Chapter 3- Uno

It turns out, the boy was okay.

His mother had come in and had gotten him to breathe again after a few minutes of wheezing, but they did have to change his sheets. There was blood on them.

Bakugo and Miss Midoriya had helped a shaking Izuku get out of the bed, and then Bakugo stood there with the green haired boy leaning on him for support. The boy talked to them as if nothing had happened. And so did Bakugo.

"So you're training to be a hero just like Kacchan?" The boy asked with excited green eyes.

"Uh... Yeah. I am."

"Man! I have two future heroes standing in MY bedroom! It's surreal! People won't believe me when I say that two of the greatest heroes of all time stood in my bedroom!" He gushed.

"Wow, hey!" Kirishima waved his arms rapidly. "I wouldn't go that far! This is only our first year after all, anything could happen!"

Izuku slowly leaned his weigh off of Bakugo and stood fine on his own, and everyone seemed to look at this with surprise. "Of course, but I like to think the best of things! I can tell you both are going to be great heroes." He smiled. "Besides, I like to think the best of things. Positivity is the best medicine! Or at least I think so."

Kirishima looked over Midoriya's shoulder to see the small green haired women smiling fondly, and maybe a little sadly.

Kirishima grinned and looked back at the boy, holding a fist out. "I agree."

Midoriya beamed and bumped his fist against Kirishima's.

~~~
The two made their way to the living room, Kirishima not knowing Midoriya could even leave his room.
"No, I can leave, It's just best if I sleep somewhere with low stimulus. Sometimes waking up and seeing to much to suddenly can make me feel sick, but it's not that bad." He shrugged. "Better safe than sorry, is what my mom says."
They had ended up pulling out some board games and lazily playing while chatting... until they got to Uno.
Now, Uno is a fun game, but not when you play with Katsuki Bakugo.
Bakugo had handled monopoly like a champ after going to jail 4 times in the single game (He had taken a deep breath and asked to be done playing before they ended), but Uno was on a whole different level.
Midoriya and Kirishima were enjoying themselves... were. Until they discovered ganging up on Bakugo.
"Reverse back to Midoriya."
"Skip Bakugo."
"Draw two Bakugo."
And even through that, Bakugo had gotten down to one card.
"Hah, suck it." He said waving his one card around, and Kirishima smiled while he played his next turn.
Midoriya chuckled and then slappped a hand over his mouth laughing and Kirishima doubled over with laughter.
"What? What are you laughing at?!" Bakugo snapped with pure confusion.
"You...You didn't say... uno Kacchan!" Midoriya wheezed.
"Draw two!"Kirishima gasped out as he continued laughing.
"SON OF A-" He screamed in rage as he angrily grabbed two cards.
They continued and Bakugo got down to one card again, and this time said uno.
Right before Bakugo's turn, Kirishima smacked down a draw four, making Bakugo produce an unholy screaming noise.
"I'M NEVER TALKING TO YOU AGAIN YOU SHIT HEAD!" He screamed in rage.
"KATSUKI BAKUGO LANGUAGE!" Miss Midoriya shouted from the kitchen, and Bakugo bowed his head and drew the cards.
"What color?" Midoriya asked.
"Hmmm... red."
"ahhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YOU TIT! YOU TIT! YOU LITERAL TIT I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!" He yelled as he hurled his Uno cards at Kirishima's face, showing a hand full of only yellow and blue, even after the draw four.
This made Kirishima and Midoriya laugh even harder, and this time Izuku didn't start coughing.
Bakugo stood up, little explosions crackling in his hands, threatening the laughing boys.
If Kirishima was being honest, this was probably the most fun he'd had in years. Sitting there playing games with Bakugo and the green haired boy he'd just met. He felt like... he fit in.
And this is where he wanted to be.
~~~

The three boys made it a weekly tradition to play board games together at Midoriyas, but they often times hung out other times during the week too. Midoriya taking a liking to Kirishima and all. Bakugo would never admit it, but he enjoyed spending time with both of them too.

Midoriya being the ray of sunshine he had always been despite his... circumstances.

And Kirishima just being a lovable dumbass.

They both contrasted his explosive personality so well it was crazy that they even got along.

One day, the topic pof quirks came up again, as it often did with Midoriya.

Bakugo was sitting on the floor leaning against the bed, Midoriya sitting cross legged on the bed, and Kirishima laying back on the bed.

"Hey Midoriya... do you have a quirk?" The red haired boy had asked one day.

"Me?" Midoriya said pointing to himself. "Yeah, I do, but... um..."

"You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to, Deku. It's not like he needs to know." Bakugo said with his eyes closed.

"Oh jeez, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-" Kirishima said propping himself on his elbows, nervous he'd made a mistake.

"Don't worry about it! Kacchan makes it out to be a bigger thing than it is. I don't mind talking about it with you... I trust you Kirishima!"

"Thanks bro!" Kirishima smiled.

"I... Do have a quirk, but... It's kind of complicated. To put it simply, it makes me sick. My body can't handle the quirk with in itself, so it's basically destroying itself and deteriorating with the quirk, trying to get rid of it. It thinks it's some sort of disease so it's attacking it, basically. But quirks are generally a part of the being and can't be separated. So my body is destroying itself without even knowing." He didn't sound sad while saying it, but accepting of it. Like this was just how it is. Kirishima saw Bakugo cringe.

"Wait... So there isn't a cure?" The red boys eyes fell sad as he looked at the green haired boy with a small smiled on his lips.

"Not yet... But I'm hopeful they'll find one soon! If not for me, someone else who deals with this condition. I'd never want anyone to have to give up their to being sick." He bows his head and speaks softly.

There was a lingering question Kirishima didn't dare to ask. One he almost already knew the answer to...

Izuku Midoriya was dying, and there was no cure.
