Chapter 3.

(Time skip to the end of the day)

"She seems nice, doesn't she?" Rachel smiled, as we discussed the girl, Mai, who had shared our strange encounter this morning.

"Yeah," I agreed. "We should invite her over for one of our anime movie marathons."

"We should! The bell has only just rung so we could try and find her now!" Rachel suggested, getting up from her desk and heading for the door.

"It has to be one of these-" I peered through one of the doors before hearing someone shout angrily from the room next door.

"...Spirits gathering in groups give me headaches..." A girl with long, black hair tied in plaits said, standing in the doorway. We looked past her and saw Mai and her two friends.

"So your blaming us for that?"

"Of course I am. When you tell ghost stories they attract low level spirits who attract stronger spirits-"

"Who attract us!" I said in a menacing growl, successfully freaking them out. Me and Rachel made our hands into claws and arched our backs, doing our best 'from beyond the grave' look. Mai and her friends found it funny but the girl with the plaits didn't look to happy.

"Are you mocking me?" She said in a displeasing tone.

"'Course not." I stated plainly. "We saw an opportunity to enter the conversation and we took it."

"Ghost style!" Rachel added.

"Spirit." The girl corrected.

"Tomato, tomato." I shrugged.

"When you tell those stories your putting me at risk."

"From what? Peeing your pants?" Rachel giggled earning a death glare from the occult girl.

"Tell me, if your so sensitive to spirits do you sense anything at the old school house?"

"Oh my gosh Kazuya came to find us!" Mai's friend's chorused. Mai just sighed.

"Not a fan of the ladies man?" I nudged her arm, winking. She scoffed and shook her head.

"As if!"

"Are you the one who put these girls up to telling ghost stories?"

"You didn't answer my question. Could it be your psychic abilities are made up?"

"For your information there are numerous spirits of those who died in the war in the old school house, too many, in fact I'm positive it used to be a hospital." She stated. We snapped our fingers in a z shaped formation, pursing our lips and raising our eyebrows.

"Hm, I wasn't aware of it being a hospital, but I know the school was founded long before the war. Could it be that this was a medical school?" He said to no-one in particular.

"What are you, a Private Investigator?" I scoffed before a light-bulb flashed above my head.I turned to Rachel and it seems she had the same idea.

"When there's something strange, in your neighbourhood. Who ya gonna call? Ghost Busters!" We sung, before nearly collapsing in laughter.

"If you had psychic abilities you'd understand." The girl sighed, ignoring our awesome comeback.

"We're sorry, Kazuya but can we do this some other time?"

"Yeah, I'm not in the mood for ghost stories anymore." Mai's friends said.

"Oh, some other time then? Oh and Mai, could you come with me? You too Chuckle Brothers." He said. We stopped laughing and stared at him blankly.

"We're not old men!" We yelled, running after the pair.

"How's your friend doing?" Mai asked sympathetically.

"Yes, about him."

"He didn't die did he?!" I gasped.

"He has a badly sprained leg and won't be able to walk for a while."

"Does everyone just ignore us?" I sighed.

"Gosh! Will you tell him I'm sorry!?" Mai gasped.

"And that we can make him cake if he gets sick of hospital food!"

"What were you two doing there anyway?" Mai asked.

"Working."

"Oh, so your his assistant or something?"

"No, not quite. More like the other way round." We all gasped.

"But he's like-and your like-and WHAT?!"

"And my assistant is stuck in bed so it's up to you three to take his place."

"All of us? Are you implying he's secretly fat?!" I raised an eyebrow, mentally storing this conversation to use against him later.

"If I recall correctly, it was a shared blame, am I right?" Rachel nodded.

"Hey now just hold on a second!" Mai shouted, clearly not happy.

"The cameras broken-"

"Sorry 'bout that..."

"My assistant tried to stop you touching that and now it's in pieces."

"I can buy you a new one."

"And we'll chip in!"

"It's quite expensive."

"Well then I don't know what to do..." Mai sighed.

"You can't afford to buy a new one so there's only one course we can take."

"Follow the yellow brick road!" Rachel said in a high pitched voice. The faintest of smiled was glimpsed on his face before it disappeared in an instant. At that moment, we vowed to make him laugh.

"You'll work off the debt as my assistant."

"Sure!" Me and Rachel agreed. Mai, however, didn't look to pleased.

"Your assistant? You seriously think I should work for you?"

"Well that's what I said."

"What do you do at your job?" She asked, a look of disgust on her face.

"Please say ghost buster, please say ghost buster!" I murmured.

"I hunt ghosts." He stated.

"Boom! Close enough!" I high-fived Rachel.

"We're working for a real life ghost hunter!" She whisper screamed.

"Best. Job. Ever!"  We grinned.

"Hu?" Mai sighed.

"In other words I exorcise spirits, ghosts. My company, Shibuya Psychic Research was hired to induct an investigation on the old school house."

"Psychic research?"

"Was that a question?" He snarled.

"Was that an answer?" I said, jumping to Mai's defence.

"Psychic research is another term for spiritual investigation. We basically examine reports of supernatural activity phenomenon."

"Try saying that as fast as you can!" Rachel said.

"Phenomenon, phenomenon, phenomenumnumunum!" I giggled.

"And I run the company." He finished, turning to shoot a glare at Mai before leaving.

"Woaaah." We all chorused as he left.
