Chapter-5
Today was Sunday and hence no classes, I went to Leena's place after breakfast. Shreyas with his family and Jeet was supposed to arrive at her place an hour later. I helped Leena dressing up in a Saree and helped her with her hair while she did the makeup herself. After the hard-work of 50 minutes she was ready.
"You look beautiful darling." I said looking at her reflection in the mirror.
"Thanks but I am nervous. What if the guy is a douche, I will just punch him I am telling you. I don't care if mom dad feel bad." She said in all seriousness and I chuckled at her antics.
"Chill he is not a douche, yes he can be little ignorant but definitely not insensitive." I said and as soon as I said it I bit my tongue.
"How do you know? You are saying as if you met him already. Wait a minute, you have met him, haven't you?" She asked me raising her eyebrows dramatically as realization dawned on her.
I was thinking about how to dodge her question just then the doorbell rang and she started pacing in the room nervously.
"Calm down darling, just be yourself and ask him whatever you want to know about him okay." I said and gave her a flying kiss before leaving the room. Auntie needed help in the kitchen.
I didn't look into the living room but I could hear them greeting each other. I poured the coffee in the mugs and put the sweets and savories in dishes. I placed everything neatly in a tray and was about to take it to living room.
As soon as I entered the room, everyone looked at me expecting the bride to be carrying the tray. Shreya's parents gave a small smile but disappointment was evident on their faces whereas Jeet and Shreyas were both looking at me in shock with their eyes wider than the saucer.
I winked at both of them and Jeet coughed while Shreyas averted his gaze in embarrassment. I kept the tray on the table.
"She is Trisha Talwar, the owner of Trista Dance Classes. Best friend and boss of Leena. She is like a second daughter to us and a sister to Leena." Leena's mom introduced me.
"Come-on Auntie on one side you say I am her sister and on other side you called me her boss. That's not fair, you know she is not just my manager, she is my partner." I said and Auntie held her ears gesturing she was sorry.
"Okay now go call you friend." Auntie said, I nodded at her and smirked at Shreyas and Jeet before leaving.
I quickly climbed the stairs and barged in Leena's room to find a hell nervous Leena.
"Where were you? Why did you leave me alone? I was dying with anticipation." She bombarded me with the questions as soon as she saw me.
"Relax darling. I was just helping auntie. By the way, the guy is really handsome, you will be knocked out. Now lets go they are waiting for you." I said winking at her, she blushed a little but quickly composed herself.
We left the room and came down to the living room. Leena greeted his parents, Jeet and him before his mom asked her to sit close to her.
She was busy talking to Leena, asking her about her work, hobbies and future plans etc. when I noticed Shreyas was busy staring Leena and Leena too was stealing glances at him. Jeet was looking at me and then Leena alternatively, I wasn't sure why but I didn't give much thought to it.
"Mrs. Mehra since these kids have to spend the rest of life together why not we leave them alone to talk and get to know each other." His mom said to Leena's mom and they agreed.
Leena was asked to take Shreyas to her room to talk privately. Meanwhile all the elders were talking to each other, I messaged Jeet on his phone.
[T: What happened? Why were you looking like that at me and Leena?"]
[J: Nothing I was just surprised and shocked at the coincidence that my best friend is here to see your best friend and if it works for them then we will be friends forever."]
[T: Yep it definitely is a great coincidence but we will still be friends forever, we don't need them to say yes for it. If they don't feel compatible and say no to each other that doesn't mean we cant be friends too.]
[J: You are right anyways we met each other way before we met them. So what we lost touch you still will be that cute kitty whose hair I can pull anytime.]
[T: Mr Jeet Khurana, you can do anything but not pull my hair. I will kill you if you touch my hair now. I am no more the 12 year old weak girl now.]
[J: You sure are not 12 but are you sure I can do anything ;)]
[T: Get Lost you Pervert]
[J: Hawww I didn't say anything which makes you call me pervert. I am such an innocent man and you woman are defaming me.]
[T: Yeah yeah you and innocence never suit each other.]
[J: That's not fair. Anyways I want to hear what those two are talking.]
[T: Good idea, okay you ask Auntie about the terrace saying you need to make a call and I will take you upstairs.]
I kept my phone aside and within thirty seconds I heard Jeet asking Leena's mom about terrace.
"Beta you can take the stairs and then towards the right is the door to the balcony you can use it to make your call. Trisha can show you. Trisha please show him the balcony." Auntie said and looked at me.
"Sure Auntie. Please follow me." I looked at Jeet and said.
I climbed the stairs with Jeet following me. As soon as we reached the first floor where Leena's room was I took Jeet to the balcony to the study attached to Leena's room. Balconies to the study and her room are attached so we jumped into the balcony of her room and luckily the door to her room was open. We hid ourselves behind the door to hear their conversation.
"So you can work from Chandigarh too after marriage I am not a chauvinist and you can do whatever you like." Shreyas was saying.
"That's good because I hate chauvinists. But just to let you know I and Trisha are feminists." Leena said.
"I know that. But why are you adding her in everything you tell me, I am here to meet you as my prospective bride not her." Shreyas said little irritated.
"Umm I am sorry I didn't mean it that way but we have done most things together and are very much alike. We have common friends and it's the first time I am meeting someone out of work who is not a friend so I am just introducing her too along with me because she is irreplaceable in my life." She said and my heart swelled up with pride and eyes with tears.
