Levitating
MAI FELT LIKE SHE WAS IN A DREAM. In the back of her head, she knew it would be a brief moment two people would share and nothing would come out of it, but she didn't know why but she felt a real connection to the person she had just met. They had talked briefly in the elevator and he made her quickly comfortable in this unusual situation. They had both accepted the complimentary dinner provided by the manager of the hotel to accommodate for the elevator situation.
Minutes soon turned into hours and Mai felt herself getting drawn further into Peter's stories. He had such a way to tell a story, to get people immersed into stories always wanting to know more. Normally Mai would be on her guard with this kind of person but in this situation and with the alcohol flowing in her veins she didn't care anymore, she wanted to be entertained.
And so she did as Peter continued his story of how when he was 4 years old he fought with a little boy at a playground for a toy and both their mom had forced them to play together and they became inseparable since then. Mai looked at Peter's face as he recounted his story. He had brown eyes that sparkled as he talked quickly, moving his hands in every direction trying to recreate the situation. His buzzcut brought out his sharp jawline and Mai couldn't help but look at his smile as he talked.
She heard her name many times before scrunching her eyebrows to get out of her focus. As she recognized what was going on she felt her face heat up in embarrassment, he had caught her staring at him.
He cleared his throat and with a smirk, he added, "It feels like I'm the only one who is talking. I wanna learn more about you. Do you have any interesting stories?"
Mai tried to find any stories but the ones that came up weren't as interesting as Peter's stories. "I'm sorry, my stories aren't that extraordinary. I'm what you can call a goody two shoes," Mai's face fell feeling embarrassed.
Peter smiled, " You shouldn't be embarrassed by that. Anyway, goody two shoes are easier to annoy and have fun with. It's really cute to see someone getting out of their comfort zone. Tell me the most delinquent thing you did?"
Mai giggled, "I think I was 15 and my best friend, Maria, was very persistent and wanted me to listen to her boyfriend's show. It was near downtown and I had a curfew so technically I couldn't go," Peter started leaning towards wanting to hear the rest of her story. "Me being in my rebellious stage, I went anyway. I had made my mind I would go. So I snuck out of my room on the second floor and ran as fast as I could to the nearest metro station. I had never been on public transport during the night, but I felt like I could do anything. I arrived there safely and the concert was amazing, I even got to meet the members." She smiled fondly at this memory.
Seeing Mai smile, Peter couldn't but feeling uncomfortable and curious, "It looked like you liked it, did you by chance had any crush on one of them?" Mai laughed but still felt heat in her cheeks.
"I mean like any young girl, of course, I did. I don't remember his name or what he looks like but he could play the hell of a guitar." A frown appeared on Peter's face as he added, "You should see me play the guitar, you'd forget about that guy in an instant. I'm quite an expert with my fingers if you know what I mean." Mai choked on her sip of wine as she understood him and made a complete mess of herself. She had spat wine and it was present on the table and herself. She started cleaning the table as Peter stared at her.
He quickly took his napkin and wiped the wine that was still on Mai's face. He approached her slowly and she could feel his hot breath on her face. She felt nervous and her heart started to beat faster. She hoped he couldn't be able to hear it.
They both heard a voice that made them aware of their position and the very public place they were. The waiter cleared his throat telling them that they had to close the restaurant and politely asked them to leave, looking at them with a discouraged air and sighed loudly. Mai and Peter quickly looked at each other and quietly giggled as the waiter left with their plates.
They both got up and Mai looked at the time and realized it was too late to catch public transport, she would have to call a cab. She looked at Peter to see he was already looking at her. Suddenly his face light up and she tilted her head curious about his change of demeanor.
He leaned close to her and whispered in her ears. She felt goosebumps as he proposed to her to look at the employee's working rooms. She quickly nodded always wondering what was the employees' part of hotels. They silently walked into a room and Peter showed Mai many rooms before leading her towards the main suite. He leads her in and she was amazed by the luxury some people could have access to. They both exited the suite and the atmosphere had calmed out and Mai felt way soberer than at dinner.
Peter locked the door and turned around to see Mai looking at him. They both stared at each other not wanting their moment to end. Peter scratched his head and said, "Let's go it's getting late. I'll help you get a taxi."
Mai didn't move as Peter walked past her. To be honest she didn't want this moment to end and it seemed like it was the same with him. She wasn't a brave person and she was trying to come to terms with that. At this moment, she felt an urge to enjoy this moment to the max, she doubted she would experience something like that ever again. So she turned around and tried to gather her courage.
"What if I don't want this night to end right now?" she said in a low voice. Peter turned around with raised eyebrows. "I'm sorry I didn't understand."
She bit her lips fidgeted with her hair as he approached her. He stopped when his face was close to Mai's. He was close enough that she would be able to kiss, and damn she wanted to, badly. He looked at her directly in her eyes and they seemed full of lust.
She gathered her courage and with a smirk repeated "What if I don't want this night to end right now". A smirk etched onto his face and he answered quietly so only the two of them would hear, "Let's make this night, one that lasts forever."
She smiled and did something brave, she closed up the distance between the two of them and kissed him. It was slow at first, but it quickly grew heated. While catching their breath they both looked at each other and understood each other.
He took out the hotel's key and opened the door letting Mai inside. He said, "Ever since you told me your concert story, I've wanted to know how it ended." as he closed the door behind them.
----
Mai tried to open her eyes but she was met with a bright light. She closed her eyes and turned around and snuggled in the blanket. With her eyes closed, she hugged the pillow and she frowned as it felt different than her pillow. Why would her pillow be different? She smelled it and it smelled like fresh lavender. She put the pieces together and she sat up quickly. She looked around and saw that she was in a room she didn't know.
She felt a sharp pain in her head as she looked around. She was walking around the room and saw her clothes on the chair. She first felt a wave of shame as she remembered what happened last night. As she replayed what happened she heard the voice of her friend Sami hyping her up and telling her not to be ashamed of what she did because she was an independent woman. She then looked at her phone and saw many messages left from her friends wondering where she was. She quickly answered and started getting dressed.
She quickly dressed up and left the hotel trying to not be seen. As she left she didn't see the guy she slept with so she guessed he left early in the morning while she slept.
Mai sighed as she exited the hotel and called a cab to take her to her apartment so she could freshen up before she had to go to work. She was lucky, as today she had a day in the field and it started later than usual.
