I asked, deciding not to prod any further.

"Yeah, things are getting better, Lucas should be in school on Monday." Jonah said, not particularly sounding like things were getting better, but I decided to let it go. It wasn't my business anyways.

School was over and I hadn't seen Xian since he, Ella and Lance went off to discuss something during lunch break which was really weird.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not the clingy type, but Xian sure as hell was. If we weren't in class there's no way he'd let me leave his sight.

I'm sure you're thinking, "How very unfeminist of you Abibi! Letting a man dictate your actions?!"

But see, it's not that simple. Xian doesn't tower over you and go "Well you can't go anywhere because I said so, and I'm the Alpha male."

If he did, it would have things much easier, as he would have had a missing nut, and men don't seem to appreciate that kinda thing y'know?

"So how does he do it?" You may ask. He's a real sly fox, that one.
Every time I try to leave, he'd pull me back and envelope me in his arms! And I couldn't resist the tosser's cologne. Then he'd start telling me how pretty I was, and then play with my hair!

So as you can see, the odds are really stacked against me.

I decided not to think so much of Xian's absence and go home. I didn't have much homework to do, so I decided to get them all done tonight and have my Saturday and Sunday free.

I got home and took a long bath letting all the stress of school and Xian wash off me with the beautiful sound of Johnny Drille's voice echoing off my bathroom walls.

I finished all my homework and got bored. I decided to go for a run. I hadn't had one ever since we moved and the effects were showing. I had to much energy I needed to release.

I remembered a trail from exploring the forests one day when I was bored and my parents were still at work.

I put my running shoes on, my phone in my pocket, my ear pods in my ears, and with the Weeknd's 'Starboy' on full volume, I was on my way.

I didn't know how long I ran for, the forest never seemed to end and surprisingly I didn't seem to get tired. In fact a new type of exhilarating energy seemed to burst through my veins as I ran even faster.

Finally I stopped at a stream. The water was so clear it looked unreal. I bent down to take a close look at the cute, tiny fish that swam in the crystal liquid.
It was when I put my hands into the stream to feel some of the cold water on skin, that I heard a bush rustling.

Fuck. Shit.

Were there wild animals out here?

I can't die oo, I haven't gone for a TXT concert yet!

The rustling seemed to be getting even closer and my heart beat seemed to increase with the closeness.
My hand unconsciously went to the necklace that lay right above my heart and I could've sworn that the necklace burnt me.

Before I could process anything that was happening a huge grey wolf burst out of the bushes.

Now, I had never seen an actual wolf in real life, but from all the Natgeo Wild I had spent my childhood watching, I could've sworn they weren't meant to be that big.

I didn't understand what was happening, but at the exact moment the wolf lunged towards me, my hand shot out and I kid you not, a clean streak of white electricity flew out my arm and hit the wolf.

My brain was still in lag mode so you could understand the added shock that I felt from witnessing the huge, grey wolf in front of me turn into a human being.

A naked human being!

A hot naked human being!
Wait no! Get your priorities together Abibi!

I bound all agents of darkness that were after my destiny as I took a step closer.
I was laughing when my Pastor was talking about Powers and Principalities but now it's like I need to be increasing my offering in church.

Upon closer inspection I noticed who the human being (or wolf, I didn't know again.) was,

NO. FUCKING. WAY.

A naked Lucas Boyd was laying on the floor holding on to the place I had supposedly burnt him.

Did I mention he was naked?

"O...oh God, is that you Abby?"
"What the fuck ?" He half shouted half groaned.

Ahn ahn, this one was not acting like someone they just electrocuted oo. Why is he now shouting at me like he didn't just try to kill me first.

"It's me oo, but I could ask you the same thing ." I said with a grim line on my face.

"What the fuck Lucas?"

*†*†*†*†*†*†*†*†*†*†*†*†*†*

"So you're a werewolf ?" I said to myself more than anything, trying to make sense of the past thirty minutes.

"You're a werewolf."
"I'm a werewolf."

After recovering from the earlier shock of seeing Lucas turn from an oversized dog back to a human again. He suggested we go back to my place and try to understand the whole situation.

I knew my mum would be working a nightshift at her hospital and my dad wouldn't be back till like 10 o'clock and it was only 3:30 so I agreed.

We ran back to my place and he easily outran me(in his wolf form of course), but my pride didn't allow me to to ask him to slow down and I nearly collapsed when we reached my house.