"I get that but I hope you can create some teeny weeny place for others too like me. And as for friends I can be your friend too doesn't matter if this matrimony thing work out or not. It might sound weird but I liked you the moment I saw you and its not because you are beautiful, I mean you are beautiful but I like you because of the innocence and golden heart that you carry." He said and I could imagine Leena blushing.
"How do you know if I carry a golden heart just by looking at me?" She asked.
"Not by looking at you only, the way you trust your friend, the way you trying to tell me that she is irreplaceable irrespective of the fact that I can be jealous of her that you give your friend more importance then your to be husband." He said and I pursed my lips to stop myself from laughing.
"He is so doomed by your friend. He is going to say yes." Jeet whispered in my ear from behind.
I nodded in agreement and signaled him to keep quiet.
"To-be husband? Who said you are? I haven't said yes yet." She said and I burst out laughing, I couldn't control anymore.
Jeet was trying to shut me up by placing his hand on my mouth when they both entered the balcony and glared at us for listening to their private conversation.
Leena's expression were confused since she couldn't understand why I am letting Jeet place his hand on my mouth and why my hand was on his hand.
"What the hell you two are doing here?" Shreyas asked crossing his arms on his chest.
"Sorry we just wanted to listen to you guys to tease you later." Jeet replied while I was still struggling to control my laughter.
"Trish what is happening? You didn't tell me you knew them." Leena asked glaring at me.
"Sorry darling, Jeet is an old childhood friend from Chandigarh, I told you no Mom's friend and his son came three days back when you came to meet me and crib about this arranged marriage thingy." I said controlling my laughter and Leena was now all red due to embarrassment.
"Sorry I kept it from both of you that I know both of you. I just wanted it to be neutral for you guys and not influenced by my or anyone else's views." I said holding my ears saying sorry.
"Wow and why the hell were you laughing?" Shreyas asked.
"Well because I know my best friend more then she knows herself and her question made me laugh. You both are so whipped by each other and still pretending indifferent." I said looking at both of them and they blushed avoiding looking at each other.
"Look at you two all blushing. Its going to be great, Leena welcome to the family." Jeet said and hugged both of them together.
"Oye not fair, you people forgot me." I said making a puppy face.
"Sorry you are still not a part of family like Leena." Jeet teased me and I smacked his shoulder.
We all laughed and just then the room door opened. Leena's mom came in and was surprised to see me and Jeet there.
"Sorry Auntie this curious cat couldn't control and he too followed me here after his call." I said about myself making a puppy face and pointing at Jeet.
Auntie smiled knowing me and my antics. She turned to Leena and Shreyas.
"Kids do you still need some more time to talk?" Auntie asked.
"No Auntie I don't think I need to ask her anything else." Shreyas said.
"Auntie they have asked whatever they needed to but I still need to approve Shreyas. Remember Leena will not marry if I don't approve." I said looking at Shreyas who was not sweating in nervousness.
Auntie didn't like what I said but didn't say anything. She looked at Leena who gave her the look that assured her she need not to worry.
As Auntie left the room, I gestured Shreyas to have a seat in the room. He nervously walked and sat on the chair in front of me while Leena sat beside me on her bed and Jeet sat on the other side of me with his phone in his hand making a video of Shreyas all nervous.
"So Mr. Shreyas Kapoor, you want to marry my best friend?" I asked him in all seriousness.
"Y..yess" He answered hesitantly.
"And why should she say yes to you?" I asked like I am interviewing him for job. Leena nudged me with her elbow on my side knowing I am joking.
"Because... because I like her and I promise to take care of her for the lifetime, I will never judge her and will try my best that she never cries. I will treat her parents and friends as mine. I will give her all the love and respect in the world." He said without stammering and with confidence.
"Okay and why should I approve you?" I asked staring at him seriously.
"Umm because you know me a little more then all the other strangers who will come after me to meet her. So agreeing to someone little known is better then agreeing to someone completely strange." He said in all seriousness looking at me with hope in his eyes and I smiled at his genuineness.
"Well done my boy, you won my darling and my heart together." I said hugging him.
"Thanks but I only want her heart, sorry if it offends you." He said hugging me back and I can feel he is looking at Leena.
I pulled apart from the hug and smiled at him.
"That's even better, I don't want to be her love rival, she is fierce." I said jokingly and Leena smacked my head.
"We should go downstairs, Mom must be worried. She was so tensed the way you said I wont marry." Leena said and we all nodded in agreement.
We climbed down the stairs and entered the living room together. As soon as we entered all four elders were looking at us expectantly.
Shreyas took a seat close to his parents, Jeet next to Shreyas. I sat down where I was sitting earlier and Leena was about to sit close to me when I stopped her.
"Come on darling, now you have a new place to sit. Go sit close to your to-be husband." I said and signaled her to sit close to Shreyas.
Both set of parents were elated with my announcement and Jeet quickly got up from his seat to make space for Leena.
"Congratulations Mr. Kapoor, Congrats Bhabhiji." Leena's Dad said as he hugged Shreyas's dad.
"Congratulations to you too Mr. Mehra." Shreyas's dad replied.
I picked up the dish filled with sweets from the table and asked Leena and Shreyas to feed each other. Leena's mom looked at me adoringly.
Once they both fed each other everyone filled their mouths with sweets. Soon the aunties started planning about the wedding and fixing engagement and wedding date.
I politely took leave since I have scheduled meeting with Jeet and Shreyas at the studio and before that I have to finish some other chores.
Leena and her mom insisted that I have lunch with them but I wanted them to take this time to know each other's family better since I know how distracted they can be with my presence.
