Chapter 11
"Mai!" We called out as she fell, crashing to the ground as we ran to get out. Me and Rachel caught her arms before Monk came to aid us, putting the young girl on his shoulders and running. We draped a blanket over her body as she slept and sat her in the boot of the car.
"Mai, can you here us?" Monk said softly. It had just turned 4 in the morning and the brunette was still out cold, which was worrying to say the least.
"Did Naru come back?" She asked sleepily, blinking herself awake. We shook our heads.
"And Koroto?"
"She went home, which is what we should do. It's dangerous here." Ayako stated, which this time, we agreed.
"We can't just run away!" Mai shouted, making me jump.
"Your boss was the one who ran away first! He's probably home crying himself to sleep!"
"Well, we did gang up on him." Monk added, frowning.
"This is Naru we're talking about, the big-headed, pompous, stuck up narcissist." Mai laughed.
"Maybe he's at home, boiling in anger as he makes stray epogy (A/N: God only knows how to spell that...Damn you John using Ghost-Hunting vocabulary which spell check doesn't know!) dolls of us." John said with a straight face.
"We're doomed!" Rachel cried out, throwing her hands in the air.
The next say we were back at school, set to sit our exams. We were currently sat outside the exam hall, revising our notes when two first years came up to us.
"Is it true, you were helping the Ghost Hunters at the old school house?!" The boy asked, his smile stretching to his ears. His friend, who had round glasses, reminding me of Harry Potter, also looked exited.
"Where did you hear that?" Rachel asked.
"Korota, she's been telling everyone!" They replied, looking slightly disheartened.
"Yeah, it is. Spooky stuff!" I laughed as their smiles grew bigger and they looked at us in admiration. That was one thing that I liked about Japan- the respect for your seniors.
"Wow! That's so cool!" They said, running off to join their friends to tell them the news.
"Kids these days," Rachel grinned as we entered the hall.
After the exam, we stood with a few of our other friends who had taken the exam with us and discussed the questions and the like.
"The examiner sat in the chair right by me, it was so nerve wrecking!" Riko, a short girl with the brains of all of us combined, said, covering her face.
"I know and those shoes! They were so squeaky!" Rachel added, looking past her to see a teacher heading straight towards us.
"Rachel, Ashleigh, your wanted in the principal's office." They said, and we followed, shocked as to why we were being called there. When we did get there, the whole Ghost Hunting team was there. We were told to sit down and the curtains were drawn, as we all stared at the light, as told.
"Control your breathing, relax your shoulders, concentrate on your breathing," Naru said, and as he instructed us, my eyes felt heavy and it took all my will power to not fall asleep.
"Tonight, the chair will move. Tomorrow, we will meet in the laboratory." When the curtains were opened again, I was suddenly awoken and aware of my surroundings.
"Well, I guess we're off." Rachel said, as we left.
"Shouldn't you be going back to class?" Ayako asked, looking at us suspiciously and glancing to the principal.
"No. We finished." We both answered and turned to leave.
"One thing." The principal called out and we all paused. "I need to speak to you about whether you two are staying here to continue your studies." I looked to Rachel who nodded, we had both deliberated this and had already come up with an answer.
"Yup! We're looking at colleges now!" The principal smiled and handed us some forms we had to fill out, information leaflets for the colleges and a few other things. "Thank you!" We bowed and left, as soon as we got out of the school, we practically leaped with joy and squealed with joy.
"We're finished with studies!" I giggled, dancing around until we noticed the first years staring at us and aughing.
"Just wait, in two years this will be you!" She said, pointing to the two first years who had approached us earlier.
"Congratulations, Sempais!" They called out and we waved, leaving to celebrate with ice-cream.
Tuesday
When we arrived at the house the next day, we saw that Mai and everyone was already there.
"Whats the plan?" It seemed that yesterday, Mia and John were asked to write their names on paper yesterday, on the door leading to the chair which was 'going to move'. The paper was fine, so the door was wrenched open to show that the chair...had moved!! It looked like someone had thrown it however, I wasn't sure what it meant.
"The ground was sinking. Same as I said before. Watch." Naru said, pointing to the monitor. The chair was shown to move in a way that looked like it was being forced to move. Mai jumped back.
"The poltergeist was caused by someone affected by the hypnosis. Someone affected by stress and one who craved attention." Korona.
"You were trying to impress me, I did some research based on your claims and it was shown that there were no bombings here in the war. Both Miss Hara and my own deductions were clean so the haunting was human caused."
"So it was my fault?" Korona weeped. Rachel patted her on the shoulder.
"I undersand your reasoning," Mai said. When no-one spoke, she continued; "Everyone has a desire to stand out from the crowd, to exel in something, a talent or your personality. In your case, Korona, your spiritual ability." Korona laughed but Ayako wasn't sold.
"What about me being trapped?" She yelled, turning on Naru.
"There was a nail," Naru said, and I snorted. Ayako looked angered.
"What?! So someone did it purposely?" She said, turning to Korona. "And the tape?!"
"Erased." Naru concluded, I glanced to Korona, who looked guilty. It was then decided that we would tell the Principal that the house was haunted, to spare Korona the humiliation.
"I had no idea you could be so sensitive, do you have a girlfriend?" Ayako drawled, leaning on Naru as we headed off.
"Cougar!" Rachel coughed.
"I don't understand your question." Naru droned. Rachel raised her eyebrows.
"I'm saying, I wouldn't mind getting to know you better!"
"Yep, definitely a cougar!" Rachel repeated, running John, "No-one's safe!" She called out, hiding behind his back. John laughed nervously, glancing to Ayako who was advancing no Naru, much to the two other teen girls' displeasure.
"I must decline, I'm too used to looking in the mirror." Naru scoffed, and we all burst out into laughter, and we started to pack up the cameras..again. The case was finally over...again...
"Oh, where you going, Mai?" Rachel called out as she ran off.
"Class!" She replied and we waved and us too, headed our separate ways.
A few days later...
"It's weird not going to the old school house now.." Rachel mumbled as we headed out to meet up with a few of our friends to go shopping when a rumble echoed around us. All at once, all the foundations of the school house collapsed in a deafening thud!
"No way!" Rachel called out, taking a picture and leaving to catch the train before we missed it.
When we got back, we noticed our home phone had a missed call and we rang it back with a speech prepared for the unlucky salesman.
"Hallo?" Rachel said, in her perfected German accent.
"Is this Rachel and Ashleigh?" A familiar voice asked.
"No, this is, Patrick!" I heard a sigh from the other end "Yes, it is, how and why do you have our number?"
"The school." He stated. "I was calling about your payment for your work and I wondered if you wanted a job." We went silent for a few minutes and the tension...was tense...
"Money?"
"Drama?"
"Ghosts?"
"Hell yes! When do we start?!"
