8 - Cuddles
Melody fell asleep in the guest bedroom after a couple more minutes of sobbing. She had a shower then I brushed her hair out of her face and braided it. She put on some of the clothes that I had left here (there was actually a whole suitcase that I had forgotten) and I put her into the spare bed. When I headed back to the living room I heard the shouting.
"What do you know Meg? You're only fifteen!"
"I know just as much as you. I know that you are nowhere near responsible or mature enough to be a parent! And don't get me started on Abbey!"
"Don't bring her into this!"
"All I'm saying is that she's way out of your league. You don't deserve her and you know it!"
"Wow thanks Meg."
"You're welcome asshole. I'm just saying that I know what mum and dad are saying about the whole baby thing and despite how supportive they seem, they're not happy about it."
"You don't think I know all of that? Honestly Meg I thought you would at least help me with them, not take their side." A long silence consumed the house.
"I'm sorry Dan, that was a dick move."
"It was." Was all he said in response. Finally deciding that it was safe to enter I casually walked in. I saw Dan sitting on the large lounge and Meg at the other side of the room watching the Avengers movie. I sat down and placed my head on his chest, he then wrapped his arms around me as he watched the movie and I slowly fell asleep there in his arms.
~~~
I woke up in Dan's bed with his arms wrapped around me. I swear that I didn't fall asleep here... He must've carried me up the stairs, that's quite a nice thought. I rolled over in his arms to face him. He then opened his eyes and looked straight at me.
"Morning babe."
"Morning." I replied. "Hey, did you carry me upstairs last night?"
"Hmm? No I didn't. You woke up when the movie finished and walked up here. Then you fell asleep pretty much as soon as you lay down." He chuckled.
"Oh, how come I don't remember that?'
"I don't know. You sure you didn't drink anything last night?"
"Certain. Speaking of drinking, have you seen Mel?"
"Umm no. If you haven't already discovered, I was in here with you."
"I had better go and check on her." I said as I was about to get up but Dan just tightened his grip on me.
"No, stay here it's too early to go looking for hung-over friends." His room was so dark at all times that you couldn't tell what time it was so I reached an successfully grabbed my phone from the nightstand to check the time.
"Babe, it's ten thirty."
"So? We had a late night. That warrants it still early."
"Okay fine. What time did I even get here last night?"
"I don't think you want to know."
"Why not?"
"Because it would destroy your rebellious and total badass reputation."
"What time was it Dan?"
"About eleven."
"Oh God, the party started at nine thirty, it took about twenty minutes to get here. Melody must've had a shitload of alcohol in what...an hour and ten minutes. She'll have one hell of a hangover. I need to check on her. Dan... Let. Me. Go."
"Fine. Meanie."
I just laughed as I walked out the door to go to the guest bedroom to find Melody. I eventually found her lying in the darkness of the bathroom next to the toilet. De ja vu much?
"Abbey? How much did I drink last night?" She asked rubbing her head. "I've got a really bad headache so whatever your response is, make sure it's quiet. Also, where are we? This definitely not home..."
"Well to begin with, you don't remember anything? At all?"
"Not a thing, well I remember turning up to the party and stuff and getting myself a drink and then... did I do anything stupid last night?" I flashed back to when I read that message from Riley.
"Yeah, you did."
"Oh god who did I sleep with?"
"No one, you were totally antisocial from the moment you stepped foot into that house until we came back here – we're at Dan's by the way. I couldn't take you home that drunk."
"Okay, so what did I do?"
"You texted Riley -"
"I did WHAT? WHAT DID I SAY? Ouch, that was too loud."
"Umm you kinda said that you wanted to get back together with him and arranged to meet him at his house today. You can't do it Mel."
"Oh god... no what do I do? I can't say that I drunk texted him can I? But I don't want to get back with him either. What do I do Abbey?"
"Okay, umm you can go to his house and yell at him but that won't explain what you said last night. Maybe just bail on him, don't even turn up."
"That's mean."
"You asked for my opinion, and my opinion is that he deserves to be left hanging like that. But if you feel bad I guess that you could just tell him that something had come up and that you can't make it."
"Okay, where is my phone by the way?"
"It should have been in the guest room with you."
"Okay." She got up and left for the guest bedroom to get her phone. I then walked back to Dan's room to find him still lying in bed. I crossed my arms in front of my chest and leaned against the door frame.
"What am I ever going to do with you Dan?" I muttered.
"Get back in bed and cuddle more." He said sleepily.
"What if I don't want to?"
"Then you're a meanie." I chuckled and got back under the covers. His arms wrapped around my waist protectively and I could feel his breath stirring my hair.