We both took a shower, separately, and now here I was, sitting on my bed with Lucas Boyd in my favorite pink Barbie T-shirt that I kind of hated to admit he rocked better than I did, smelling like my apple-coconut body wash, a pair of my oversized shorts on his muscular legs and a whole pantry of snacks between us.

"You've asked this question like ten times." He said, popping a Pringle into his mouth.

"Werewolves exist? What the fuck!" I said under my breath.

When I asked God to send me Jacob because Bella (stupidly, might I add.) rejected him, I didn't think he'd take me seriously.

"We like to keep a low profile. Humans tend to overreact towards anything they can't understand." He replied, looking more than comfortable snuggled against Mr. Tummy Tums, my favorite teddy.

"So like how does the whole werewolf thing work? How many of you guys are there?" I asked, opening my bag of crisps.

"Well, legend has it that werewolves are descendants of the moon goddess. Werewolves have two sides, a human one and a wolf one. It's like having a best friend with you all the time, you can feel each other's emotions, although sometimes it can be kinda annoying.

You first get to turn, or as we say it shift into your wolf form when you hit puberty, so it's different for everyone, but you always have your wolf from the moment you're born." Lucas informed me, taking a break to put another Pringle into his mouth.

"Although sometimes it's the opposite for other wolves, it all depends on the form your mother was in when she gave birth to you. It isn't advisable to give birth in your wolf form because when the new wolf gets to shift to a human being, it's hard for them to adapt into society and they could turn rogue.

A rogue is a wolf that doesn't have a pack, usually because they've been cast out for committing some heinous crime or because they've chosen to go rogue on their own. More often than not, rogues mean trouble, in fact that's where I've been the past few days I've been missing from school.

There's been an alarming rate of rogue attacks in my pack, The Blood Crescent pack and I've been trying to track down the source. We're getting closer but we still haven't connected all the dots.

When rogues attack, they do it without co-ordination, but from these recent attacks it's clear to see that there's someone in charge of these attacks, it can't be a coincidence." He said, finishing.

I still couldn't believe everything I was hearing.

Werewolves exist?

"You said you belonged to the Blood Crescent pack. Just how many of these packs are there?" I asked, still mystified that other creatures apart from humans existed.

"Well in this state we have two packs, my pack and the Shadow Bane pack, your boyfriend's pack." He said, a frown setting into his face at the last sentence.

Boyfriend ke? Me that I'm still waiting for somebody's son to find.

Wait first...

"Xian ?" I spluttered.

So Xian was a werewolf too ?

"Yup, he's the Alpha- to- be of the Shadow Bane pack." Lucas said with an uninterested look, as if the mere mention of Xian's name bored him to death.

"First of all, he's not my boyfriend, and second of all what's an Alpha." I asked, slightly ticked off that Xian hadn't told me that he was a werewolf.

"Boyfriend or not he's your mate, I can smell him on you. He's already marked your scent." Lucas said, looking irritated. I wonder why the both of them hated each other so much.

"What do you mean, you can smell him on me?" I asked, bending my head a bit to the side to exaggerate my confusion.

"Werewolves have a powerful sense of smell, multiply the sense of a normal wolf by five, that's how well we can smell.

Xian marked your scent, it's a thing werewolves do when they find their mate to warn other wolves to back off, and a mate is like the missing piece of a werewolf.

Werewolf legend says, when the moon goddess was creating werewolves, she divided each werewolve's soul into two and put the soul into another person, so when they meet they completed each other. There are three steps after someone meets their mate, first of all they mark their scent like I mentioned before, to tell other wolves that they're off-limits, secondly they mate, which is basically sex and finally they mark them for real, which is biting the mate, usually on the neck, but it could be anywhere."

My cheeks heated up at the thought of having sex with Xian.

No Abiola, stay focused, he fucking marked your scent. What if you didn't want to be his mate?

I'm a free woman, I can't be tied down to one person just yet.

I didn't know whether to be angry or touched that Xian thought I was his other half.

"An Alpha is like the leader of a pack." Lucas continued, thankfully getting my mind off of performing Amoral Congress with Xian.

"There's a heirachy in every pack, the Alpha is in charge of everyone in the pack, their Beta is the second in command and The Gamma is the third in command and is usually in charge of the pack warriors. Xian and I are the Alpha-to-be's of our pack, we'll inherited the position form our fathers' when we turn 18." He paused, setting down his can of Pringles.

"Enough about me Abiola, What are you? Because you sure as hell aren't human." Lucas said, raising an eyebrow, leaving me with exactly the same question,

What the hell am I?
